WOW. Standard service. Good time to renew. Free Passport photos with AAA membership

I think the expedited service has always been a ripoff. You pay a lot of money and don't get the passport any faster.

No idea that AAA offered free photos.

Local companies around here are ripoffs for the pictures.

You can take your own passport photos with a cell phone. Just make sure you get the size correct, according to the State Department website.

After you get your photos, the passport application must be mailed in to the State Department.

Good to know, though where can you go with a U SA passport these days? Coronavirus: Where can US tourists go? Countries blocking Americans - Business Insider (https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-19-where-can-us-tourists-go-countries-block-them-2020-7?amp)

I got a free passport photo from AAA last fall (might as well after paying $80 a year for many years without needing anything else). A month later, my passport request was denied because it seems my head was not exactly facing the camera, but was at a very slight angle, like 2 degrees. AAA took another photo for me and did it right, but still, that doubled my driving time to two hours. Just a warning to look carefully at the photo. I guess the Passport Agency is being much more picky these days, perhaps because they digitize the photo for facial recognition. All told, it took me over two months to get my new passport. I didn’t pay for expedited service.

By the way, if you ever need to send your passport somewhere for a visa stamp, be careful. In 1983 my ex-wife and I were on our way to Beijing to work for a year. Our travel agent recommended that we get a Japanese visa, as we would be spending a night there. We sent the Japanese consulate in Los Angeles our passports a month before we were scheduled to leave. They lost our passports, and getting new ones and Chinese visas hours before our flight was very difficult and stressful. Our passports and visas finally were returned to us over a year later from the Japanese consulate, without apology or even a free coupon for a local sushi restaurant.

We have an office here that will take your picture and process the renewal, its on Avenue Central a block from 441. I used them and they were good.

There is only one place open for Passport Renewal in this area and that is the courthouse in Bushnell. They will do your photo for $5. They take care of sending your application. Sheriffs office on 441 no longer does photos. They told me at Bushnell that the majority of photos done on your own are rejected for improper background. Expect delay at getting passport. Most of their 12 offices around U.S. are at 10% of their workers

Hi! I am a bit confused. In your reply you said, “ We have an office.....” I’m not sure who “ we” is referring to. Could you provide more specific details? Thanks!

We did that ten years ago with a digital camera. There are photo rules such as proper background, size of the head in the image, etc. etc. The only place that had the required blank wall with enough light was in the garage with the door open. We had to do numerous takes. Fortunately, the photos passed inspection but not worth the effort.

Passports Applications At Sheriff's Office On 466 will take your picture for you and they have the application for you to fill out and they will send it in for you and let you know how long it will be to receive your passport. Unless you need right away don't pay the extra cause you can expect it in 6 weeks by doing the regular way.
And renewals are the same if you send it old passport with renewal they will send old one back with new renewal.

There is only one Passport Office that processes renewals and that is in Philadelphia. They just went to reopening Phase 2 which means slightly better than skeleton staff. Expect current processing times of 3-4 months. Anything else is a gift or mistake.

I did my passport last year. I expedite it , it took less than two weeks but this is before the virus plaque our country. We use the company near the bowling alley. I think it cost me $100 included the pictures . Don’t get me wrong the picture is more professional look than what I get at walgreens. I think you can do you renewal passport at the post office for less price. Just sharing my experienced.

I think $100 is way too much, unless it includes the cost for the passport. The photos should only cost about $10 and you can print the application from the internet for free, fill it out, and mail it in.
