Anyone know what was behind the closing of Pauly's Pizza on 42? Drove to it tonight and it was closed. Always seemed to be doing well whenever we were there which was quite often. Sure hope All of the Pauly's haven't closed.

I heard it was a rent increase by the Villages, since the new VA is opening soon.

I drove by and looked in the windows. The tables and chairs are still there. I asked one of the cashiers at Publix and they said that they were remodeling.

But by the time I get to SS and get the pizza and get home , it is cold and half eaten. At the Mulberry Pauly's I can make it home before I get tempted to take a bite.

It's closed and most likely will not reopen. SS store is now delivering.

By the way, the rumor about a rent increase causing the closing is just that, a rumor!

I guess I got the wrong info. I called the number and was connected to the SS Pauleys. Sorry.

MY latest rumor is that they did not pay their rent and got the heave-ho. Apparently these are separate franchises and stand on their own.

Too bad. I guess I have to go back to Snappy's for my quarterly pizza. They deliver and I can get two mediums so I can get one my way and one the missus's way. But they got rid of the 2 mediums for $13 on Tuesday so it will probably cost as much as Pauley's large with the coupon.

Always something!!

If Pauly's was really the worst pizza you've ever had then you must not have tried too many. I'm not saying it is the best but a decent representation of NY style. I said 'decent' - don't shoot me.

We went to Paul's all the time. I am going to miss them. The piazza at Buffalo Ridge I thought was terrible. Haven't had the pizza at SS in a long time, but I do remember they were very good. Guess that is where I will be going now if I want pizza. Was told that Little Joey's pizza is very good. Will have to give it a try. Still miss the good pizza from NY.

Totally agree. We've been to all 3 Pauly's andthe Palm Ridge one is by far the worst; we were quite surprised at the difference from the SS place (which is way better). Not much on decor... but good pizza.

I agree ! I think they have the worst pizza. It's thin cardboard & they hardly put anything on it & it's expensive. We need a good place for pizza around here. It's the only thing we are missing.

I'll have to give that a try.

I've only been to the Pauly's in SS. Kind of enjoy the atmosphere.

I agree. Other menu items very good also.

BTW, we find their pizza travels well. We usually plan to order enough so we can take some home.

Pauly is John Rohan's brother. You see John in the SS store often for lunch and yes, there is quite a difference in the pizza at all three (now two) locations. At one time they owned Pauly's Wine & Spirits (on CR466) and the Palm Ridge Shopping Plaza on CR 101 (Pauly's #3). They may have sold the plaza by now.

PS: There is no "e" in Pauly's.

Side note about the price at Pauly's. If you buy the athletic card that students are selling at the High School, you can go into Pauly's and get a large one item and garlic knots less than $13. Great deals on that card. The card cost $10 but you can even get $5 of your bill of $25 or more at Gator's Dockside. Many good deals can be found on the card and this is where the sports programs earn a lot of their money. You save and the school gains, great deal all around!!!!:beer3:
