My husband and I enjoy the pools late in the day, 6:30-7:00 and go nearly every day to the Charlotte pool. We love the evenings when there are no people and it is super quiet, it's heavenly. Last night was a disturbing experience. We went as usual and a single man was there, to add as a description not a profile, he was heavily tattooed from his head to his toes. Not something you usually see here. Don't start with a possible personal attack over the mention of tattoos, my grandkids and many family members have tattoos. He was drinking from a glass container a brown liquid and SMOKING!! AT THE POOL!! When we arrived he acknowledged us, about 10 min later on his cell phone started playing Leonard Skinner at a very loud volume so he could hear while in the water. The smoking was bad enough but not being a country rock fan we left after less than 30 minutes. I assume he does not live her, he was about 30-40 years old. What is the protocol for something like this? We left primarily because I was uncomfortable and the SMOKING!! The pools and golf are about all we do. Any suggestions?

Glass is not allowed at the pool nor is smoking. You should have made the call.

Pool usage started weeks ago. It was posted in the Newspaper and weekly Recreation news.

you go to the nearest rec center to complain. they are responsible for patrolling the pools nearest to them.

the rec newspaper carries all the phone numbers of all rec centers. You can call the nearest one from your pool from your cell phone to complain

To be honest your tattoo statement wasn’t the issue with your analogy. The part I assume he does not live here... Based on the current conditions here in TV anyone can basically live or rent here. Adult family members are living with parents, owners are renting and no one is watching. Family of owners move right outside of the villages and come in on a guest pass, 30 days at a time. Summer is the worst, snowbirds are using Airbnb with daily rates less than Hotel prices, $65 a night. I also see rooms advertised for rent for less. The Villages themself sell to 20 percent younger than 55. It’s too big to control and it’s no longer a 55 plus community. It’s all about the almighty dollar. The more that come the more The Villages and owners make.
Someone needs to rewrite the rule book and enforce it. Where are the trolls?

352-674-1800 Give them a call and they will help you out. Smoking is what really gave him away. Anyone who lives here knows better. At least he had a decent choice in his music. Playing music at the pool is not worth the trouble. I asked the first dozen people who came through the gate if they liked what was on and was the volume OK. Everyone was fine with the way things were and liked it. The first person I missed put on his choice and played it way louder than my selection. Lesson learned. Rules are there for a reason. I turned my music off and apologized and that's the end of that.
We had a lot of people from The Quater's Apartment's at The Southside Pool because of the beautiful Hot Tub. We knew that's where they were from because they told us. I never called because I didn't go there to police the pool. I let somebody else handle it. They were tripping over one another to be the hero and get the call in first. Ah, The Villages! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

The rule book says that people who live outside of The Villages, but within the tri-county area, are not allowed to have a guest pass, unless they are a child or grandchild of a Villages resident.

Very few people who call in are trying to be the "hero" as you call them. That is your opinion. Most are just trying to keep the rule breakers from taking over. It's quite simple.

The pool rules are enfoced by the rec center manager. But, each manager has several pools and the rec center activities to monitor. So, I think most of them would appreciate a phone call so they can take care of a specific problem.

Call it and find out. It's in my phone under pool trouble and I don't own a pool you can even call home and ask my wife. (CharlieDaniels) I used it to report a Bee Hive at the pool and problems with the lights coming on because that pool is open until very late.
Do you recognize the number from your extensive list of helpful numbers? :1rotfl: Lemme know what you find out boss.

Call neighborhood watch. Someone should check is guest pass (if he has one) and remind him no smoking and no glass containers. There is a total disregard for these pools and who uses them. They have monitors at the Colony Pool and require mask but no one does this at the other pools.

This is not about being a hero.....the more active we are in taking care of the use of our stuff the better this place will be for all of us. If we take responsibility there might be less abuse and the trolls in the golf cart may find less to report. Maybe it's generational but it seems people only get their undies in a wad when it directly impacts them, if it impacts someone else they turn their back and walk away. Having phone numbers available and using them helps us all.

The correct person to call is the rec manager on duty. It is their job to enforce the rules.

Every time I’ve been checked for ID at pool where there was no rec center was by neighborhood watch. Never seen rec center person checking id’s other than at rec center where they work.

Who do you call at 8.45 PM? The recreation centers are closing up just about at 8.30 on our side of town.

Where you posters with the /// the people who never moved so fast before the same ones who raced for their phones to call in? It's not my opinion it is a fact that they tried to beat the other swimmers to the punch. You probably weren't there. I typed what I observed and that's that.
Post #18 has many good points. At a different time of the day if nobody was there to call I probably would have. I would have used the number I posted before.

The rec centers are open until 9 PM, and the pools that are patrolled by the rec center managers are not open after the rec center closes. However, on holidays, Community Watch may be responsible for closing the pools.

Make the call to TV and turn him in. However, doubtful you would reach someone that late in the day. Call the next morning to report it.

Nuck, kind of a snarky response from you,,,,,out of character.
You know something Bogie you’re correct. You didn’t deserve that but the way I took it is what the hell is the number for? The thread is about help at the pool. I wouldn’t give the number to Papa Johns. Anyway I apologize. We’re been good for years and I would like to keep it like that.
I’ve been involved in two situations where we stood up for people where the strong were preying on the weak. I’m living here to be peaceful and that’s what I’m going to be. Others questioning my involvement in keeping things up to snuff around here don’t have a clue. We both do our thing and don’t talk about it. That’s the thrill of being a good member of a community. I’m not in charge of solving every conflict.
Sorry again Bogie.

Everyone in my circle has had a day that was close to anger and tears. I lashed out at two people I don't know at all on Facebook. We have been reading and hearing things that are meant to make us upset and we are upset.
Let's not let this nasty time in our lives defeat all of us. I apologize for anything nasty I said or did. I have no excuse other than being old and out of patience.

Sometimes it means that somone wrote a post, then tried to edit it, but decided to delete it instead. I don't think you can actually delete a post, so the next best thing is to type "///" because you need at least 3 charactors in the post. I think???

UGH! Because we are not secure here and anybody can get in. Where I lived before you had a “pod” and only could get in that way and only residents had them. So anybody can drive in here and use the pools or recreation centers. Nobody asks for the ID we have. I always carry mine and not once was I asked. And he could be visiting or a renter. Very disappointed with this! I should have looked harder before moving here. I didn’t know people rent out so much. That is why you see so many people building pools! It’s safer and cleaner. I am going to start looking for recommendations for pool. Sorry for your bad experience. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know about the outdoor facilities, but it is not true that anyone can drive in and use the rec center buildings. They do a pretty good job of checking IDs in the buildings. Apparently, there needs to be better enforcement, especially at the pools. I think the rec center managers are reluctant to tell people to get out of the pool to checks their ID. But, there are better ways to enforce the rules, like signing in or scanning your own ID card at the pool.

Yes that is sad. Guess we should have researched better. I am only 57 and already don’t want to retire here! I didn’t realize so many people would rent their homes. So you never know who is a real resident and who isn’t. I still work so who knows. But not happy about the pools. Time to build my own. I see why so many put there own pools in. And the gates are a joke you don’t need a card, you drive up and the gates open. No pod to scan at the pool so anybody can use our pools. UGH

You don't want to retire here yet, you are going to build your own pool. Gates are not a joke, doing exactly what they were meant to do.
Mixed signals, now is a good time to sell..............
