I 100% agree with you. It seems to be all about "them" (the professional athletes). I'll be honest, it appears BLM is a group that is narrowly focused to have a positive impact on black lives that have been shot or harassed by police.
I believe they could make a much bigger impact if they focused on the black youth that need guidance as they grow up, Give them positive role models. Give them pathways where they can grow up and be productive adults.
BLM is focused on a small sliver of situations where police officers target black youth. They ignore the opportunity to address the broader issue where the black youth need a positive role model to point them in the right direction. (and let me say it's not JUST the black youth... but that seems to be fashionable conversation lately).

It’s incredible to see what has taken place in the world of sports. As a young boy In the Hudson valley in NY, I had one desire and that was to play mlb. We slept and ate baseball! In those days the Major leaguers had winter jobs to make it through. Some picked up jobs in construction or worked gas stations ect. They simply loved the game, and we loved them and emulated them. Today it’s disgraceful to see some of the superstars use their platform to make fools of themselves. Basketball, football, and now the pastime of summer. Some of us served honorably in the military and gave our best to a great country! Many of the professional ball players left the game they loved to go to war n serve their country. No comparison to today. We have no desire to even watch a game as we see the foolishness on display

I'm personally over them too. I actually have lost respect for professional athletes in the past year. Overpaid whine babies doing nothing more than playing sports demonstrating total disrespect for the fans and country that gave them the opportunity to do in the first place.

Notice that the PGA Tour players studiously avoid political positions because as "independent contractors" it will affect their individual brand by alienating half of the public. Besides, professional athletes are "entertainers". I want their entertainment--not their opinion on any subject. Just do their jobs, shut up and take the money--or lose my viewership.

I could care less about the Milwaukee Bucks, but that said they should be protesting the stupidity of criminals that don’t know how to understand a simple order given to them by the police, rather than protesting alleged brutality by said police. If I’m told to stand down by the police and I resist arrest and go to bend over to get something out of my car, I expect to be tasered or even shot.
I’m totally tired of career criminals being turned into martyrs or heroes. They are not!

If the PGA had a 30% to 50% makeup of black golfers, as it is with other pro sports, then you might see the same response from them when a police officer kills an unarmed black citizen. As a former state trooper, I am appalled at what I've witnessed on television with these types of killings. Wouldn't you think the officers involved in these incidents would consider the consequences of their actions, i.e. mass rioting, millions in damages, defiance of authority, injuries, deaths, and on and on and on? There can be no defense for an officer that shoots a man in the back numerous times, when other options (taser, two officers overtaking the suspect) are available. Some will say that the guy was going for a knife in the car (something that hasn't been proven), but as the old saying goes, never bring a knife to a gun fight. If in fact he had been going for a knife, the shooting might have been justified, but certainly not in the back.
Aren't we glad that we aren't black? When a white person gets pulled over by the police, the first thing that eneters his mind is "Oh, oh - probably getting a traffic ticket", while the black when being pulled over only hopes he doesn't die. For the most part we are a racist society, for if we weren't we might understand and appreciate the reasons these pro players are ****ed off, instead of passing them off as unappreciative "thugs". LeBron James pays for college education at the University of Akron, for kids that complete his "I Promise Program". This young, gifted pro b-ball player is anything but a "thug".

I'm becoming offended that almost all the players are black. We should have a certain amount of white players even if their talent is inferior. I'm concerned that the white players are being subjected to loud rap music in the locker room and being bullied into wearing funny clothes and massive amounts of expensive jewelry. I'm concerned for their safety. White players matter.

It’s not about a stand against murdering people because if it was they would’ve took a stand 15 years ago against Chicago when they became the murder capital of the US. It’s about a football quarterback losing his touch and had nothing else going for him so he took a knee
I am over BLM because they pick what black lives matter ( which always seem to a career criminal) It’s not all black lives because if it was they stop black or black killing, they stop burning down black own businesses, they would stop looting black own businesses and they would stop beating up black people
So no I don’t agree with theirs or your narrative

I too am glad not to have been born black and have to deal with the uneasiness they must feel about going about their normal lives.
It says something when we are more concerned about our sporting entertainment than about the problem being highlighted here. We should all be standing up against this sort of violence - it is not acceptable. I can’t believe some of these Police are so poorly trained as I think in many cases it is more heavy handed reactions and not necessarily pure racism that is the problem.

