View Full Version : Should the Squares stay closed?

Should the three Village Squares open back up or should they stay closed until a proven and useable vaccine for Covid 19 is found? We are talking about crowds, live music and dancing. There are reports on unmentioned sites to be movement at the squares to indicate the possibility of some type of activity coming relatively soon. If they open we wouldn’t go anyway, but what about you? This seems to be improbable given the age and vulnerable population of The Villages. Wishful thinking on some residents part perhaps.

A woman who works in the Village's Entertainment Department posted on FB today that there is NO schedule for music to return to the squares.

Just moved into TV, leasing for 6 months to see if purchasing a home here is a desired option. Yea I am a bit sad knowing that the three village squares are in a limited use mode for now. I do know that these venues in a limited use stage should not be the primary used as a primary decision point for any future TV purchase. I am sure that eventually things will get back to normal, 6 months maybe another year?

My guess TV is trying/waiting to avoid the no win task of enforcing guidelines, hence they will wait until a desired stability is reached (what ever that means to who ever).

Most if not all medical experts (those with an actual medical degree) will tell you that avoiding large gatherings and practicing social distancing will reduce the spread of the virus and thus the number of cases and ultimately deaths. So you are advocating no precautionary measures which will lengthen the pandemic and death? This is what you want to push on everyone?
Pretty sure that Communism is not the right qualifier here. If over 50% of Americans support the precautionary measures that would be democratic no?

Don't look at our doctored positivity rate - look at the number of deaths - they are positive
My girlfriend’s father died of it in Jupiter, Florida, Sunday night. Her mother has survived the virus and is now testing negative, but it has seriously exacerbated her dementia, so when her husband of 66 years died, she said, “Oh, that’s too bad.” No tears.
This doesn’t seem serious or real until you or your loved ones get it. I know a woman whose 22 year old son got it, survived, but now may need a pacemaker due to ventricular fibrillation.
If you get it, you’ll wish you had been more careful, no matter how careful you were.

Now that the CDC has been honest and released the figures that only 6% of the deaths in this country were actually caused purely by Covid, it’s time to get past this paranoia. 94% of the people that died had 2.6 comorbidities to go with it and likely died from those comorbidities, which may or may not have been affected by COVID-19.
I moved to the villages for all the lifestyle had to offer, not to have half of it taken away from me. Open up the squares. If you’re not comfortable going to the squares then stay home. It’s that simple. For the people that are paranoid to say the rest of you have to be punished because of my paranoia is BS. I want all of the lifestyle I paid for!

The Morse. Family is still collecting money from the hotel industry as well as merchants for the entertainment in the squares. They are saving money by not paying the entertainers . Do you really think they are in any hurry to open the squares even though it is an outside venue? Other outside venues have opened such as Ocala Civic Center and the lake view Winery and done it safely so why shouldn’t the villages? Why? Because the money hungry Morse family wants to keep the money in their pockets now that they got a taste for it

That will lead to more death and disease. That pattern has followed every “opening”. There have been thousands and thousands and thousands of unnecessary deaths because people refuse to do two simple things: wear a mask and social distance. Opening the Squares would be sheer madness. To the extent numbers are low in The Villages it’s because more people than not follow this logic and behave accordingly. Everybody wants things to return to normal but it’s a deadly fantasy to want to act normal when the pandemic is still active.

Life is a risk all the time. We are exposed to germs and viruses every day. If anyone thinks I’m gonna walk around with a mask forever or never shake hands again or never attend an event because a lot of people will be there they are wrong. The death rate of this virus has come way way down and hovers jus about 2%. The regular flu deaths rate is 1%. Hope to see all of you at the squares soon.

Yesterday five people died from COVID.
The stats that are reported do not, unfortunately, specify how many victims live in TV proper. That other news site reported yesterday that two more people had died but that is in the TRI-COUNTY area (combined population almost 900,000). The site also states 347 deaths TOTAL so far in the three counties, many of which are in assisted living facilities and prisons.
I have only heard of four people dying in TV, all of whom were in their 80's. Would love to know if anyone has more accurate stats for TV.

Just looked this up. As of close 8-31-20, Florida reports 623,471 total cases with 11,103 deaths. Let’s do the math, that is under 2%. And it said that a large percentage of the deaths are people over 80 and those who had many health issues. Remember I said a large portion there are always exceptions. The regular flu kills 1% every year. We will always be exposed to viruses, germs and bacteria. We have since birth and will until we die. For the majority of us, let’s stop this hysteria already. Wash your hands, wear a mask if you wish and let’s go on with life. Life is full of dangers. My self I’ll take my chances in getting the virus knowing that if I did I have a 98.5 percent chance I will recover. See you all at the squares as soon as they open

It comes down to liability and that’s what the Morse family is all about. They don’t want to open the squares someone gets sick tests positive and then gets sued. There are a lot of people here that are from very litigious states that would sue on a fine. They’re not going to do it until they know what’s going on. For a lot of people wearing a mask downtown with Perry mask police folks watching them they just won’t go. They don’t care if you have a medical condition. Liability drives everything here so everything is in limbo.

