On Tuesday, I received an email from Etsy telling me that they received a request to change the email associated with my account. If I had not made the request, I needed to contact them. Within an hour of the time stamp on their email, I tried to contact them. I needed to sign into my account but they had already changed my email and locked me out of my own account. I have sent three emails with no response. I called and got a rep who took the info and said she'd forward it on. I asked if I could close the account, but to protect my info, she didn't have that access. So a crook could easily get into my account but no one honest can. I found a forum of Etsy users and it appears this has been an ongoing problem with the website and they do not respond to efforts to contact them. If or when this is resolved, I'll close my account.

IMO it best not respond through email with all the scams out there. I would of contacted them separately. When you respond to emails if it’s scammer the.y have trojan’s or phishing scheme that can plant virus looking for financial accounts they can infiltrate. NEVER let them take over you’re computer they will download you’re hard drive and steal you’re identity, sell you’re identity, try to get into you’re counts transactions y9u done online, or open accounts in you’re name all from history stored in you’re computer. Once this has happened you have no choice to take hard drive and memory sticks out destroy them and throw rest away.

All of my contact with Etsy has been via emails directly through their website. They even have a form to fill out if an account is hacked. It’s obvious they know this is a problem since they now offer two-step verification. Not very helpful to me since I haven’t bought from them for at least two years.

That’s terrible. How do you destroy a hard drive? I have some that were taken out of old computers still around.

Take them apart and get the metal disc out and smack them with hammer.

That’s terrible. How do you destroy a hard drive? I have some that were taken out of old computers still around. I just put a drill through it once or twice. You can take them apart but most require special screwdrivers (torx or star or whatever).

Issue finally resolved. The account has been changed back to my email with new password. Next, I will close the account. Interesting that you are able to track when and where you last accessed the account. On August 11, log in was made twice from Virginia and once from Nairobi, Kenya. Fortunately, the credit card I used back in 2015 has expired and has a new security code. The bank notifies me if it has been used. Even though Etsy is a great resource for unique hand-made items, it is obviously not secure. Too bad for the small entrepreneurs who sell their products there.
