I have been an avid Amazon Prime user, especially these last 5 months with trying to limit my going to stores. I have never used eBay and wondered what peoples' opinions were of Amazon Prime vs. eBay- such things as bargains, confidence in the product, ease of use, hidden charges such as shipping, etc.

Thanks for the timely thread. We also have been using Amazon more and more these days and loving it, but are leery about e-bay and have never used it.

I've used eBay many times and have had great experiences. I haven't done any bidding and always use the "Buy Now" features.
The products were new and have been just what I wanted. Some of the things I've purchased through eBay were cell phone cases, tablet cases, razor blade refills, computer cords, laptop battery, and cordless landline telephone batteries. So based on my experiences, I will continue to use eBay. It is really good for hard to find items.

We Buy and sell on EBay, you can go to eBay and compare with what you are buying on prime. There is nothing I buy from prime (set amount) as opposed to bidding waiting up to 10 days for eBay, that warrants the effort for us

I have Amazon Prime which I use extensively. I also have used E-Bay on several occasions. Some items are available on E-Bay and not on Amazon. Have never had an E-Bay problem. Have never needed to return an item on E-Bay. It is incredibly easy to return on Amazon.

I've been using eBay more frequently now while at home. Amazon is typically my first choice but some items are less expensive on eBay or hard to find elsewhere. I only use the Buy It Now option (no bidding). You can see the seller ratings and avoid anyone who seems problematic. Items are generally shipped very quickly; just make sure they're not coming from overseas.
Many items include free shipping these days. eBay makes it easy for sellers and buyers to contact each other and will mediate any disputes if necessary.
Once you have your account and payment methods set up, eBay is easy to use.

I love Amazon and I buy almost everything from them. But, when I buy something online, a low price is not my primary concern. I really don't know much about eBay, but I would give it a try only if the seller will accept a direct credit card payment. I don't like Paypal, have never used it, and I never will use it. To me, it is a way for merchants to take away my Federal credit card legal protection rights. I think that a reputable merchant should deal directly with the customer, and not need to hide behind Paypal. I may buy something from eBay some day, but only if Paypal is not involved in the transaction.

I've used both without issue
for whatever reason I'm not a big fan of PayPal....have used it without issue though
I am hearing tales of scammers on eBay trying to pull stuff with 'sellers'...they want you to accept a certified check from them that is more than the sale price and send them the difference along with the merchandise....of course the check is bogus

I've made 300 purchases on ebay over the last ten years--and almost NEVER had a problem. Bought everything--from food supplements, artwork from foreign countries, golf stuff, clothing, etc. You name it, I'll check on ebay FIRST before any place else, including Amazon, because it's almost always cheaper. Although ebay purchase deliveries are not one-day, as with Prime, that's really seldom necessary. Again, 300 purchases! So what does that tell you?

Yea...you would not be a happy shopper on EBay.
It runs transactions through PayPal, I am not sure there is an option to use your credit card anymore.
I have bought and sold on EBay for 21 years. I have used PayPal for all transactions in the last 10 years. I’ve had a few Ebay problems over the years, but always managed to resolve it with the Seller, because we both want to keep our Ebay rating high.
I’ve never had a problem with PayPal.
That being said, Amazon is my #1 choice. I have a Prime charge card, and I get back 5% on all purchases done on Amazon’s site.
So I’ll continue to use both sites.

I use both but mostly from Amazon. This week I googled an item I was going to buy on Amazon and Google found it at half the price at Target. Walmart is also frequently less expensive. Good idea to use Google shopping to compare prices.Google Shopping (https://shopping.google.com)

If I'm absolutely sure I want a product I will not hesitate to purchase it from eBay. If there's even a remote chance that I'm going to return it, I will purchase it from a different retailer, Amazon Walmart Target home Depot etc. The reason is simple, I don't want to hassle with individual return policies on eBay.

