Hi Villagers. I am a recent widower snowbird and will be returning to my home in Amelia Villas in about two weeks. The long lonely drive down from L I is something that I dread.

During Jan thru June I had my car in the Vlgs and like most of us, hardly used it. I doubt I drove 100 mi.

I was thinking of flying down to the Vlgs and was wondering if I could "privately" rent a car from someone from about SepT 20th thru Nov. I have no idea what a fair price would be. Nor do I know the insurance ramifications. I probably could get by without the car but I always like to have a car available to me.

My driving record is impeccable. I have never had a ticket or accident. I do not drink. The car would be used for the occasional social visits to friends in the Vlgs who may be too far to drive a golf cart.

I don't even know if this is legal. Look forward to any thoughts or replies..

Why not just rent a car , there are very nice deals you use your own insurance, it’s not a large cost . Private owner to complicated . That is done in big cities but it’s part of a group thing . Well good luck ,have fun here , but for me I wouldn’t want to drive some strangers car

That was my first thought. Then I checked my Uber app and didn't see any little cars moving around on the map in TV. Checked other areas and don't see any cars. Uber is up and running these days, right? How could there be no cars in big cities around the country? Or did they change the app so it no longer shows the locations of the cars?

If there are Uber drivers in TV that would be the easiest solution, I think, as well.

I understand how you feel, I like my wheels too, always have. Any auto rental and many car dealers will lease you a car for 6 weeks. Hertz had charged me about $200/week. 6 weeks probably $1000 I'd guess, which seems a lot for what little you'd drive.

If a person has a regular auto insurance policy, there is an exclusion of any coverage if you rent your car out. I would be surprised if someone would rent you their car under those circumstances.

I think there is a taxi service here. If not, then as noted above, you might want to try Enterprise or a local car dealership.

Uber is running. There is just not enough demand to make it worthwhile for drivers to be stationed in the Villages. If you request an Uber you will most likely get a driver you will probably have a longer wait time.

No one likes the long lonely drive down here, take an extra day and make it more relaxing and then you will have your car and whatever stuff you want to bring that you can't put on a plane. The older I get the more I hate driving but I do it.
