I had the carburetor cleaned last year and problem persisted so had carburetor replaced.

Who diagnosed the cleaning of carburetor and replacement?

I had a similar problem where the engine occasionally would quit. It was diagnosed as a problem with the starter switch. The switch that starts the engine when you press on the gas pedal and kills the engine when you take your foot off was bad. Willie's Golf Carts replaced the switch and we haven't had that problem since. Just something to think about.

I agree check the switch, I just found a problem with 2017 Yamaha BRAKE switch, the lights would go on with lite pressure on the brakes, then if additional pressure was applied, the lights would go out! If the same type of switch (or a similar design) you might have a similar problem.

Mine became erratic and I took it apart, cleaned the contacts, and stretched the internal spring a little bit so that there was firmer electrical contact. No problem since.

I would say you have a fuel problem, are you using non ethanol? If not the fuel will deteriorate the fuel line therefore emitting particulate into the fuel going to the carburetor and causing power fluctuations.
You might consider using some fuel additive it can be purchased at any automotive parts store or walmart

My vote, too... my Yamaha when newer had two failures of this switch. The most serious was pulling out into traffic gap on Morse from mail station and cart died right in middle of the two lanes. On third switch now for 5 years or so...no further problems.

do we use ethanol gas OR non ethanol gas in these things ????????? i've been using ethanol laced gas

Try draining the gas tank and putting new gas in it = it sounds like water in the gas tank.

After 7 to 8 trips to the village cart garage in Brownwood they finally replaced my starter and it doesn’t happen anymore They replaced belts before that worked for awhile but came back. They even went as far as replacing my battery and that didn’t help. Just beware

After 7 to 8 trips to the village cart garage in Brownwood they finally replaced my starter and it doesn’t happen anymore They replaced belts before that worked for awhile but came back. They even went as far as replacing my battery and that didn’t help. Just beware
This is one of the best reasons to stay away from Villages Golf Carts for repairs.

I use a product called Seafoam, at any auto part store. Cleans all fuel lines. Awesome product, but read directions.

If it is running and suddenly seems to die or slow it might be a bad fuel pump or a plugged fuel filter.

Sounds like a fuel filter or fuel pump!! Possible loose electrical but not likely.

You have received good suggestions! Usually but not always fuel will show other signs of spit n sputter, sea foam is great. For small engines I use high octane no ethanol. But switch, electrical wire, loose connection, battery n connection, I also had kink in fuel line. Get it checked out by a good mechanic n establish a relationship with him/her. Might be great to do!

To answer your first question, YES Willie's does come to your home and does both annual service (eg oil changes, etc) and repairs. I have found them to be honest, reliable, and fair in their pricing.

To the 2nd part of your question, I have I have no idea what the G numbers mean but I suspect Willie would know.

The G number is the model series of the golf cart. I think the Yamaha "Drive", at least the first models, are G29.

Really not fair to put out a blanket statement like that from a business that services 50,000 golf carts a year from their 3 stores. If they were bad like you say they would not be doing that much business year after year. Please be careful what you say.

Those are the model names for the Yamaha carts. Current models being made now are the G29

I think it has to do with the gas gauge. It may not be reading correctly. Does it do it when you go up/down from a hill?

Fuel problems are seldom instant and seldom recover and then happen again. Electrical problems can be instant and recover instantly only to do it again. For instance if a fuel pump quits it takes awhile for the fuel level to go down and the power will drop of as the engine leans out. I always tell my guys to do all the things that are overdue anyway. A plug never hurts and they are cheap. A fuel filter never hurts and they are cheap. Same way with air filter. If the engine dies instantly it is usually lose of spark. A coil can get hot and do that and recover when it cools but the advice you have been given on the switch sounds most likely. I have replaced the switches before and they are not too bad to get to and replace. They are available on Amazon with part numbers to insure correct parts.

Had a similar problem with my Yamaha when it was brand new. It was driving the dealership bonkers. It would run fine to the golf course. I would check in and return to the cart only to fine that it would not start. After the fourth time into the shop and just inches away from getting a new replacement cart, a new mechanic took a look at it and diagnosed the cooperate. I turned out to be the wiring to the fuel pump. the wire fittings were epoxied to the wire instead of solder. As the cart ran for awhile, the fitting would expand and lose wire contact. A new fitting was installed and have not had an issue since. The cart was a new 2016.

My problem was a pinched fuel line hose, on the engine-side of the gas filter. Very difficult to notice.