If you can get into the habit of buying everyday items from Amazon, you can save a lot of time and money. Things like paper towels, shampoo, soft drinks, non-prescription drugs, non-perishable food items, etc, are usually way cheaper than the grocery store and they show up on your front porch in about 2 days. I often buy a 24 bottle package of Gaterade for half the cost at Publix, and I don't need to carry it.

I’m an avid Amazon Prime user too. I also use EBay. In my humble opinion, Amazon Prime is superior. I’ve never had a problem with Amazon. They are on top of their game. I like EBay too but I need to double check the satisfaction rates of the sellers before I buy. I’ve had a few issues. I’ve never had issues with Amazon. As for deals, I think I like Amazons service over Ebays deals. Much of the stuff on EBay is product the seller has bought in bulk and is reselling so I’m never sure how old it is. Plus it takes longer to get. Amazon prime has spoiled me. Sometimes I have the item the next day which amazes me. Also love no shipping. The annual fee more then covers postage for me. So in my humble opinion, Amazon Prime wins. And I didn’t even get around to mentioning Prime TV, that’s another great one.:bigbow:

I've used and sold on Ebay for over 15 years. I actually purchase my Avon a $38 jar for half the price. I buy things on Ebay that I know I won't be returning. I don't buy cloths on Ebay or any sites because I'm very hard to guessing what will fit correctly. I even purchased an authentic Coach bag for half the price because it had a defect, which after inspection, I actually had to ask the seller where is the defect because I couldn't find it. Even Coach website confirmed it was authentic. I prefer to use PayPal because they protect the buyers credit card information and stand behind the buyers as they also stand by the seller. I personally would not use a seller who doesn't take Paypal. I also use Amazon for things I can't find on Ebay. My advice for either site, always confirm with the sellers the expiration dates on items that would have expiration dates. Only buy in the USA unless there is something you truly want and don't care about out of the Country shipping charges. And last, get and use a credit card that only gives you $500 to spend when purchasing on line.

I currently have Prime "on pause" due to Amazon's taking tools away from law enforcement that it needs. I have used ebay, even before this pause, with good results. I will probably go back to Amazon one day, but I'm happy to carry out my small protest, and even saving a bit of money - around $11 for each month I don't use Prime, plus all the things I decide I can do without or get locally for just as good a price or better.

Ebay has stronger protection to the buyer than credit cards do. Have no fear when using them.

I purchase most things on EBay, they clearly show prices and also shipping costs if any, (I prefer to buy items that are free shipping) the good thing is that you have a variety of vendors to choose from, look where the vendor is located and the estimated delivery. Most important pay with PayPal, I put a credit card (discover) against the PayPal account, why do I do this, double guarantee, I have ordered an item that I never received, out a PayPal claim, had a total refund on my account in less than 24 hours. Everything you buy on EBay is guaranteed most vendors want a good review since that is how possible buyers see them. Have a great fun time, and use E-Bay, they are GREAT been using them for YEARS now

I don't like wasting a lot of time and effort physically traveling around to stores trying to find what I'm looking for, and with the pandemic, that is even more true.
Before I became a prime member, I used eBay exclusively without any problems. However, you have to realize that eBay doesn't maintain stock of it's items, that is owned by the individual sellers and shipping is controlled by them. Amazon controls much more of the inventory on their site and shipping is free and fantastic if you are a prime member. Having said that, I've rarely had problems with shipping of items purchased on eBay. Most vendors on eBay these days offer free shipping but it won't be as fast as Amazon. I've purchased major items such as big screen tvs and guitars from eBay without problems but use Amazon more due to fast shipping and I use their sponsored credit card which gives me cash rebates for credit towards future purchases.
I have total confidence in both eBay and Amazon from my purchasing experience over many years.

I use paypal exclusively for online purchases on eBay because it provides a buffer between my credit card number and vendor data bases that may be subject to hacking. It costs me nothing more and works fast and great. I also use it to transfer small cash amounts which does cost but is similar to costs at Western Union.

