Pro basketball teams refuse to play in protest of a racial event. Right now, it's both basketball and baseball. Not sure what will happen when football season starts.

So, are you tired of the activism in pro sports? Have you stopped watching?

You have to admit... golf continues to "fly underneath the radar." I haven't seen anyone on the pro circuit wear a "BLM" shirt. In fact, none of the pro golf players are jumping into this controversy.

I love this. They are just playing the sport they love and we just get to watch it. Sigh...

I've been a big sports fan but I'm thinking about following my favorite teams this year.

First of all, I don't follow basketball but what they're doing makes a bit of sense.

Baseball is having a major problem with games not being played because of the virus. The season is meaningless. I'm not happy about my team supporting BLM.

I'm not happy about the NFL intending to play the Black National Anthem before their games. To me that's a very divisive move when we should be trying to unite our country. They also have many key players that are "opting out" for this season again making the games meaningless. Whoever wins the Super Bowl, if there is one, should an asterisk in the record book. I've watched every game that my team has played over the past twenty or so years, except when I lived out of the country. I'm seriously considering not watching this year.

I don't watch a lot of hockey except when my team is in the playoffs. But even that is ruined because there has been no season to determine who gets into the playoffs.

I'm glad the PGA Tour is back to playing. Not having fans takes a bit away, but all of the great players are still playing and there hasn't been much mention of the protests etc. They have had people during the breaks giving their "30 seconds" worth. Of course they all have the same message.

What's a shame is that the team sports are turning a lot of people away but supporting all of this division and protesting. I got a lot of enjoyment following my teams and I'm going to miss that. But the combination of the whining athletes and the problems caused by the virus have made me rethink the whole thing.

actually all that is going on in pro sports has 'freed me' from my compulsive behavior of never wanting to miss an NFL game that the team I follow was in

so, no more having to watch Monday, Thursday and Sunday night games....last year I asleep in the chair for most of the 4th quarter anyway....oh btw, for anyone that doesn't stay up late...they don't run a 'test pattern' after midnight anymore

Who in their right mind would pay to see a golf tournament when it’s on TV?

I thought the same thing until I went to the final day of the 1999 Ryder Cup at The Country Club in Brookline and watched first hand the greatest final day comeback in history. It was the most electrifying sporting event I ever had the pleasure of witnessing and would not have been the same watching it on TV.

I have not been a fan of the NBA since the days of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird or Michael Jordan. The players today just do not make we want to get interested in the game. I am a Cubs fan, but not a baseball fan. I cannot name one player that plays for Toronto, Baltimore, or even Tampa. Don’t care. Same for the NFL, I follow the Colts but do not care about the rest. Have not missed sports all that much. The WNBA? Are they still playing?

I quit watching sports long ago. Too many thugs in their ranks that the owners and the NFL, NBA, etc. weren't willing to kick out of the profession. Great role model for the young sports fans, NOT! Don't lay out the "it's not all of them" because the good ones didn't ostracize the bad ones or demand the owners get rid of them. You are known by who you associate with.

They should be dead. Millions of people have lost their jobs. And these idiots get paid millions to play sports! Seriously!! Look what the nurses and doctors and now our police officers do. They all put their lives on the line and get paid squat! That is ridiculous! Priorities in this country suck more and more everyday. That is why we are where we are. TV NBA ratings are way down this year. Some of it has to do with the daytime games, but even the prime time ones have less than 4 million viewers. Many people just don't care anymore. The same is true for baseball. It will be interesting to see what happens when college and pro football start up.

These "Big Shot" multi-millionaires think they can do as they want without fear of being fired and accept the fines levied. If I protested Viet Nam, Attica or Kent University during my working days and didn't show up for work, I would have been fired.

In July there were Three White females and four White males killed by black males and you didn't read about or see about about these tragedies in the so-called National News. NO-ONE took a knee for these souls or burned down their neighborhoods in protest.

