Did anyone else hear there was a big shakeup at Cane Garden restaurant last Tues or Wed? Several staff already working at other venues such as Palmer CC, Darrell's, First Watch on 466A. We really haven't been dining out since COVID.

It’s my understanding that Cane a Garden is not what it use to be. New ownership...several of the long time veteran employees were not brought back after the initial pandemic closure. Yes those employees have been hired elsewhere. Cane use to be our favorite go to for eats & drinks. I’ve heard so much negative that I honestly have no desire to go there.

We are not supporting restaurants until this pandemic is over period. Tried once in Sumter landing and again in Brownwood clientele seems to take this illness very casual we are staying clear.

I am with you on this - wish Mallory kept curbside, loved their pizza, won't even go in there for pickup and put up with people with no mask or observing social distancing.
Waiting like you for it to be all over.

It's is getting better. The restaurants we go to do not allow anyone in the door without a mask on and people have to keep the mask on unless seated at the table. Hubby and I always keep our mask on while we order and keep the mask on until drinks are delivered. Many restaurants have installed plexiglass on the backs of booths and stagger placement of customers at the tables. We feel safe enough to dine in but only the two of us at a table.

4 of us went to Cane Garden Saturday. If the Country Club restaurants are anything like Cane Garden there will soon be closed. I am going to bullet point the issues as there are so many. We arrived at 5:00pm and left at 7:15.
1. There was no spacing between diners, by the time we left every table was occupied
2. We had to request service as we sat for 15 minutes waiting to place beverage orders
3. Two of us ordered meatloaf. 20 minutes later the manager brought over two post roast dinners and was frustrated that we would not accept. The waitress came back to inform us they were out of meatloaf. This was at approximately 5:30/5:45 on a Saturday night.
4. The next time the manager came to our table I asked where his mask was. I was advised it was in his back pocket. He stated that he had asthma and could not breath. My concern was that having asthma and allowing yourself to be exposed in a very public place would create a greater health hazard.
5. We finally received our new dinner orders at approximatly 6:15.
6. At 7:00 we were trying to locate our waitress as we had not seen her for quite some time.
7. I went to the front desk to ask about our waitress, no response, so I asked to see the manager.
8. The manager would not come out of the kitchen to see us and finally after about 10 minutes and two more complaints sent someone out to see us.
9. We had to tell this person what we had ordered so that bills could be drawn up.
10. We were told that our server went home, when asking why we were unable to get an answer.
This will be my last visit to Cane Garden until management changes.

Sorry you didn’t get your meatloaf it’s one of the easiest meals to make and least expensive. Hardest thing a restaurant needs to do is defrost it and bake. Either it’s Cheney Bro’s or SYSCO but not fresh made.

I recall a similar thread a few years ago referencing a different country club restaurant that is no longer in existence. Here is hoping Cane Garden does not wind up with the same outcome.

We have been going to restaurants since they have opened. We haven’t even gotten a cold! The longer you stay secluded your immune system is going down. I know first hand. When I started to work from home after awhile I noticed I was catching more colds. I asked my doctor he said because you are not around people all the time, your immune system has weakened. We wear masks when we have to go in a store. But we don’t wear a mask outside or in our car.
The longer you stay secluded your immune system is going down.
OK, so we should not wear masks and congregate together so we can build up an immunity to this virus? But a significant number of people who contract the virus die from it. How does this build up their immunity for them? In their next life?

We have eaten out about four nights a week since the reopenings. Staying in the basement in fear isn't living. And I agree, wearing a mask in the car???

Went to Cane Garden for lunch after golf yesterday. Service was good. The server was wearing a mask. There we 8 of us, but they would not allow us to put two tables together due to social distancing requirement. Had the Cane Garden Club and chips. It was very good. Would not hesitate to go back.

I guess most of the original waitresses, most of whom were there since Cane Garden opened, went to other establishments. To find some of the old crew try Palmer CC, Darrell's Diner, First Watch on 466A and Wolfgang Puck.
I send my best wishes to them, they were and are a great bunch of hardworking staff. We hope we run into more of them. Such a shame that when the new owners bought it over a year ago that they just didn't leave it alone as far as staff.
Actually, very FEW people die from it!!!!
In the US over 3% of those who contract the virus died from it. In France it was almost 12%. In the UK it was almost 13%. In Italy it was almost 14%. Sorry, I don't consider that "VERY FEW".

We were 4 for breakfast after golf on Sat. Arrived at 10:10 am. Finally served our breakfast at 11:10 am. and the order was wrong. Willie, the manager was apologetic, and gave us two $25 gift cards. Obviously, they were short-staffed. Shame because CG has always been a nice dining experience for us. There was a party of 9 waiting outside when we left. You would think that CG would turn them away knowing that they were short-staffed and couldn’t adequately serve a large group. I think restaurants do themselves more harm by seating people that they can’t adequately serve.

TV doesn't redo CC restaurants anymore. Word is Cane is next in line to become an apartment building. It's apparent after Brownwood and Hacienda Hills there is a need for apartments around LSL. Upscale apartments have a very high profit margin.

It sounds very possible a new/poor waitress. Wrong order... late, if it is a personnel issue it is not something that should be discussed. with anyone but the emloyee. another person had a good expreience at a different time/day. If you don't like the food or service go somewhere else. I went to Codys lake Sumter on a Wednesday night , a Tuesday at Beleair CC, a Saturday at Nancy Lopez CC...food was fine, service was good...not that I believe these are the only good places....When I was there all workers had masks.