I try to avoid buying items made in China and dealing with companies that are left leaning in their politics. The founder of Amazon is a huge supporter of BLM even to the tune of donating millions of dollars to their radical cause of “fundamentally transforming America”.

So, I sold thousands of items on Ebay. We had an antique tool business. Rules:
Check the nimbers behind the sellers name and the percentages. This number tells you how many transactions this srller has had and the percentage tells you jow happy cusyomers were. Pick only sellers eith 97%-100% only.
Make sure you ask questions of the seller, if they aren't answered in the display. Make sure you can return, if that is important yo you. Check out the shipping costs. They can outweigh the value of the item. Make sure you set up a Paypal account, as most sellers require payment with this method.
I have also bought many personal items and for the most part was happy.
Just be smart. If it looks yoo good t9 be true, it probably is. Trust the sellers with high trsnsaction numbers. If domeone has under 100 transactions, find someine else.

I've purchased hundreds a products off eBay and id not risky. It sounds like you either had a rare bad experience or haven't really used eBay. Ebay will help you to resolve any problems in a timely manner and you can rely on them without worry. Please don't trash a service of which you obviously have little experience.

I've been buying and selling on Ebay for over 20 years. I've sold about 30k worth of stuff in all that time.
I never sell anything on Ebay unless it really doesn't have much value to me to begin with. I have a lot of engineering parts from old projects, like Servos, gear motors, etc, plus some computer stuff like older video cards, etc. About 1 in 20 sales, the buyer name is gibberish, like GG22h11 and the account signed up the same day. I ship the same day, so this tells me it's a stolen Paypal account and experience tells me to cancel the order.
That said, I will check on Ebay for buying if the item is new and I'm willing to wait longer than prime. There are a bunch of good vendors with 10s of thousands or more of positive feedback. Place the order and it usually shows up and you save a few bucks.
To compare Ebay to Amazon prime is akin to comparing the Markets of Marion to Walmart and Target. Sure, you might find the same stuff, but Ebay is all different vendors where Amazon Prime, is for the most part stocked by Amazon. Some Amazon marketplace vendors do match prime shipping, but I've found that to be hit or miss. Unless it's actually prime or fulfilled by Amazon, I will look elsewhere.

Ebay and Amazon are very different and serve different purposes. For one, with Amazon Prime everything is new, a set price and the item is usually delivered within a day or two. In addition, the delivery is free as well as the return. Ebay, on the other hand, can be a new or used item, you can Buy Now or bid on an item that takes several days, there may be a shipping fee, and some sellers accept returns but you pay for that service, There are some really good prices if you have a specific item in mind, but buying and selling is loosely done on eBay with limited oversight. I’ve used both for different reasons, but Amazon is my daily go-to for everything.

I use Ebay and Amazon all the time and have for many years. You can find better deals on Ebay because it's not really a retail only site like Amazon (although they have lots of retailers on it). That said, I almost always comparison shop, plus I read the Amazon reviews.
On occasion, I need to return something on either vendor and it's mostly not a problem. On rare occasion there's a screw up but gets fixed.

I’m not a shopper and make most of my purchases online, including Prime and eBay. If payment via PayPal is an option, I use that rather than giving many merchants my credit card number. My PayPal account uses my credit card for payment, therefore, I have credit card protection as well as PayPal’s protections. Only once have I had a dispute with a seller and PayPal refunded my money. I certainly do not make purchases exclusively through Prime as their selection of merchandise and their prices are not always the best.

They are two totally different entities. I have bought jewelry on eBay at very good prices. I buy almost everything else thru Amazon Prime —not only good products at good prices but I get a considerable amount of money back.

Amazon does have advantages. Amazon has the largest number of reviews. Always check the 3 star reviews. And you can also check the history of the reviewer to see if they are credible or a compensated shill. Also you can compare similar products much quicker. If you find something you like then you can price check other options.
Some vendors have products on both platforms and eBay is usually cheaper. I recently saved $3.00 on a product costing $75.00 . Nothing major but adds up if you shop online frequently.
I highly recommend checking Best Buy if they carry the same items. On Amazon and Ebay you have to worry about used and counterfeit items. Plus there is a local store to return items. I also find that the reviews are more accurate and legitimate.
A big plus for Amazon is that the returns are incredibly easy. You just take the item back to a UPS store and they do the packing.

