Our mail today contained a letter from "The Millers" using Covid as an excuse to beg for money for their religious dreams.
Are they really that desperate?
Raising money to find a cure/vaccine for the virus, okay, but religion? Have some class, people.

Just throw it out and wash your hands from touching it in the first place. I believe you should select which charity you support, not other people for you.

No idea - that is the "return" name on the envelope.
I didn't want to give out their full address because it's just the principle of their actions that annoys me.

That would definitely be shedder bound if I got it. Hard to keep your address off mailing lists these days no matter how hard you try.

Just another scam.
Just a change from the Nigerian Prince's trying to get $10,000,000 out of the country with your help.
Tell them they are in your prayers!

Please throw it away and move on. Don't allow these type of thigs to enter your life by becoming annoyed.

I don't know about this Miller and the mentioned church but my wife volunteered at a church at our previous home. They had a food pantry and a clothes closet for needy people. They obtained food donations from various grocery stores and also distributed food from the federal ag department. The food had to be picked up from the donator's locations and it required a 80 mile round trip drive to get the federal food allotment. The church had an old delivery truck to do the hauling but it eventually broke down and the church didn't have the money to replace it. They had to do a fund raiser for money to repair or replace the truck. The director of the food and clothing assistance group also received a small salary. She was responsible for recruiting/training volunteers for the work and scheduling, the feds required monthly reports on who received the federal food and other administrative functions. Computers and software were required to maintain the data to generate the required reports for the feds, state and church leadership, this also cost money. This effort helped a lot of truly deserving people and unfortunately those that were scamming the system but it all cost money.

Yes churches are hurting. When people can’t attend services in person donations go down. But they don’t solicit non parishioners like that. If they are looking for money specifically to help those in need then they might reach out beyond their boundaries but thats usually through general news feeds like the newspaper.

Why did you waste 5 minutes of your life even reading junk mail?

Gofundme - what a brilliant idea. Wish I had thought of it. There is no doubt there are scammers that use it but there are others that found ways to capitalize on it. I know of one person who, in my opinion, makes a living on it. He sets it up for many things. "My car broke down, I can't afford to get it fix and I can't get to work" He sets it up for $1,500 or so. "I hurt myself and the medical bills are (whatever). Please help". Whenever he needs money for something this is his way of getting it. Some might call that scamming I call it taking advantage of the system and others. It's like doctors that take advantage of Medicare. "Oh yes you have a problem but I want you to go home take a few pills and come back next week and then we'll take care of it". That way we can bill for 2 visits instead of one. That happened to me twice in the past 6 months. In both cases I got the problem taken care of the next day by a different doctor (abscess) and dentist (tooth extraction). Me, I wouldn't give him a dime to a Gofundme account. I'm of the opinion they've been too corrupted. Me, I'd rather donate to the source, not an in-between. For instance, food to a shelter and money directly to a hospital like Childrens' hospitals.

May I ask who pulled your tooth and what did they charge? I need a tooth pulled, called a dentist in Ocala and they want almost $500.00, that seems a bit excessive.

A Go Fund me page, set up by my friends in the Villages.... allowed me to spend the remaining time with my daughter, in the last months of her life. For that I will always be thankful... I did not ask for this generous offer, nor was it a scam. Without those kind people, it would have been even harder to deal with the loss of my only child than it already is.

Agree - GoFundMe's are usually a scam and I would NEVER donate to one.

I have always known Jesus' last name, but it took me awhile to realize his parents' names were Joseph and Mary Christ.

You don’t have to use them , but many are brought to our attention by media, churches and other social agendas, the well publicized fraud of a veteran caused a lot of bad publicity but go fund me paid every donor the money back . I have found some good people who needed some help through different publicity including a small town policeman and a local nurse . I think you can get more bang for your buck then giving to a church which I also do

I am curious why you titled this post "begging letter from jesus" when the return address said "Millers"
Did Jesus sign the letter?
Perhaps you could post the actual letter so we can determine who is scamming whom.

I find it no more offensive than TV evangelists telling their congregations to donate heavily because Papa Preacher needs a new jet airplane.

One of my all time favorites was when, I may be wrong, Oral Roberts said that God was going to take him to heaven very soon unless he was able to raise a certain amount of money in a short time period. I think his son was later caught living like a rock star...