SMH I can't believe some of the responses here. Is America so callous to not understand the issues here. Why are twice as many black men killed by police as white men. A minority of people are shot with wanton disregard. So many are also shot in the back. Whatever happened to "Do not shoot till you see the white of their eyes?" Apparently, its become "Do not shoot until you see the black of their skin!" What a sad commentary this has become.

Good chance I would do the same. BUT, I’d be sure they were facing me, with knife in hand, and it was evident some form of aggression was about to take place.
There’s a saying out there about bringing a knife to a gun fight, given the context of that it seems to me 7 shots in the back is excessive.

An unarmed white person is twice as likely to be shot by the police as an unarmed black person. The difference is that the national news is 100% more likely to report the black killing. If Floyd was white, you wouldn’t even know his name, because the national news networks wouldn’t have bothered picking up his story...

On my goodness!!! What are we going to do? Boycott themselves away. Perhaps they can boycott all the cities where murder of blacks by other blacks happen daily, or perhaps they can boycott against the atrocities committed by the Chinese government against their own people. Oh, wait!! They can't. The Chinese and NIKE own the NBA. LeWong James is the face of the CNBA, the Chinese Basketball Association. Play your games there.

So not being in support of the "agenda" defines one as white privilege?!
What do you call the common every day black who is not supportive of the agenda?! You know the group nobody ever hears about! Or from!
The same folks who believe if you break or disobey the law you get what you deserve.
The continual forcing so many issues into a white VS black has become a very dangerous situation threatening the American majority......anybody that that bleeds red!!!!!

Another knee jerk reaction. All of the facts in this case are not known. When they are justice will be served. It will either be found to be a justified shooting or the police will be prosecuted.
How can anyone protest this without know what happened.
So many people thought that the George Floyd case was cut and dry. Now it's being released that Floyd had a white pill on his tongue when police first approached him and that is was an illegal drug that caused his death. The autopsy will show one way or another. But it's very possible that the officer kneeling on his neck had nothing to do with his death.
People need to wait until all of the evidence in any and all cases has been presented before reacting.

I watched the Bolts beat up on the Bruins last night and the Avs come back to challenge Dallas. National Anthem was played and no one took a knee. When baited by MSNBC to comment on the shooting, the players would only say they support equality. Enough said. The Bolts are leading the series 2-0 and The Blues (who mopped them up last year and a serious contender this year) were eliminated in round one by the Canadians along with the Caps. Some big upsets. Watch hockey. Some great games. The Avs game was especially fun to watch. Incredible goals by both teams. Go Bolts!!
Awww, dang it. The NHL is now suspending games.

You don’t want to watch, don’t watch it’s a free country. The NBA players are free to boycott also. You know some things are bigger then sports and many players are just as outraged at shooting as many of the same people are here with them . So many angry at them and saying nothing about a bad shoot. I can only go on the video and my own experiences , but right from the start as he started walking away if he had put the gun away it’s a very simple take down from behind bending into him so his knees give away , even muggers use it. Pumping 7 or 8 bullets into someone should have us all outraged black and white

BLM are now backed by Marxists radicals and no longer have any direction. NOW, professional sports can not remain focused on THEIR purpose and they have become politicians and instead of doing what they get paid for they are involved in radical commentary. MAYBE they should 'cure' the fact that the black population is 13% of America's total population and commits 70% of the crimes and 72% of the black children do NOT know who their father is??? I'm so sick of hearing "white privilege"! I grew up just as poor as many blacks and back then there were no welfare or food stamp programs, quotas for college or hiring preferences. I worked my butt off and didn't become a criminal. Being white had nothing to do with my modest success in life, I got there on my own efforts. I served in the military and worked in the private sector and there were plenty of minorities that succeeded as well or better than I did.