I use Amazon extensively and their protection system is very good. They allow returns and adjustments when necessary and are very fair in their procedures. Ebay has a protection system in place as well and I usually pay through paypal which also has a good protection system. I've had to return articles with both purchase types and have never had an issue. Always check the reviews and seller ratings before ordering as this reduces the number of problems you might encounter.

Love EBay. Just make sure you read the description of items and return policy. Look for Free Shipping. Much cheaper 80% - 90% of the time than Amazon. Have used both for years. Ebay is very reliable. Also look for the seller- You want one that 99-100% satisfaction. Hoping this helps

When I find an item I want I check prices on Ebay and Amazon. I don't have prime tho. I have returned things on eBay but these were products that either didn't work or flawed. Ebay gives you a chance to email the seller and a week or 10 days for them to respond and make it right such as refund or replacement. If the seller doesn't there's a money back guarantee and eBay gets involved to rectify the situation. I've returned a few items and never have I seen a seller let eBay get involved because they don't want their rating to go down which is visible to the buyer. I always use BUY NOW button. Ebay will ship a $2.95 item free whereas with amazon I need the $35 minimum. Amazon of course has an excellent return policy and very easy to work with. Ebay doesn't give you return labels so if you don't like something but the item is ok you could be stuck with it. I use both sources and am pleased doing so. I am a price shopper and compare the prices on both before I decide.

Depending on what you buy on Ebay it may not be warrantied. Most warranties require purchase through an "Authorized Retailer" and Ebay does not necessarily fit the bill. Also many products purchased on E-Bay come from other countries especially China w/o saying so. That being said IF as mentioned earlier some sellers sell on both platforms and by comparing prices you may save a few bucks using E-Bay. I get auto parts from dealers from E-Bay for MUCH less than over the counter and never had an issue.

Ebay may be cheaper on some items and no shipping charge. Be careful - they show false pictures, China products take a bazillion years to arrive. I bought double sided tape. The photo looked like normal 3/8". Taped arrived 1/16" from China which took 2 months. Have bought other things cheaper than Amazon. Penny wise dollar foolish. The small savings is not worth the searching.

I have bought and sold on eBay and never had a problem. You can get great bargains and find things there that you won’t find elsewhere. Etsy is a great place to buy handmade gifts. I have shopped Etsy.com for years. Also take advantage of Rakuten. You do get cash back on qualified purchases every 3 months.

I have bought and sold on eBay for years. It is safe if you do your due diligence on the seller. Don’t just go by the rating, actually read the reviews and pay attention to what kind of support they provide. Every seller will have a problem here and there, but it is how they handle it when it happens that really counts. eBay itself also provides protection against any seller who misrepresented their item when you bought it. And get a PayPal account if you do buy on eBay. Besides being the simplest way to buy on eBay, it is the safest.
You might also want to check out Walmart.com. We have been finding items there cheaper than on Prime at times, and they offer free shipping on orders of $35.00 or more and many items have 2 day delivery included - and no membership fee to get either.

I’ve been using PayPal for years, and it is great. It’s very easy to use, and it is secure. I buy things from private sellers who aren’t set up to take credit cards, and I sell things to the same sort of people. That’s why PayPal is perfect for eBay. I also use it to send money to friends or relatives.
I can remember back when if I sold something on eBay, I might have to wait a week for a check to arrive, then another week for the check to clear, and then ship the package. With PayPal, the company informs me when the payment arrives and it is safe to ship, and that is usually at once. It is easy to transfer the money to my checking account. PayPal is essentially an escrow account, with the company taking the risk in return for a small fee.