That is because you kept a clean house, those that get sick at home is because they aren't cleaning so the bacteria and virus hang around.

We're talking Cane Garden here. Can we please stay on topic? Cane used to be one of the "go to" restaurants. Good food and drink. Please stop with the unsubstantiated posts about apartments, etc. We want to know about the current situation with the food and service.

Word is Cane is next in line to become an apartment building. .
Where does one go to get the "word" you speak of? Newspaper? Website? Tavern?
Or is it just something someone made up to stir the pot?

"they said" - any issues with that ? A subset of "they"is "many people say". I am also good at telling time by when pot stirring responses are posted on this site.

OK true confession I predicted this. Look up my posts. I was also the first to predict on this site Demshar's gone from SS and the La Reina building would be apartments also after Katie Belle's was announced. After Hacienda Hills why wouldn't Cane Gardens be in the cross hairs ? Because it is two miles from Sumter Landing. So is Hacienda Hills from Spanish Springs, The other thing Hacienda had going for it was a great swimming pool with hot tub and Tiki Bar. All of which had a great following. There was no problem with demand. Unless Cane Gardens has solved the water with lemon drinkers I see no reason why HH couldn't make more money than Cane.I'm all ears why Cane Garden is not next. Face it - up scale apartments seems to be a much higher profit maker than renting out a building to a concessionaire.

By the way, ALL VILLAGERS will have open access to the new pool at the proposed apartments, not priority pay-to-play memberships like before.

Biggest difference was HH was in terrible shape, served horrible food and had become a lousy place to go. Pool and tiki bar will not keep a restaurant open. Obviously it had big issues as none of the restaurant groups in TV would even touch it even though they have gone after other embattled country club restaurants. Do not like the idea of apartments but understand that no one is going to sit on valuable property for long making no money.

Would the pool be, family, adult, or sports ? What time will it be open until ? Will it have a handicap lift ? Are they replacing the hot tub also ? What is the source of the information ?

You got called out for lying about "rumors".
Use your Search button (but here's a hint - it will be open to ALL VILLAGERS). You'll find it unless you are blind to positive news.
First sign of failing in a debate - You're just asking rhetorical questions now because you've lost the argument. Take it like a man (woman?) and move on.

The BIG difference is HH was empty for over a year. Cane Garden has an open restaurant. Making up rumors can hurt existing businesses.

A month ago I wrote that I thought Cane Garden, once our favorite restaurant had again improved. So Sorry! Last week I ordered a Cheese Burger, Medium Rare and some Chicken Tenders to go. When I got home, I opened the box and found a overcook piece of meat with cheese on it and NO ROLL. Seriously. Who serves a hamburger with no roll. My wife got chicken tenders. Two were good, the third looked like it had been cooked several hours before. It was very well done and had grill marks on it where it was warmed up. I did go back and the manager apologized . The bartender had put in the correct order. The kitchen staff has no clue. Good Bye Cane Garden.

Yes. Most people would be able to digest that when a sentence starts with "word on the street" However very common to many rumors there usually is a thread of reasonableness behind it. The reasonable part here is what is a more profitable business renting a restaurant to a concessionaire or leasing high end apartment with views that premium lots in TV are going for an extra $150K ? The precedent has been set via the HH experience. Name calling does not get to the heart of what I consider a serious turn of events here in TV. Why Cane Garden ? Because it is probably in the worst shape of all the CC at the moment. Why bring it up ? Because people have a tendency to blow off what's not in their backyard. The point why won't your backyard be next. Time to voice an opinion is now - either way. If we keep it civilized it will most likely be more informative.

Well if I follow your logic, or your fake news, Why wouldn't it be Palmer? Its closer to Sumter Landing. The course is never full, where Cane leads in rounds of golf. The restaurant change ownership but has come back, and seems to doing better. Please note, the difference between HH and Cane was the HH restaurant was AWFUL, and falling apart. FYI, no one has mention ANY golf courses closing, and yes I know you didn't state golf, but guesses, predictions, rumors, lead to "the sky is falling!"

Palmer appears to be in good shape. Also it is a namesake flagship of TV. The HH closing is baffling. If CC restaurants are such a good business why did HH sit closed for a year ? Why didn't another concessionaire lease it ? The last concessionaire I think was the same group that had Glenview, and Beers of The World. I read somewhere here (and no I'm not starting a rumor) there was some issues with the building. Do you remember when the developer sold El Santiago to the district and during the remodel it was discovered some serious structure issues and they tore the whole building down. Then the developer tried to sell HH to the district and this time the district said no thanks.

Let's try to get back on topic again. I have thanked those of you that tried to stay on topic. HH was owned by The Villages. Cane Garden is not owned by The Villages, hence no apartments. This has nothing to do with COVID 19 or masks. I've talked to several of the original staff that left, some who were there over 9 years and they all walked out (including kitchen) because of the way they were treated by new owners. Owners bought Americanos at the same time they bought Cane. They have totally ruined what was a great restaurant and should have left it alone. If they keep treating their employees the way they have since they purchased it, it will be a rotating door of new employees with no experience and will not regain it's good reputation.
