For those of you who have DISH, where is the satellite located?
Also, would we need ARC approval?
thank you

most times they want to put it on your roof... I had my dish in my back yard ... never asked for any type of approval ... if you are thinking of signing up I just ended their service and went to dircet tv because they are losing many stations... ABC has been off for about 6 weeks also the FL. sports stations are gone... no hbo cinemax and many other stations... the installer who just hooked me up with direct tv said his buddy does the dish hookups and heard they were going under

I have directv same process. The guy will check the b st spot for you , my last 3 houses in villages had direct , never asked it’s usually in back of house , I do see some ion ground, I don’t think I would ever put it there because of lawn guys . I heard that they can not turn you down , but it’s just one of those things no one cares about, if you walk or bike around you’ll see many things n back or side of roofs

I think they can't stop a dish from being installed due to federal law. A lot of dishes installed on the roof right above the utilities entrance to the house.

My dish is on a 5' pole on the ground near the A/C unit. Reception was always fine and the mowers never dislodged or bothered it.
I've since cancelled satellite but haven't gotten around to removing the dish. At least I don't need to patch the roof.

We have an unused dish as we did not continue with Dish when we moved here and previous owner had it.
Satellite company has no interest in taking it away.

Federal law prohibits the restriction of satellite dishes for cable/TV reception. Still, a good idea to check with Community Standards before installing.

We left Comcast 5 years ago and went to Direct TV. After three years of price increases and the ever present loss of service during storms, we wised up and returned to Comcast. We love the service and love the TV coverage!
I would never consider going to satellite again.

We had Dish when we lived in Va and when moving here in February planned to continue their service here and had install date.
Two days before that date an outside sales rep from Xfinity knocks on our door selling their services.
Quickly realized that by bundling TV, internet and phone we would save over $ 50 per month compared to getting two packages and Xfinity offered choice of more stations than Dish.
So bye bye Dish and we have been happy with Xfinity.

Federal law overrides any local government or deed restrictions on TV antenna placement. For satellite you need a clear line of sight south by southeast. TV antenna needs to be about 25 feet above ground level, pointing toward Bithlo Fl, where the Orlando / Daytona broadcast antennas are located. Be a good neighbor and keep the antenna on the side, or back yard or that part of your roof.

Stay away from all of them. The monthly charges were inconsistent and spending time correcting them is not fun. Compare your bills from month to month and you'll see.

We had direct tv. Installed the dish in the yard. We thought rooftop was not allowed but we have seen many installed on the roof.
We cut the cord somewhat after a year. The VHA here has a nice video about cord cutting. Currently we have internet via infinity with basic cable to get local channels. $70-80/ month.

You don’t need ARC approval and you can direct that your installation of the dish can pretty much be placed wherever you like. I had my DirecTV dish mounted on the side of the house out of sight from the street, with a new metal electrical box and no exposed wiring. I purchased the electrical box, PVC plumbing pipe and copper hold-down clamps. The DirecTV technician was happy to install the dish where I specified.
If you say nothing, the technicians will put the dish where it’s more convenient and faster for them. They pay no attention to how it may look on your house or in your yard.

Get a good internet provider and go streaming. More options for channels. Get around 100mb download speed and there should be no trouble. Stream with Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Firestick or Android boxes. Many many options and - - - it doesn't stop when it rains hard as it has here lately!! :a040:

When we converted from Comcast about 7 years ago to Direct TV which we really like
we were told that our roof warranty could be challenged if we put the dish on the roof so we had it installed in the yard and it works great. You may want to check with you insurance co if you are putting in on the roof?:ho:

Agreed. If you have internet, sattelite dishes are a waste of time. All of the streaming services (YouTube TV, Hulu Live, Philo, Sling, etc) offer free trials for a week or more. No equipment needed (other than a smart TV, Roku, or Firestick) and you can cancel anytime. Give them a try before you have some guy come over and sign you up to nail a dish on your roof.

You didn't ask, but I would strongly suggest streaming. We have Dish in The Villages and am reasonably happy with it, but we stream at our northern home and I actually like it more. The equipment charges with Dish, if you want access in multiple locations, really begin to add up. With streaming and WiFi, you can watch anywhere in your house.
My wife likes Dish because the remote makes it easier to operate, but I far prefer streaming and it's a lot cheaper. We have the high-end Roku's and have multiple streaming subscriptions, which combined are still cheaper than Dish and far, far cheaper than Comcast xFinity.