If PayPal is so great as some posters have said, why don't stores like Home Depot, Best Buy, Publix, restaurants, small shops, etc, require their customers to use PayPal? I buy a lot of things in stores and online, but I have never been required to use PayPal. But, as I understand it, almost everything you buy on eBay must go through PayPal, even from large venders.

It's like any thing else in this world. You have to read the small print. Never had one bad experience on any purchase. You do not have to use Pay-Pal for any purchase..You just check off the box for credit card and enter your card info.

Amazon vs. eBay is a little like comparing a grocery store to a department store or baseball to football: they are both useful, but they are very different.
I use Amazon Prime a LOT, often $1,000 a month. I use eBay less, but I buy things on eBay that Amazon doesn’t have. For example, I buy used books on Amazon, but also on eBay. But I also buy used musical instruments on eBay, often great values, but never on Amazon, though I have bought some new ones there. Antiques, I’d buy only from eBay. I collect fine art, mostly over a century old, and I’ve made some wonderful purchases there for much less money than I’d pay in a gallery. (But eBay also sells garbage Chinese painted copies of great art at very low prices. Horrifying. Don’t buy it! You also have to watch out for shady sellers who make untrue claims—this gets better all the time).
I find that eBay has all sorts of unusual things Amazon probably doesn’t carry. But I check both. I often use Buy It Now on eBay, but I’ve also used auctions a lot. I’m selling things by auction right now. (I have over 1,200 positive reviews and no negative reviews.) There are tricks to buying by auction. They are the same as buying at a live auction, for the most part. For example, don’t bid unless you know what something is worth, and know how much you are willing to spend. It is completely unfair to try to return something you bought at auction because you decide you don’t like it. If you don’t like it, resell it! Some people get caught up in the excitement and bid early and want to always have the top bid. I love it when people do that when I’m selling something! I love it when they have to have it at any cost. But as for me, I try to register my first and only bid seven seconds before the end of the auction, and I bid the maximum I’m willing to pay. Then it’s too late for counter-bids.
I know people up who use eBay on a cell phone, but I strongly urge people to use an iPad or computer. You see larger photos of products there and can see all of the information instead of just part of it.
Buyer beware! It’s possible to go onto Amazon, find some book or item you know about, and buy it with your mind half asleep. (I’m sure you know people whose sharp thinking never kicks into gear, who go through lives without ever really thinking.) EBay requires sharp wits. It’s for smart people who are careful and canny and read the fine print and can search photos carefully for flaws. Then they get bargains. You have to remember to see how many reviews a seller or buyer has, and what percentage are positive. You have to check the condition report. You have to check the shipping costs. I have been burned a couple times on eBay, sometimes for several hundred dollars. I’ve also returned some things successfully when they weren’t as advertised. (Never because I decided I didn’t like them. I despise people who do that.) I find that eBay is always trying to making changes that protect buyers. It can make it hard for sellers. I try to be scrupulously honest when I sell things. A lot of sellers do. Also, a lot of eBay sellers are very friendly and will answer your questions.
I have a friend who buys old marbles, some of them quite rare and expensive. She shops only on eBay. There are antique stores that sell them, but those stores are all over the world, and it isn’t easy to get there or know who has something special. On eBay, she can look at 10,000 old marbles.
I find that eBay is GREAT for collectors, but collectors who know what they are doing do better. Amazon is useless for collectors. EBay is also good for collections of things. For example, one eBay seller who lives in The Villages is selling twelve novels by one author because he has read them. On Amazon, you would have to buy each book separately and pay shipping on each one.
I have a friend who lives in The Hamptons and spends weekends going to yard sales and buying designer clothes used at very low prices. Then she resells them on eBay with ads explaining what she has. She makes about $2,000 to $3,000 profit per month! I figure I’m lucky to break even selling things I don’t need.
In short, I’d say, if you aren’t looking for used or collectible things, and you are just looking to buy everyday products cheaply, stay on Amazon. If you are alert and careful and willing to see the eBay search as a lot of the fun, and you buy mostly used things or collectibles, give eBay a try.

