View Full Version : New to TV.....Auto mechanic/repair shop recommendations?

New to The Villages and my tools are still in boxes, so I am not quite set up to fix a problem that has developed on my Mustang. Either the gasket at the thermostat housing or the intake manifold gasket is leaking coolant. The coolant is burning off before it drops to the ground, but I have to repeatedly fill the reservoir. I need to get it fixed before it gets worse.

Since I can’t yet fix it myself, I need to take it to a reliable and reputable garage. Since TOTV subscribers always give good information, I figured I would ask here for recommendations.

Thanx in advance.

Just DO NOT use TIRE CHOICE near Colony and other places! Never needed a repair place but Sumter Tire on 301 was excellent for our basic maintenance needs.

Ditto for Wildwood Tire & Auto!! Always fair with both estimates of work needed, and pricing. Have often been told "you don't need" this or that, or not at that time.....and problem was resolved for less time & expense than expected. Very personable, family operation.

Strongly recommend NAPA on 441 just north of the Walmart, phone 352-307-6210. Supervisor is Doug. Have had everything from oil changes to full transmission replacements. Started because Tire Choice near Colony gave me a price for all strut and alignment (which was needed), but price was high. NAPA quoted and did the job using the identical parts for 60% of the price. Have used nobody else for 7 years. I was also convinced I had a major problem and they found a minor issue and fixed it for free.

Michaels did a great emergency fix for us. Was recommended by AAA. Also found Sumter Tire on 301 to be very accommodating.

This a locally, family owned and run business, providing most all maintenance, repair and upkeep to your automobile. The business thrives on ethical practices and is certainly competitively prices. A definite plus for their approach with ethics is their communication with women who may not be familiar with the auto's problem or suggested solution to remedy the problem. They will explain in understandable detail what is wrong and what they recommend to correct the problem and outline the total price for the job. You will have confidence that you and your car are in good hands.

They have a 5 star rating, which is hard for an auto repair facility. They are honest and their prices are fair.

I take my German car to Accurso in Oxford. Way cheaper than the dealership in Gainesville, used OEM parts. My American truck goes to Sumter Tire in Wildwood, in the 6 years I've been here I've never heard a bad word about them. They do everything, not just a tire place.

Call Bobby at Accutech 352-748-1500. He is located on RT 301 a little south of RT 466. Last year he replaced my crankshaft in my 1990 Miata -- no problems -- he's honest, too!

Good luck.

Quality Tire was highly recommended to me but the only number I can find 362 753 8462 is disconnected.

Be very careful ! They like to tell you that something needs to be done that isn’t. As far away from TV less expensive and not a target

I agree, Accurso Auto. Off of Rt466, behind Bargains and Treasures. They display a big NAPA sign. Most honest and reasonable, plus professional auto shop I have ever used Been going there for several years with no complaint and never had to bring my vehicle back a second time for the same problem.

I agree with prior recommendations. Sumter Tire, 707 S. Main St, Wildwood. They are just south of RT 44a. I haven’t used them to work on my street rod yet but they did work on my GMC Very pleasant, professional & fair price. They had a few classic cars in the shop when I was there.

Hutson Automotive in Fruitland Park is very honest and reliable with reasonable prices. They service the Villages vehicles, city vehicles. They have been there for about 30 years and a family business. I swear by them. All their mechanics are certified.

While we’re talking about care maintenance, any referrals for A/C tune up? ( vac The system Check for leaks with detector, add oil and refill?) nothing wrong with my A/C but it 6 years old and I want vac, refill. IMO takes about 6 to 8 years for refrigeration to get low and effect cooling or stop cooling.

If you are "repeatedly" filling the cooling system you may be simply replenishing the fluid lost due to expansion. Wait twice (or three times) as long between refills and see if it takes twice (or three times) as much to refill. That's a simple test which may save you tons of money on diagnosis and unnecessary "repair" costs.

Great work professional reasonable

My 2008 Honda CRV had a problem with heat (wasn't getting any). The temp on the dash looked good, the fan worked, in fact sometimes I would get heat but not other times.
After "Googling" it, I thought that the Blend Door Actuator was bad, but after looking how to replace it I decided I didn't want to do it myself. I asked around and someone suggested Boulevard Tire.
I brought it to them and told that I really thought the Blend Door Actuator was bad. The told me they charge $115 for "Diag". SO thinking I was in good Hands I dropped it off.

A little while later they called to say that the determined that the thermostat was bad. I again suggested that the blend door actuator was bad and could they at least listen to hear if it working, they said yes. They called back and said they could hear the actuator so that it must be working and they wanted to replace the thermostat, I said OK.

Well, a little while later they called back to say the they still weren't getting "enough" heat they had to order the blend door actuator and would get it the next morning.

Went to pick it up, total charge $519.65!

Can't help but wonder why they didn't go the cheaper route first and replace the door (cost $90.80), like I said it was mostly to be the problem?

I'm someone that has worked on many cars over my life, so I know what I was talking about.

Would I recommend Boulevard Tire? Maybe not.