Well my Friends, if you see a golf cart around The Villages with signs on a cart with these names, it's me

Wow. This series of posts just brings the point that old white people don't have a clue. You are ok with a reality show host being President but black sports players can't peacefully protest against racial injustice?

au contraire, mon cher,,, no has posted players, etc, cannot protest &, as employees who belong to a labor union, they're well within their right to protest,,, no responder has mentioned race as a basis for ignoring these carjackers in shorts' future performances. responders who base arguments on race exhibit personal racism or perhaps self-imposed guilt but maybe that's just me

I stopped watching pro-football when the players would not stand for the national anthem. Where else can they make that kind of money for playing a game. Now I just think what would happen at my "regular job" had I refused to work because I was upset with something. I'm sick of the protests - do something constructive.

It is a shame that we make heroes out of many of these players, when in fact many of them are just spoiled rich kids who have been pampered since their youth. Many, but not all, are uneducated brats who went to college on a full ride not because of their intellect but because the could throw or catch a ball. Think about how sad that is when some bright young mind cannot got to school because he cannot afford to go and has no athletic ability. Why would I listen to these players? Same for many of these idiots in Hollywood. This is the advice I would give to all of them. Shut up and play ball and shut and just act because no one and I mean no one, really cares about what you think.

Golfers have to perform to earn their money and the other's don't!!!

Agreed and this is why you won't see wide spread "protesting" on the PGA. It would be the same in the other leagues if their salary relied on their play.

As to the original question. I don't think the NBA will hurt much at all. We're not exactly in their target market. The NFL has proven it has too much of a pull for enough people to turn their TV sets off. I think MLB and the NHL are taking huge risks and I'd be very surprised if this doesn't hit them deeply in the pocket book.

I'm just surprised they are willing to hitch their wagon to Jacob Blake. I don't understand how you can look at the facts of that and see that this was somehow racially motivated and that in any way he was not the person 100% in the wrong.

Pro sports are not "dead" and won't ever be "dead." Every day we get reminded that we're getting older in many ways. In this case, we (old white people) are not the demographic that pro sports target so while we may think our opinions matter - they don't and making stupid racist comments to denigrate the athletes in those sports only shows one's own ignorance and immaturity - and possibly another sign of aging as our frontal lobe "filter" continues to fail us.

I think I'll watch Sports when I feel like it. Big Games only. Remember the old days with Wide World Of Sport and Howard Cosell? Those days are gone forever.

I gave up on our teams, N.Y. Giants and N.Y. Jets. It was about a year before we moved to The Villages. I realized once we got here that the real reason we were so

into watching was the family could be together and we were WARM. Once we got here there was no way I was going to jeopardize most of the day watching either team

just to be disappointed time after time. So now because of the conditions we live under I would say that all Sports are open to me again to USE them to fill my time.

I could care less what they think or say. They are paid to entertain us by moving a Ball somewhere and doing something with it. (I have an idea where they could move the Ball butt....) Do you think they give a damn about us?

How many of the players who are Boycotting are sweating their Gigantic Mortgage Payment and Car Notes if nobody supports their sport anymore? Once they put it

together that it may affect their way of living their issues may be important to them today but will chill out once a certain date passes probably.

I don't even know the Managers Names of the Yankees or Mets. I don't know the quarterback's names of the Giants or Jets. What a shame.

The last Sport thing I really enjoyed was when the Cubs won The World Serious! Since then it's been a big NOTHING!

Sigh...

Personally I don’t care if pro basketball, baseball or football ever gets an audience or anybody buys a ticket. They think their demands will get what they want. Duh, the majority of all 3 of these sports are black. All we have to do is let these big dumb so called pro’s make demands, it’s their livelihood & money they’re losing. So if we want to let this backfire on them, stand up for 2 mins. Instead of taking a knee. Geez, these pro players had ought look around & think who are we really hurting. Pro Tennis & Golf aren’t having any problems, is it because they are just a tad smarter in their thinking. This is just my opinion & nobody has to agree. But I hope we don’t break down & give them what they want because this BLM thing will never end.

Get the story straight. He made sudden aggressive moves when he should have shut up and obeyed the officers. How hard is that to comprehend?

Apparently it is extremely difficult for some to understand. For their own safety they should try real hard to comprehend as it might save them from getting shot one day.

What bothers me about this whole boycotting thing is that they are boycotting for convicted criminals and suspected criminals. No mention of innocent people being murdered with all these "peaceful protests". I am blaming the main stream media for a lot of this BS. Hopefully people will finally discover the truth about a lot of this and it can get resolved. I am just stunned by their support of these particular "victims".