I have used E-bay but much less than Amazon. Agree with what you posted and others on here. I do not have Paypal and never will. I have purchased a few things, in particular arts and craft materials and have purchased collectable items as gifts (a rare stein for a family member who collects them, a "retired" piece for a Christmas village no longer available at retail for another relative, etc.) and have (so far) never had a problem. Again, I don't order but a few times per year and the items have all been as described (excellent condition, etc.), come quickly and well packed. Only one time did I decline to purchase because the person only accepted Paypal; later I was able to find the same item from a seller who did accept my Amex. With all this said, I have never quite had the same feeling about both sites, Amazon, with it's large regional facilities and uniform shipping, packaging, etc. "probably" is less of a "gamble". Perhaps someone on here will have a tale about NOT receiving an item as it was described and the repercussions/outcome ?

Amazon Prime is my favorite, but Ebay has gotten much better over the years. PayPal is easy to use and a go to option when I do buy something there.

the big difference between Amazon and Ebay is that Amazon was created to sell new merchandise, while Ebay was created as an auction site to sell used items.
To my knowledge, Amazon does not feature used items, or items for sale from private parties. Ebay now has some new merchandise, but that is not it's focus.
Amazon does, however, have some "other sellers" that deal in used items -- like used and out-of-print books.
Ebay is also a little more of a "wild west", you might find a real bargain on an out of stock or reconditioned item, but there is always an element of risk. I have bought from both.

I found Ebay to be really good about resolving disputes. They also have an insurance policy to reimburse a buyer if the seller does not deliver, misrepresents item, or otherwise acts unethically. The last I was aware of, it did have a maximum refund amount of about $2,000. So, if you are bidding on a car or other expensive item - be cautious.

"...hide behind PayPal"? You've got a lot to learn about online payment systems. PayPal hides my credit card information from sellers. All they know is PayPal is providing the payment. They never, ever get my credit card number. Plus, I've enabled two-factor authentication on my PayPal account. So, anytime I want to make a purchase using PayPal, I get a text to my smartphone with a security code, and then I have to enter that security code back online before PayPal will process my payment.
Plus, PayPal has "buyer's protection" in place for most of the things bought using PayPal. You do have to know the things that aren't covered (e.g. if you somehow bought real estate, or if you just "weren't happy" with your purchase). If a seller sends you something that wasn't what they advertised, PayPal will refund both the payment you made and any shipping costs. Of course, you have to make a claim with them within a certain amount of time.
Here's a PayPal info sheet on buyer's protections:
PayPal Purchase Protection for Buyers – PayPal US (https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security)
Personally, I've found PayPal has a bias in protecting BUYERS vs Sellers. My company used PayPal as a payment "gateway" (processing transactions), and PayPal was more inclined to believe unhappy buyers - even when we could prove we acted in good faith. But again, that points more toward PayPal being a good choice for you as a buyer.
I will almost always choose PayPal when it's offered to me as a purchaser, even when credit card payments are an option.
For some of the reasons listed above I still like buying direct from a store like Walmart. It's fast, fresh merchandise and makes it so much easier on returns.

eBay is outstanding and backs buyers who want to make a return. However, Amazon tops any company out there. Never hidden returns and no questions asked. You don’t even need to package your return. Just hand it to a Kohl’s employee and you’re done. I also believe you can return an item via United Parcel Service.

I have read all of the eBay buyer protection rules, but they don't compare to the way Amazon handles issues. And, even though sometimes you can enter a credit card to make a purchase on eBay, the transaction is still being handled by a third party. I want to deal directly with the seller, not some third party who rakes off a fee. For most items you buy on Amazon, you are dealing directly with Amazon, and you always have full access to the credit card protection rights provided by Federal law. The eBay process seems very fishy to me. If I can't do business directly with the seller, then I will do business somewhere else. But, I understand why people use eBay for purchases.

