I hate my modern Samsung washing machine!

Our Samsung front-load does not have "a water level" because it does not fill up with water.


If we want, we can change a cycle without draining.

In TV I have the latest GE top loader, works very well and matching gas drier. I had to replace the ones that came with the resale. Couldn’t be happier. My pool towels dry within minutes. Up north I have Miele washer and drier, front loader and WiFi etc. also works very well, you never have to iron anything if you set the drier correctly. But Miele is fussy, it likes to use only Miele products, and the drier has two different types of filters for the drier etc. but it treats my clothes so well that I put in the effort.
Hubby has figured out how to use the Miele. He loves it so much he uses it everyday since Covid. He likes the freshness of his clothes. Previously he used the washing machine once a month, or when I was ill.

Tell her to use tongs when you are not there to help. The large drum in my GE can take a king size comforter, but I have to get on tip toes to pick up stuff on the bottom.

Smart wife!!! We have a +30 year old Kenmore up North.....runs forever. When we purchased our new one for TV, they said we will be lucky to get 10 years.

Kenmore, hands down. And yes we have the super-sized top-loader as well and yes I basically have to lift my feet off the ground when I bend to reach the bottom near the back of the barrel to get that last sock that clung to it. But Kenmores are the VW Bugs of washing machines. You can't kill them.

Not that I was in the market for a new washer/dryer.....but I did notice the drums on the top loaders are so deep. I could not reach the bottom and I surely could/would not bother my husband every time I need to do laundry. Those top load machines are out for me. I'm very happy with my front loader with no agitator.

The tree huggers and green earthers I have decided that front loaders are better for our world. They use a tremendously less amount of water and the modern ones also will spin faster so that your dryers don't use as much electricity either. You really should read your instructions and learn how to use the small settings and the button for type of load and how dirty it is

Before we start our newer top load LG, we wet the clothes down to add weight to the load. This tricks the automatic water level and puts an ample amount of water in the load. Learned this from many blogs ranting about poor water levels in these new wash machines. Be happy, it is all a part of the "Green New Deal".

Speed Queen is the only washer brand we found that gives up to a full tub of water.

Speed Queen didn't have great ratings, so I went with GE top-load. I set the water level one level higher than the amount of clothes. It took a while to figure it out. Usually I start the cycle and when fill stops I check the level to the clothes. If it needs more water I can adjust a level up and the machine restarts with additional filling. Also, you have to set for rinse level for full rinse (mine says to use when using fabric softener which I don't use). Repairman said otherwise you get only a spray rinse, not a full rinse. Be sure to use less detergent--if you have a lot of suds you have too much soap.

I had a Samsung, also, and was so glad when it broke, and I had to buy a new one. I will never buy anything Samsung again, because everything breaks down in a short time.
I bought a GE at Best Buy for under $600 with an agitator and no fancy Computer settings on it. The best part was that I could operate it, Instantly, without even looking at the manual. One tip is do not pour the fabric softener into the agitator, even though it says you can.

I also hated my washing machine that gave me no choices. So I went to Lowes told the salesperson i want the least expensive washing machine that I can control. I ended up with a Samsung where I decide not the machine. Here is the model # WA40J3000AW. I love it. I can add more clothes if I forgot a piece without the machine resetting itself. I can see water when I open the machine. Good luck.

You will get all sorts of recommendations here. When we moved here 11 yrs ago, all we wanted was a machine that got our clothing clean. Nothing fancy ie. the new-fangled ones. I, for one, don't like the front-loading kind (our daughter has one) as it was hard to bend with my bad back. So far, our Hotpoint basic top-loader is still working. All we've had to replace is the dial. We got ours at Appliance Direct in Fruitland Park. IF we ever replace it I'll not get a Samsung.

We bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer from DeSantis in Wildwood and love it. Got the middle of the three models available which has no electronics and works like a charm. It is a top loader with an agitator. It also has an extremely quick wash cycle.

Recommendation, get rid of all your Samsung appliances. If you are just buying a new home in the villages, trade out all the Samsung appliances. They are nothing but trouble and are very cheaply made. If you’ve ever had top appliances in the home you were in, downsizing does not mean poor quality Samsung appliances in your new home in the Villages.

Ten years is about right. A few years ago I replaced all my appliances. I asked the salesperson what the life expectancy of the new appliances were and he told me ten years. He told me that compared to the appliances that we use to buy thirty years ago the appliances today are “junk”. The reason for this is that in order to meet federal standards for energy efficiency the manufacturers had to decrease the size of the motors that run them. Today the motors are a third the size and weight of the motors that use to be put in appliances.

I would assume all appliances break down quicker then they did years ago. They make them so cheaply that it is not worth a large repair, otherwise, how would they sell you a new one? Water will be the next crisis. A front loader uses very little water and detergent. I love my LG.

I have an LG front loader. It has a button for Water Plus. That adds extra water to the load.

We got rid of our Samsung and bought both a Speed Queen washer and dryer. Speed Queen is rated, by far, the most reliable brand by Consumer Reports. They do thousands of hours of testing on them and don't use all the fancy electronics that always fail on the Samsung ans similar machines.

I would go on Craig’s list find old Maytags made around 1996-2005 they have no circuit boards simple parts last forever. Should have kept mine too they all suck

I don't know why it's so important to me to see that these people conquer the Washing Machine Problems they have but unless you have experienced the aggravation of this unidentifiable stank it's very hard to describe and not be too dirty for the Forum. If I could have a Freebie, Forum Wise, then I could describe the smell clearly in one sentence.

It stinks living with an appliance that you don't care for. I just took a chance on a Samsung Stove. I went against Consumer Reports.

Yikes, it was expensive and we were planning on SP lasting a long time. If we move to the villages to be snowbirds, we will buy a cheap one. And eventually will bring our speed queen to be with us in the villages once we sell our home north.

My mothers Kenmore that she bought in the 1960's worked until 2000! They could not repair it so they replaced it.....that replacement was still running perfectly 20 years later when I left it up North when I moved in June....wish I would have brought it with me!!!

My daughter just bought a GE top loading washer and gas dryer combo with an agitator and a soak cycle. Loves it. Make sure the spin rpms is sufficient to dewater the type of clothes you wash. Jeans and denim require a rate over 900 to do a good job. Top loading washers may allow a soak cycle. Front loading washers often have a higher rpm spin cycle. I soak and pretreat in a bucket. Darn singing Samsung.

OMG I want one. Darn there goes all the $$$ for a less than year old Maytag. One last question, can YOU set the amount of water YOU want in the tub ? Like if you want to just fill it, like a bathtub, LOL, and soak things in the water, can you do that ? Lowes and HD did not have one when I was looking.

I purchased an LG washer a year ago. It had a good agitator. I can set my own water levels or use the auto Water setting. It does everything the old washers used to do. I really like it.

Had front load Samsung in NC, washer lasted 4 years before inner tub collided with outer tub and starting smoking. Repairman said, most complicated fix of the washer, would need to remove from laundry room and put in front yard to repair and would cost $1000. Bag that...Bought a Speed Queen -- 5 year warranty!

Samsung dryer died around a year later -- bought a Speed Queen -- 7 year warranty!

If I had SQ from the start, both would have been repaired under warranty.

Love our SQs, so we brought them down here. When we built we said, we don't want those Samsungs...they stink! We don't care that we paid to have them moved. Well worth it.

I am getting an appliance warranty after 1 year mark. Only Samsung products worth a darn are their TVs.