And they do not even wait for the facts to come out before thinking we will be horrified by their boycotting their games. Every one of these police actions is on someone who has just committed a crime or threatened the officers in some way.

And none of these athletes ever says do not resist or threaten the officer.

I never had to stand for The National Anthem as a condo on of employment at work EVER!
And why don’t they play the National Anthem for Professional golf tournaments!
No one is ever required to stand, it’s just what proud American’s do. Golf starts usually over a 4 hour time span and is spread out over acres. Possibly could do it with a shotgun start but the people on the far side of the course could not hear it. Not practical but if implemented I’d STAND.

Really??? Absolutely not true. 'Every one of these police actions is on someone who has just committed a crime or threatened the officers in some way" is far from the truth. Breanna Taylor, Tony Timpa, Sterling Brown, etc, etc..........did they threaten a cop or just commit a crime? I think not.

Basketball in particular is on a decline simply because of the players themselves. Most are ignorant and are clueless on what they are complaining about.

As for football not that far behind, most followers are fed up with this kneeling business, and again ignorance.

They are being paid huge amounts of money and are clueless just following the pack.

The money comes from sponsors...based on the participation from fans. Without the latter bye bye players.

Kneel, Protest, Sit Out, go ahead ..... See how long it will be before you get your walking papers.

J.J. Watt questions boos during Texans-Chiefs' show of unity: 'I don't fully understand that' (https://sports.yahoo.com/jj-watt-questions-chiefs-texans-boos-unity-anthem-protests-nfl-opener-153447664.html)

ā€œThe moment of unity I personally thought was good,ā€ Watt told reporters. ā€œThe booing was unfortunate during that moment — I don’t fully understand that, there was no flag in that, there was nothing involved in that other than two teams coming together to show unity.ā€

The fact that everyone stood, but had their arms interlocked, perfectly demonstrates to me that the supposed outrage of kneeling during the anthem was never really the issue. It was just a bandwagon that white people who refuse to acknowledge white privilege, or don't want to give it up, used to pretend it was something else besides equal justice for blacks. And lots of comments, in many threads just here, hammers that truth home.

That is a VERY RACIST remark. You are stating a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. In your case you're saying that ALL white people have privilege. The most successful group in the US by race are Asians in almost every category from average household pretax income to Educational attainment. Would you dare to suggest Asian privilege?

Bless You! blake was a bad man, --look @ WHY victim's family members called the police out. someone in the home knew blake well enough to inform police of concealed weapons on him. it's factors like these that take away from outrage over George Floyd's handling

Pro sports have been dead to me for years...they are overpaid kids and have no respect for anybody. The stupid fans who support them now are idoits. These athletes who get paid millions to ā€œplayā€ are laughing at us. They are NOT HEROES OR ROLE MODELS. They take their money to the bank and laughing at the stupid people in the stands. With COVID happening, people should realize that doctors, nurses, police, all of them deserve to get paid millions, not these sorry excuse for men who get paid millions and still cry that they don’t get paid enough. If everyone would stop supporting them or going to games, they will learn when they start losing money. Smarten up people, ignore pro sports.

Really, you need to ask that question? Watch a game and figure it out for yourself. News flash, Villagers are not a target market anywhere except the Villages. Outside of 55+ communities 25 - 45 year olds are the target market. You won’t find an add for hearing aids, walk in bath tubs, erectile dysfunction treatments, skin cancer treatments, etc.... during an NBA game.

This entire thread is not overtly political, but is at least mildly political, no?

Four sources from The Atlantic reporter, and confirmed by FoxNews reporter Jennifer Griffin with two sources. The preponderance of evidence is he said it, but I'll concede he's not on tape. He is on tape calling the former senator from AZ a loser. I understand why you cannot allow yourself to believe it. I got disappointed by HRC.

I quit watching most sports except some football over 20 years ago. Have never spent any money on sports memorabilia, or tickets. Sports players show how ignorant and self centered they are living and preaching to us yet never really confronting what caused the social injustice they rave about. To me most sports are dead and someday the very rich television contracts will slowly dry up.
