View Full Version : Sharon Morse/No Consideration

I assisted an elderly woman today at the Sharon Morse bldg.. she had forgotten her mask and she was rudely reminded that she could not enter the bldg. Not possible to provide a mask for her. Even Target will supply a mask to those in need. I later learned another individual received assistance from a passerby who tried to find a wheelchair for her only to learn none available. To make matters worse, the parking lot shuttle is no longer. Really sad to think of those living here in this portrayed picture perfect friendliest hometown and see them struggle while no consideration is shown or provided! The Villages ought to be Ashamed & Embarrassed by this!!!

I fully understand your compassion for this lady in need. Un fortunately, she did not come prepared. If you have an appointment at ANY medical facility in TV you HAVE to be wearing a mask or you do not get in. I got thrown out of the bagel shop because I had left my mask in the car and walked in without thinking. Right now the mask is our only protection. We have extras in the car and extras at home.

Sharon Morse Building has nothing to do with one's age, it is the facility where all the diagnostic testing and doctors offices are located.

At sometime one must take responsibility for their own actions. Sharon Morse Medical is just a name on building Medical Offices are leased it’s not The Villages response-ability to be a nanny state for everyone. Masks have been required in medical facilities since March.
If elderly want to grow old WEAR A MASK!

Nope. I went to the bagel shop and entered behind a senior lady who forgot her mask. The shop gave her one. Went for an appointment with Villages Health. No mask? They give you one. Whoever coordinates access to Sharon Morse should know better. Cheap.

I agree with you and the OP. Spot on in my opinion. Any medical facility should be equipped to supply a mask when anyone (of any age) forgets his/her mask.

Understand, do not take out frustrations on people working the front desk (anywhere). Perhaps she seemed short because she had just dealt with someone coming in that was rude. It happens. These people only work there and do the job as they are instructed which should not include verbal abuse towards them.
When there are not enough volunteers to do the shuttles, then they can't run. They have not been able to get enough drivers. The hospital does not share their shuttle for the Morse Bldg. There used to be 5 wheelchairs available at one time, now there are 2 as, apparently, 3 have disappeared. There was none available at the time the lady needed one because the two were already in use.
The wearing of masks is new to so many and it could be that the lady who forgot hers is not out that often and had too many other things on her mind or perhaps a bit of dementia? Compassion works for everyone, not just a select few. Let's all try harder to be more understanding and less judgemental. I have to remind myself all the time. I have developed the habit of having an extra new (still in the sealed packet) mask in my purse in case I encounter someone in need of one for whatever reason.

Maybe this nice old lady is protesting wearing a mask and since most stores will let her in without a mask she assumed they would let her in. The Villages is not assisted living, there are facilities here if you need that, when personal responsibility goes away, blame the Developer. I keep a pack of disposable masks in the car and golf cart. How did she get to the building? Assume she drove.

Glad to hear that you cared enough to help an elderly lady
we've walked up to the door of a retail store a few times and realized one of us had forgotten their mask and returned to the car to fetch it...no big deal It takes 21 days of consistently doing the same thing to create the simplest of new habits....many of us aren't putting ourselves in situations 21 days in a row requiring a mask
Doctor's offices had a lot of masks and rubber gloves stolen when this pandemic first hit...yes here in TV...so they're not about to give them away now
Good to know that Target will give you a mask....thanks for sharing that

Hard to believe people would sink that low to steal masks and gloves. Can understand perhaps taking one of each but multiples that is terrible.
Been more than once that one of us had to go back to the car to get the mask we forgot but we will always do so.

Solution: We keep our masks everywhere, so there's always one close by. If she carries a purse--and what woman doesn't--why didn't she have more than one in it (just in case she "forgets")? We're all in this together; which includes those who don't wear masks.

Though I can feel for her, masks are required and have been for a long time. I doubt it was rudely told to her but rather firmly since many probably try to get in without one. No where is it required that any place should provide masks to those who forgot one. I have several in my car and one hooked to each of my bags so I wont forget. The shuttle hasnt been around for awhile (not sure how long). No surprise there. Im sorry to sound unfeeling but if you definitely need a shuttle or a wheelchair, its your responsibility to make sure it can be provided. You cant expect all things you need to just be provided

There is no way to social distance in the parking lot shuttle.
I was volunteering at the Villages hospital as a shuttle driver. A lot of people used to park in the Hospital parking lot and we would Pick them up and take them to the Sharon Morse building, Sharon Morse discontinued their Shuttle service on 12-31-2019 followed with a letter to the hospital that the hospital shuttle was not allowed into their property, all the drivers were issued instructions not to take anyone to the Sharon Morse Building.
I am no longer driving because of the Villages Hospital wanted all volunteers to sign a document exempting the U of F The Villages from any type of lawsuit or litigation from the volunteers. I had the document looked at by a lawyer friend and he told me that if I signed, I was foregoing all my rights and was crazy to sign it. No longer volunteering there. There is not enough parking at Sharon Morris building and the Villages that own it don’t seem to care. By the way in my 75 years in this Earth, I have never filed a suit, or gone to court on one.

At some point, people need to take responsibility for themselves. Masks have been required everywhere for months. Nothing new. We are adults, not children. Why expect others to provide for you and when they dont, they are made to be the bad guy

It is our own responsibility however, people forget their cellphones and wallets and masks when they go out. Masks are cheap and having some on hand for customers who forget, isn’t asking too much.

I live far closer to the mammogram facility at Lake Sumter but choose to go to the one at the Sharon Morse. We have been treated kindly and equally by the staff at both places, but my daughter and I love the folks at the Sharon Morse. After you have the test if you look at them imploringly, not saying a word, if everything is fine, they smile and wink. Always a relief.

Japan has almost no problems with CV. They have a citizenry that understands medical science. They are smart enough to have at least 95% compliance with mask wearing. It is the same in Australia, New Zealand, and S. Korea. The US is a dumb, science-denying country. We are OUR own problem. Look around you and you will see less than 50% mask useage here in TV Land. And we are the older population that will pay with our LIVES in greater numbers. The US had a 15% increase in CV cases in the last 10 days. It will keep getting worse. There is no vaccine riding in on some white horse. Anyway, it is known that masks are MORE effective than the vaccine will be when it finally gets here, which could be years from now. Trust medical science and NOT what you hear on select TV channels.

In addition, if every place had reserve masks on hand, people would never remember and would sponge off the shops, offices, and resturants. It is not their responsibility, it is ours.....all of ours. Carry extra masks in your car and golf cart....then if you see someone who actually forgot, you can be that generous and helpful Villager and give them one of yours.

This nice Elderly lady was not protesting anything! She genuinely forgot her mask. She attempted to use a tissue.. not permitted. All she wanted to do was get to the 2nd floor to hopefully locate her husband at his appt. No one was expecting or asking or wanting it to be Assisted Living.
Bravo to you for keeping a pack of disposable masks in your car & golf cart.. obviously this nice lady doesn’t and she needed one!
I didn’t ask her if she drove....what is your point regarding that? She stated she had dropped her husband at the front door.. when I encountered her, she was struggling, had walked using her walker from a distant parking spot. Like I stated, no compassion!

Unfortunately you did not include this information in your original post, it changes everything and I am sure you would not have received negative posts had we been aware of what she was going through.
I, too, know what it is like to search the area for a parking spot and then have to slog over to the Sharon in the heat and I do it on two good legs, not a walker. She was indeed treated shabbily.
