"First you must release us from liability. If we send a social worker and your boyfriend winds up hurting or killing you we cannot be sued by you or a family member".
Using people trained in social issues would be great, however, who decides when that is the appropriate course of action? Last I heard there are no mind readers. No one knows the extent of the problem until they get there. Ever heard of the saying, "hope for the best but be prepared for the worst". Hey Stu, since your from the Big Apple, you certainly had opportunities galore to also help your fellow citizens, please share with us what those were.

Off the top of my head worked in a soup kitchen helping to prepare meals for homeless, worked for Score, worked for Feeding America.

Back in my college days did my share of very peaceful protests.

The assumption is that it is all drug related and may not be so. The statistics indicate that minorities are the vast majority of the victims die at the hands of criminals not the police. And, in fact, many cities have already defunded the police, who by the way are better trained than most people in dealing with potentially violent criminals. I will like to see your comments when social workers start being killed in their trained capacities in “social issues.”

I shop for my neighbors- take people to MD appts- have weeded a yard when their away for summer- I’ve been a friend listening to their stories and problems- I give back with a yearly village party to keep people together- I have volunteered my whole life- in a hospital for Girl Scouts , big brother / big sister( 4 black children my kids) I smile and don’t throw bricks at a store I don’t like- I support my community. I could go on but these things everybody can do and most of the people reading this already do.

I find it interesting that in several of the posts, we get the same mantra that by defunding the police we are making them better. By defunding the police we are using the money for social services, etc. Why defund the police at all? If you need money for Social Services, then just budget for it. Isn't that the liberal way?