Another typical knee jerk reaction. We should all wait until all of the information about what happened is made know.
And know. Police do not have time to consider the consequences of their actions, i.e. mass rioting, millions in damages, defiance of authority, injuries, deaths, and on and on and on. These things happen in less than a second. There is never time to consider anything except that your life or the lives of others are being threatened and you need to stop the threat.
Again, we do not have any information. If the person who was shot was reaching for a weapon the shooting will be deemed justified. If he was not and not posing any danger to the officers then they will be charged and brought to trial. That is the justice system. It's the same system that is there for you in the event that you caused injury or death to another person.

Thank you for your well thought out and fact based reply. Baseball and golf are predominately white, thus perhaps don’t feel the need to speak out at the risk of their careers.
The media focuses on what sells....turmoil, rather than the philanthropy these players participate in.
BTW, those who keep referring to these players as thugs with hoods, you might want to think about the implied racism behind this label.....or maybe you knew that all along.

This is nothing but grandstanding to keep certain fans happy. Where has their outrage been for all of the children that die from guns. Where is the outrage at a man being kicked senseless. Where is their outrage at the business owners and workers that will loose their house, not be able to feed their children or not be able to keep the utilities on because they have no job when the business they worked at was destroyed in a peaceful demonstration!
As far as the talk fathers give their sons, my father gave me the talk. Treat your elders with respect, be honest, treat others like you would want to be treated and if or when the police or anyone that has a legal authority to shoot you or put you in jail do what they tell you to do, when they tell you to and call your mother or I if you go to jail. Mom added if you can not say something nice do not say anything at all.
The last part obviously does not get through to a lot of kids/adults. Have followed these as well as others thru life and they have served me well.
Oh yeah he also said do not hit girls! I asked, like any smart a__13 yr old, if I had to include my sister in that. I then got a military academy ring thump on the head with no answer needed.

Heartbreaking that people are so willing to believe the propaganda. Propaganda is the most powerful tool of any government. It pits people against each other and demonizes people as well. Your assertion is not supported by the murder demographics published by the U.S. Dept. of Justice. What you are sharing is a narrative meant to divide. The same is true for single parent households. Breaks my heart that people are so willing to believe the worst of their fellow citizens in order to somehow justify cruelty on the part of officials. In this case cruelty on the part of law enforcement. What goes around comes around be careful....

Lots of passion today! A FEW TRUTHS:
(1) A black person in America is more than 60 times more likely to be killed by a black person than a white person! (FBI Crime Report, Homicide Statistics, Table 6).
(2) BLM Cares not a whit about that fact, ONLY the few blacks that are killed by white police officers. Go to their own web site and READ IT!
(3) Every day, in America THOUSANDS of people have to decide how to respond to a police stop. (EVERY RACE) 99.9% of these people understand YOU DO NOT FIGHT PHYSICALLY. If you think you have been wrongfully stopped or harassed, there are countless legal remedies and attorneys that will represent you (pro-bono) in a heartbeat. Look at EVERY case in America that is costing billions of dollars in rioting damages. EVERY CASE INVOLVES A BLACK MAN THAT HAS HAS CHOSEN to physically resist a police officer! When you can cite even ONE EXCEPTION I will change my opinion.
4. Police in this country rightfully fear for their lives, daily! Police ambushes and outright unprovoked murders FAR OUTNUMBER all the blacks killed by police officers! If you have a modicum of common sense you DO NOT PHYSICALLY CHALLENGE someone that fears for their life!
(5) The racist BLM movement is CREATING more racists, in America, than any organization has done before.

If you look at statistics , most murders are intraracial ( same race) with FBI data from 2017 follows this trend: 80.2% of white victims were killed by white offenders, 8.9% of Black victims were killed by whites, 88.5% of Black victims were killed by Blacks, and 16.1% of whites were killed by Blacks.

True! That lady WAS harassed big time. That WAS wrong. And they were spreading possible CV droplets on her. She had a mask on. SOME people can ruin a good cause. They crossed a point of over-zealousness from which ALL of them can NOT return. Total shame. The CLOSEST ones SHOULD get civil or Criminal charges!!!!