Likewise I use PayPal for protection it provides, i.e, safe credit card transactions, non-deliveries or otherwise not satisfied. I have not bought much on eBay but on the few occasions I have had no issues. I have often used PayPal on other merchant sites. Never had to file a complaint.

Think of Amazon as an online version of traditional brick & mortar stores in that most of the vendors on it are full-blown retailers with full lines of products to sell. In comparison, eBay is more like an online version of a flea market and that most of the vendors on it are individuals with one or two items or a handful of items to sell. You can get some great deals at flea markets but you can also get junk, get scammed and pay more than some things are actually worth.

I have used both and for the most part prefer Amazon. Much better reviews and faster shipping, especially if you have Prime truck delivery to your location. Very easy returns. I have sold and bought on eBay. Selling is a royal pain because of all the fees as well as people who can try to rip you off. I had to resort using black light markings in hidden places so that people didn't buy my stuff and then try to return one that was broken or damaged in it's place. Buying is better (eBay protects the buyers and pretty much penalizes the sellers), but you have to be really careful that something isn't being shipped directly from China. I ran into that where location said California, but when I got the tracking number it was coming from China and taking 3-4 weeks. We always packed very carefully and securely but not everyone does that and then you have to go through a lot to get your money back. I just prefer the no hassle with Amazon.
If anyone is not aware, Amazon has a "Smile" program where a small bit of your purchase goes toward the charity of your choice. You can go in and check if your favorite charity is there. Once you choose your charity you purchase through smile.amazon.com instead of just regular Amazon. I bookmark the smile site and use it exclusively. The % is very small, but it costs me nothing and is easy and I figure the charity can use anything they can get.
As far as Paypal...........if there is a problem you have to go through PP to get it straightened out, even if you use a CC. Plus I'm not sure if other CC benefits apply. I have never had a problem with any of my CCs when it came to a problem and I have instant access to them as well as the other benefits, like extended warranties. The only time I use PP is if I don't have any other choice and really want the item.

One big advantage I like with a PayPal is that I am not giving my credit card number out to each merchant individually and trusting their security practices. There is also a level of protection using a big name middle-man for the transaction.

I buy regularly on both E-bay and Amazon. Most of my E-bay purchases are for collectible and rare items which are usually not
available on Amazon. I always finalize my purchases via PayPal and have not had any problem. Amazon is great for newer items
which are sometimes available on E-Bay as well. Know your prices and check both sites. An item which is up for bid On E-Bay may win you a bargain by comparison to Amazon. Watch the ending date and check near the deadline to see how your bid stacks up. Many items won do include free shipping; check before you bid and consider before you finalize the bid.

PayPal is between way of paying where the selling don’t get you’re personal information, you can chose you’re credit card you don’t have to use PayPal. PayPal pays them and they retrieve funds from you’re personnel account that you chose to pay from. It can be bank account, credit card, or number other ways to pay if offered.
On eBay you never have to pay the seller directly and if you’re not satisfied you can return the item for refund. If you don’t get item eBay will refund you’re money. Which usually takes 7 days after the promised delivery date. IMO it you use eBay and pay by credit care you have double the refund insurance. Which means you have two ways of getting you’re money back if not satisfied by one or the other.
Plus on top of that you get to rate the seller. I used both amazon and eBay and never had problem with funds returned or satisfaction from either. I look at as shopping at two different stores for the same item. You go to who has the best deal.
Any eBay seller that selling large quantities don’t want bad rating. If you buy from individual that sold low number of items and haven’t been rated you maybe taking chance and you can see that in upper right corner sellers rating. but eBay policy you get you’re money back. And they collect from the seller.

Computer transfer’s can be trace you’re every move. Basically you can hide money. Which means the governments know exactly what you have so they can tax it, take it.

