THE DEBATE: WE'RE ONLY BAD BECAUSE WE TEST MORE - IS AN INTERESTING - BUT - FAULTY ON ALL SIDES.

MY OPINION: THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY COUNTS IS HOW MANY DEATHS / MILLION BY COUNTRY. I CALCULATED IT - BASED ON THE PAST 7 DAYS DATA - FOR EVERY COUNTRY - AND PROJECTED IT BASED ON THEIR POPULATION TOTAL. ITS ALL IN THE ATTACHED FILE.

HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS: WE'RE #14 AS A COUNTRY ON A PER MILLION BASIS.
HERE'S THE BAD NEWS: WE #2 IN PROJECTED ANNUAL DEATHS (ONLY BRAZIL BEATS US); AND WE'RE VERY BAD VERSUS OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRIES.

A = AVG DEATHS PER DAY - PAST WEEK
B = # DEATHS - PAST WEEK
C = DEATHS PER MILLION PEOPLE - ANNUALLY
D = TOTAL COUNTRY POPULATION - MILLIONS
E = PROJECTED NUMBER DEATHS - NEXT 12 MONTHS - AT PAST WEEK RATE

DATA THROUGH JULY 25
SOURCE: OURWORLDINDATA.ORG

NOTE: ON PAST WEEK RATE - US WILL HAVE 326,759 DEATHS IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS - BASED ON THE PAST 7 DAY RATE. SCARY?

Your tabulation is informative. Regarding the future, unfortunately virus projections have been all over the place from zero to about 2,000,000 deaths in the US. It was supposed to taper off in the Summer but is increasing instead. Nobody knows what will happen and even whether masks will help enough to stem the increase.