An unarmed white person is twice as likely to be shot by the police as an unarmed black person. The difference is that the national news is 100% more likely to report the black killing. If Floyd was white, you wouldn’t even know his name, because the national news networks wouldn’t have bothered picking up his story...
This is so true. And yes more whites are killed than blacks every year. People need to check their facts...but we don’t hear about those do we? Of course not because yes in fact the media would be all over that immediately. These spoiled players deserve NO PAY and if I was the coach I would replace every single one of them. And if you did not stand for our flag then get your a** off the court. If you don’t love and respect your country then you have no right to play here. There will be no sports watched in this house!! right now all the NBA thugs are encamped in orlando, physically separated from the real world, a world they know little about. Like many posters, I haven;t watched an NBA game in years. The great majority of these thugs can do one thing and one thing only.. shoot a basketball. I could care less about their political views, which carry as much weight with me as Alec Baldwin's, Barbara Streisand or Julia Dreyfuss. The only danger of ending the season early is that they will leave Orlando and spread to all corners of the world, carrying their anti US ANTIFA message. I only hope that the COVID inspired empty seats are something that will be repeated for them for many years to come

Yes!!!! Finally a voice of reason. They is also a WNBA player that this year gave up a year of their career (and their careers ar preciously short and they worked much harder for it than an average person). ....Gave up a year of her career to devote to the Black awareness community. I could NEVER have that much compassion for my fellow man. I salute HER! One in a million! She is a better person than myself or most everybody that I have met in TV Land. She is a Saint. And also, everyone knows that Lebron James is highly respected for his giving back to his community and many causes. He is a future leader and a possible Gov. of Ohio. Doc Rivers was right to cry as he said, "We have Loved America, why does not America LOVE us back?????
Completely agree with this post.
My wife and I recently moved to the "bubble." After reading this thread I'm starting to believe some of the warnings we were given about the attitudes of many in the bubble. There are so many strong (and sometimes) racist comments made here in TOTV that are concerning to me. To add on to the above post, there are many professional athletes that give millions of dollars to their communities. They build homes, schools, community centers and much more. Do a little research before you call these athletes thugs and such. Do you not understand what is (and has been happening in America) forever? I have many friends that are black, hispanic, asian, indian, etc and also friends that are cops. Have you ever spoken to any of these people and tried to understand their lives? If so, you may feel a bit differently.

I agree many athletes give back. JJ Watt (WI boy) is a GREAT example. I'm not sure how many athletes give personal wealth... or instead get corporations to contribute. I just don't know.
Here is my issue... athletes are protesting because black people have been shot by police. The shootings are suspect. They are bringing attention to it. They are using their notoriety to put a spotlight on it.
But why aren't they putting the spotlight on all the black people who are shot (and many killed) in many inner cities (NOT by police)? Why are they not trying to reduce the violence that is happening in these cities. The police shootings are a drop in the bucket to the shootings and murders of innocent black victims every day in major cities. There is so much death and violence. Why aren't professional athletes outraged because so many innocent black lives are being snuffed out?
You can't be outraged by the police shootings of black people, and ignore the violence and death that is happening in the streets to black lives every day in our cities.

We must stop shooting Black people
It’s not about sports
It’s about taking a stand against murdering people
Yes, sports should have nothing to do with politics. When one prepares to watch a game and is met with an agenda instead, it is like when you go to a Tom Petty rock concert and get bombarded with Jehovahs Witness messages instead. Not fair!
Should be disallowed. No one has the right to hijack a captive audience for their preferred agenda, it doesn’t matter what it is.

Most athletes (regardless of race) continually address all of the deaths you mention (BLM). They are using this police brutality (where there is video) as part of their platform in an attempt to drive change.
I support the police 100%, but they must weed out the bad ones. Like any profession, you can’t turn a blind eye to those that are doing damage. In speaking to my police friends, all of them acknowledge there are power hungry and racist cops in their forces. This is a big part of the problem. I applaud anyone, including athletes, that are trying to drive a movement of change. To anyone that has not listened to some of the emotional comments made by these “thugs”, please google some of them (start with Doc Rivers, coach of the LA Clippers).
Newsflash.... For those that have been in the bubble for many years and may not be exposed to the real America, the white American will soon be a minority in this country. We all need to respect one another and live together peacefully.

I love to see you have a man twice you size on drugs knock you to the ground and you just stand up and say it’s okay because your black so I’m going to let that one go.
As a retired officers then you know the real numbers and you know that whites criminals are killed more then blacks but I guess that doesn’t fit your narrative
My friend, if you think that any police office will go through an entire career without being face to face with someone twice his size, then your are sadly mistaken. During my 28 years in law enforcement I've dealt with many that fit that description, and yes, I've had to tiussle with some of them to affect the arrest, but not one time did I need to lean on their neck until they stopped breathing, nor did I have to shoot anyone in the back.
Now regarding your claim that whites criminals are killed in greater numbers than black criminals, I'm sure that you have researched that, so I won't argue the point, except to say, that white population in the U.S. is around 61%, compared to 13% of black. It only goes to figure that white criminals are killed in greater numbers, wouldn't you think?

You are trying to support your argument by falsely associating one statistic with another. Although whites make up 61% of the population, they do not make up 61% of criminals. Black males make up 6% of the population, yet commit over 50% of the murders in this country. So, if you look at criminals and not the general population, blacks are not killed by police at a disproportionate rate.

OK to the FEW people affected by, let's say, a murder or armed robbery by a Blue collar criminal, their FEW lives are affected HUGELY, intensely. I was NOT talking about the INTENSITY of a crime. I talked about which crime affected SOCIETY as a whole - millions of people - affected by losing their wealth, not their lives. Bernie Madoff did not directly kill any person ( some of his victims may have committed suicide) but he affected the lives of thousands. That affected SOCIETY greatly. I stand by my statement that White-collar crime affects SOCIETY more. Yes, an armed robbery is more intense and more obvious. I wanted to show that White-collar crime has a much lower profile than most people think. It affects SOCIETY greatly. Another downside about it is that White-collar criminals are harder to catch and convict, thus causing MORE problems for SOCIETY. They are embedded, borrowing in deep to hurt SOCIETY. Few victems get killed by them but they affect life for many more people. Less intensity but a GREATER problem. I can see why some might disagree with me. You can look at White-collar crime vrs Blue-collar crime from different perspectives, like almost everything - ying and yang.

Very well stated and factual.

Believe you have at least one of your so called "facts" wrong. I do believe they base the salary cap in the nba at 50% of expected revenue which of course is not the same as profits.
A lot of these family men are guys who do not stay with their wives of their children leaving the women to raise the children in one parent homes with rather bad results.
NY Jets had a receiver some years ago who boasted that he had 8 children with 8 different women. How is that for a role model.

Excellent point and many black athletes do more than their share. Marcus Stroman work's with and outfits little league teams in need of gear and unis. Mookie Betts helps feed the homeless. LeBron James built a damned school in Akron for under privileged youth. Mo Vaughn who is retired helps kids get an education and built affordable low cost apartments. Lawrence Guy of the Patriots recently donated a week's worth of food to 1300 families with children who would have gone hungry.

I didn't realize so many dinosaurs were still living. Things need to change and these men and women of all colors have the platform to help bring it about. The racist comments in here about "hood rats" just show your true colors. I'm sad you're my neighbors. Just so I know who you are in public would you please where either a "if it's white it's right" tee shirt/hat or your hood and robe.
For you torch carriers beware today is "Jackie Robinson Day" in baseball. You may want to look away there will be lots of colored folk.
Reading all of the outright racist comments (and the usual racist code words and dog-whistles) in the various threads, has certainly been eye-opening. We're hoping this isn't a true representation of the majority of The Villages and that a lot of good people are simply being quiet and avoiding controversy. Then again, that is exactly why this country is in the situation it currently finds itself. I want to believe most people are good and it's time for them to stand up and be heard.