We don't pay the annual fee to Amazon for prime, so we notice shipping costs more. For useful items... Sports equipment, tools, parts, sunshades, boating and auto parts, etc I always try Walmart first (not clothing.. Unreliable quality). Never a shipping charge when we pick it up at the store. No problem returning back to the store also.
Yes, PayPal was bought by eBay years ago then spun off as a separate company.
On eBay when searching check boxes that show items from US or at least North America to avoid inferior (too good to be true) items coming from China. Unfortunately many Chinese sellers use a California address but it will actually be shipped from China after a long long wait wait.

Just a quick note MasterCard 2 Capital One has a very good system to allow you to create easily a unique card number for each purchase. After you use your card on an internet purchase you can then delete the number from the system or keep it if you intend to continue with purchasing from a vendor it's a great safety feature

And Walmart is easy to touch with if I have a problem. I regularly use both. If you’re careful in using eBay, use only frequently used sellers with high ratings, it’s quite reliable. EBay is my “go to” for used items and older items no longer available on Amazon Prime.
For the most part Prime’s pricing is MSRP. The service on Amazon Prime is great, except for products being offered by third party merchants. The excellent Amazon guarantees don’t apply to products or services offered and fulfilled by third parties. Be very careful of that.

This is exactly the opposite of what you should be wanting.
Yes to the Amazon praise; BUT, using Direct Credit Card payment is a great way to give your card information to an imposter for their fraudulent intents.
The reason for PayPal and other "Pay" services is to preclude your personal information, numbers, and credentials from being made available to the fraudsters.
You might want to revisit the LOGIC of what you are pursuing.
For example, when Target, Home Depot and other major retailers got hacked, thousands of Cred Card holders were defrauded from the subsequent use of exposed Credit Card info.
None that had used a "Pay" service could be compromised since their information was NOT able to be seen by the perpatrators.
Maybe look into "Visa Pay" or other non PayPal providers if your issue is with PayPal.
I, personally, have had my Credit Card compomised (in the Target hack).
And have never had an issue with PayPal or VisaPay AmazonPay; all of which I successfully use since their inceptions.

for whatever reason I'm not a big fan of PayPal....have used it without issue though
I am hearing tales of scammers on eBay trying to pull stuff with 'sellers'...they want you to accept a certified check from them that is more than the sale price and send them the difference along with the merchandise....of course the check is bogus
That scam has been in existance for decades and isnt exclusive to ebay. So, why worry about it. If it doesnt sound right, its usually a scam and shame on the people who take a chance just out of greed

Home Depot, BestBuy and others you reference do allow the use of PayPal.
They, of course, do not "require" you to use PayPal.
Ebay requires the use of PayPal because it is a PROVEN service to prevent fraud and they own PayPal.
I really think you are missing the whole point of the protections provided by using a Pay service. PayPal or otherwise.

Ebay is generally lower price and can find more obscure things and used items. Amazon is a better user experience. Sometimes Ebay will send "gray market" items which may include non-authentic copies of games or other items. Some may appreciate a knock off at a lower price while others may not.

I feel ebay is more personal people, that may or not be responsible. I will use Amazon over ebay, for sure, but prefer going directly with the company I am doing business with.

I find that Amazon Prime is much faster in delivery than Ebay. Also, returning something is much easier through Amazon than Ebay. I shop at both sites but prefer Amazon because of their return policy.

Spot on. Amazon better for day to day things with no hassle and fast shipping. eBay you can get better bargains sometimes, but you have to be more attentive and patient.
You can also find more "eclectic" things on eBay. I can find a vintage pair of boots on eBay, not Amazon. I like Saucony running shoes, but I like the model from two years ago better than the current model. I can find the older model on eBay.

My account of PayPal was hacked. I haven't used PayPal since.
You may got scammed and or knowing gave the access to you you’re computer or through email. Like the one that says you’re account has been hacked and call or click here. Several scams going around even amazon scam. Never respond to email or give online access to you’re computer, call the company directly from land line or cell phone.

And I choose "Combat Veterans To Careers" costs nothing and helps them.
Everyone should pick a charity and use AMAZON SMILE if they use Amazon.:agree:
