Now that is subtle humor!

We moved to The Villages from the Portland area after living there for 45 years.

If it wasn't to here, we definitely would have found some place else in Florida, but not as nice. Sarasota area was on the list.

Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee were also on the list, but we no longer needed winter. If we wanted snow, there are plenty of areas to visit for a week.

Australia and New Zealand were also on the list, but to far from family.

The Outerbanks has always been on our short list. But taxes, NC leadership and healthcare (or lack thereof) are concerns.

In Florida: Anna Maria Island (if we could afford it...). St George Island also looks tempting.

We will be checking out: Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach and also the location being built near Panama City. I've been told Top of the World is nice. From everything I've been able to gather, you get a lot of bang for your buck with The Villages which is why it is a top choice.

Before we heard of TV, we checked out several areas in central FL, Ocala, Mount Dora, Clermont, Eustis. We visited On Top of the World and they wouldn't even let us LOOK at the community or homes as we were not yet 55. If I am ever able to leave TV, I would probably move closer to a military base with commissary, PX/NEX, etc. maybe Jacksonville area. I'll never leave Florida. VA benefits are too good.

We’re too old to worry about hurricanes, so we’d head for another retirement community in Central Florida. Plus no coastal living for us. We stopped beach going 15 years ago - love to swim in a big, beautiful swimming pool!

We checked out retiring in North and South Carolina, and other retirement communities in Florida - it was no contest. The Villages won out big time. We love living here in our courtyard villa with our two doxies❗️🥰 And we don’t even play golf.

Since retiring early and no hurry to sell my current home or make a permanent move to an active adult co9mmunity I have taken some time to rent or stay with friends in a few active adult communities I have been considering including Margaritaville, Citrus Hills and On Top of The World. In all the communities I have been considering I have spent a minimum of 6 months in each. I left The Villages (TV) as the final option since it’s the largest and I figured it will take the longest time to get an accurate feeling of the community, so I have a year lease.
Although I have only been in TV for a couple of months, I am not overly optimistic at this point if TV will be my final choice, reasons I will save for another discussion.

If there was no TV, from the three communities I have been to so far, neither of them I would consider as a permanent place to call home, I would just stay where I am today and travel whenever I wanted.

I went to lake miona pool the other day and the walkers were nasty asking the staff to call the police be abuse someone was swimming in their area??? They proceeded to throw water on his clothes on the deck. No it was not mine but I had trouble understanding this behavior and did not see it here before anywhere. It makes me sad.

Incredible isn't it? Though I'm not at all surprised. Gave up several years ago. All those pools in TV and you can't SWIM in any of them. It would be funny if it wasn't so ridiculous. Can't find lane times at sports pools and if you try to swim at an adult pool, you get dirty looks or worse!
So sorry you witnessed such mean, boorish behavior. Unfortunately, it is all too common.

Never understood the naming of the pools in TV.
Only swimming pools I have known where swimmers are not welcome, banned, or given the minimal ammount of room, and if you digress, the verbal abuse a swimmer receives is unbelievable!
Walkers? Talkers is more apt, are the curse of the pools.

In our neighborhood pool we have these ladies who keep walking across the pool in twos and threes and do not even think of taking their space.

They make it rather hard for those of us who would actually want to swim in the pool.

I never wanted to live in TV. Hubby liked it ever since we first visited in 2008. I would rather have been a little closer to the gulf coast and farther south ... somewhere between Ft Meyers and Sarasota. I would rather a condo or attached home where someone else is responsible for lawn maintenance. Since we are here tough, its really more about the lifestyle than anything. I am hoping once COVID is under control that life could return to a more robust social life

I lived in Sarasota for five years in the 80s and loved it. The only thing that I don't like about The Villages is being so far from a nice beach. We used to take a fifteen minute drive out to Siesta Key Beach several times a week.

I would also think about moving to Clearwater Beach or even further south near a beach that I could go to in the winter.