Indeed. With the 1-800-LAWYER business so strong in FL, there would be no shortage of barristers line up to run commercials - "Did you get COVID at a Town Square? Drink too much and crash your golf cart? Did you trip over your own 2 feet? Call Dan, of Rod, or whomever...."
I just saw that owners of McDonalds franchises who were black are suing McDonalds for not having the same franchise opportunities...part of the argument was they operated in communities where insurance and security costs were higher.

I reside in a 4000 home community in PA. NO ONE has covid. The management permitted a group of us to have a get together. We stayed 6 foot apart. Drank and listened to music and yes danced !! My wife and I hung with our friends who are covid free. Some people wore masks and stayed 20 ft apart. Each to his own. We have had about 5 of these get togethers. There is just as valid information stating theAt 9600 people have died only of Covid, with no underlying problems. They. Say 160000 have died, But COVID AND underlying conditions were guilty. Please show me how many of the 160000 died of previous conditions but just happened to die with COVID instead of because of their previous condition.
The problem is, nobody knows. Read long enough and you will find what you WANT to believe.
I the mean time, let me live life and others can chose to stay home. It is a choice. As for a vaccine, how can they develop one in a couple months that supposedly protects for a year? No way possible to prove that.

For a lot of people wearing a mask downtown with Perry mask police folks watching them they just won’t go. They don’t care if you have a medical condition. Liability drives everything here so everything is in limbo.
How does anyone know where they got infected? So they go to The Square and in 2-3 weeks are sick. During the same period was the person out shopping groceries? Wal-Mart? With friends? Running errands? There is no way to know exactly when, how, or from whom the virus was received. The liability issue is nonsense.

The problem is self responsibility has gone away and we have become a nanny state.

AGREE. Open up All activities. If you dont want yo go, stay home. Those who do want to go should have the lifestyle that brought many if not most of us here in the first place: the activities, the fun, the classes, the entertainment, the music. Bring it back!!
Now that the bars are open in Florida, they should open the squares with music and dancing.
Those who are afraid, stay home.

I wouldn’t call them “afraid”, I’d call them smart.

As stated above they would be considered by many as "smart".
We all have our wants/needs relative to precautions one prefers or needs to take (or not).
To categorize those who would elect to stay home as "afraid" is incorrect (and possibly inconsiderate!).

Don't look at our doctored positivity rate - look at the number of deaths - they are positive
Yes but proven fact is the deaths are not ALL CAUSED BY COVID. These patients had other severe health problems. Keeping people away from other people is not good. We have been going out around here since March. We have not gotten sick. I work from home, when I first started 5 yrs ago. So I would get into a habit of not going out for a few days. Then I started noticing I was catching colds more often. I asked my doctor saying hey I work from home why am I getting more colds, I’m not AROUND PEOPLE. HE SAID, THATS WHY. YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM WEAKENED BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT AROUND PEOPLE ALL THE TIME!! We can’t stay locked up and we all the people in the villages and surrounding area, if there was a Pandemic..we would all be sick. I just read how the CDC had a report of a nursing home having 32 SICK EMPLOYEES WITH COIVD, IT WAS ONLY 2. Dont believe the numbers. I do medical billing for hospitals. The more you stay in, the more your immune system weakens

I agree, numbers are not what they seem. Many who work in the healthcare field were exposed to life threatening issues, but usually didn’t find out for weeks or months, Yet survive.
Big issues now many have never left their homes since March. Their immune system will have a hard time fighting off just a cold.

Open the squares and let the people make their own choices.
as to a possible lawsuit against the Morse family, how would you prove you got the virus from the visit to the square? Could be just as bad as going to Walmart or publix.

Control. I might not go to the squares, but that should be my choice, not some controlling so called leader.

So let’s break this down, about the developer worried about liability.
Since March, any healthcare worker that contacted Covid, had to take personal leave. Facilities did not take responsibility that the employees contracted the virus on the job. There was no way to prove where the employees contracted the virus. So if any healthcare facility could not prove any evidence than the developer has no worries.

50% of the population suffer from hypertension, 40% are obese and 1% have diabetes. They are all treatable. COVID continually reduces the immune system and the ability of treatment to be effective. That's why they should say died with COVID not from COVID. It's not an issue of staying home, it's an issue of being safe. I'm sure those that run businesses don't prefer that those that want to be safe stay home....they prefer a safe environment for everyone....not just those that want free stuff and have no consideration for friends and neighbors because that would interfere with their life.

The problem is if you get it you can inadvertently spread it to others.

For those who are worried about inadvertently spreading to others, getting anything from others. One can choose to stay at home until a vaccine is available.
But given ages in TV, Covid is not the only reason residents die here. If you read the paper everyday, there are many deaths and they even are printed in alphabetical order.
Once restaurants and retail, started to open, it was a choice of each individual to go, or stay at home.
I no longer keep track of how many times I was exposed to something that could do harm to my health. Sometimes worry is a greater evil

These days we do go to restaurants and can easily control distance from others.
Hard to do that while in a very crowded square.

this response makes perfect sense
Go to Fenney, live music and food. Must be worried about selling houses so give them a taste of what it’s usually like.