I have direct TV with Spectrum internet. You can get a great deal with Spectrum if you are a new customer, and they don't add the taxes, fees, etc. onto the monthly charge, like the others do.

My daughter in Monarch Grove has Spectrum and loves it. My son in Calumet Grove has Xfinity and feels the same about his. I went with DISH because of their lower pricing and forgot to check if they had HBO (one of our favorites)! I'm stuck without it until the contract ends next spring - and EVERY TIME IT RAINS HARD, out goes the TV. We can switch to a movie instead - but if recording a show for later watching, it too, will have totally pixelated and gone out. Had Centurylink for a few years when we moved here - but almost needed to get a mortgage to pay the ever increasing bill for it at our ages! Guess we're going with Xfinity when this contract ends, since Spectum doesn't service our area of TV (just above the Savannah Center).

we have had Directv, Xfinity and Dish....most recently Dish. The Dish location can depend on your installer. Once you know the direction it must point for the satellite, you can help guide the install location. We don't like to see it so, hubby spoke to installer and suggested a location right behind where our garage roof extends beyond our home roof and it's hidden very well. it's on the same side of the house as the cable access with clear sight to satellite. The installer had selected a spot that would have been partially visables as you drove by our home (and didn't require a ladder to install) but did finally install where we asked.

Have had Direct TV for years as we can take our receivers with us in our MH and have DTV anywhere. We have CenturyLink for Internet $45 per month unlimited data, total price no other costs and it won't go up (have had it for 3 yrs; it's now $49. Both meet our needs and we are happy with the service from both. I placed the dish on a long pole attached to my Lanai cage at one corner;it will never be blocked;installed myself.

Switched from Comcast to try Dish, stuck with Dish (contract) for 2 years. EVERY time it rained, lost signal, or even heavy clouds. Satellite sucks. Switched back to Comcast/Xfinity. Now have Spectrum. Might be more expensive but it's more reliable.

Location on roof or ground depends on the satellite direction. No ARC approval needed.

they stay with home Not if you don't want it. "Ripped" mine off when I moved in because it was an older model. Then got DirecTV and they had no problem putting up a new one. Then I cancelled DirecTV and "ripped" that one out. I worked for DirecTV for 5 years as a tech support trainer in another life and I can assure you they do not have to stay (but they will not come out to remove it without charging to do it). Better off taking it down if you subscribe to get the latest model if you have access to it.

TV viewing as we know it will be taking the route of the landline in a few years. Taken over by streaming services through high speed internet.

Switched from Comcast to try Dish, stuck with Dish (contract) for 2 years. EVERY time it rained, lost signal, or even heavy clouds. If it happened as much as you say (EVERY TIME IT RAINS) your dish needed to be reaimed. Had it for many many years and did on occasion lose signal but rarely and def not even close EVERY TIME it rained. It survived hurricane Sandy up north with maybe 15 mins of LOS and no LOS during IRMA here. I would re-aim it when I saw signal degrading and it was good again until my mower wacked the mounting pole a few times. I eventually cancelled it because I had to start paying for it as it was 90% free since I had worked for them.

can’t think of any reason for taking it down Generally not, but they are made of metal and they are usually poorly grounded by the installer. Also they aren't attractive especially if you have no need for it and they can rust (older ones) and can become a sail in hurricane winds and don't fly very stable. During our training, which was well after Andrew, we were shown (poor) installations at Homestead air base (we were DirecTV MDU providers there and a few properties in Broward) and the end results.

I went through a few killer hurricanes on coast, no problem there’s one on a house in Miami I sold to cousin long ago it’s still working, as for the way they look I don’t even notice it in back of roof . Taking it down seems to me to invite a problem where there is not one now , I hear the same thing about solar tubes which I’ve been using in last 8 homes , contrary to what people say they never leak and they don’t cause extra heat

When you remove a sat dish from a roof you leave the flat steel mounting base so there is no further roof incursion (or problems) then there was when it was installed. You are correct that if removing the base and not sealing properly can lead to issues as well as damaged shingles that can break up. Plus, since the base is generally universal it can be reused without creating further damage to the roof should one want to sub again.
