Social distance compromised. How about a salute, maybe you've got a better idea?

Social distancing is designed to help protect you from someones sneezes or coughs. Unless their elbow/forearm have come in contact with someone/thing carrying/having the virus it should be no issue. If it bothers you just say hello, goodbye or whatever.

on the golf course, we typically touch our putters to each other. That's pretty safe.
But a week ago, my putter may have gotten a touch of COVID. From that point on I've missed some easy putts. I think my putter has been coughing during the hit...damn. I may need to quarantine it.

They ask you to cough onto your elbow, but to welcome each other they say touch elbows. Who's the nitwit that comes up with these ideas...... :ohdear:

there's two sides to everything
you cough into the inside of your elbow....they're recommending that you 'touch elbows' using the opposite side of the elbow rather than shaking hands
if you are uncomfortable touch elbows, don't do it....or just motion with your elbow like you're going to touch elbows but don't touch....nobody's going to care if you don't actually touch their elbow

I’m very comfortable bumping elbows and if you extent your hand for me to shake it I would shake it back. And I’ll sleep very well that night.

Touching elbows a stupid way to greet, just let your voice do the greeting!
This picture shows why after coughing or sneezing onto your elbow does not go hand in hand with touching elbows to greet someone...

My putter was afflicted also , I buried it in the bunker on #2 Oakleigh.

As a vet I like the salute as a military or paramilitary gesture. A fist bump keeps you 5-6 ft apart and uses the cleanest part of the hand.

Whats the big deal about greetings?? Im a hugger but have stopped that for now. My greeting is: to motion throwing a kiss and saying, “I owe you a hug”. How about people use common sense and make up your own greeting

I agree. It’s not that the bumping of elbows is likely to give you the virus or share it, but really, what is the sense! And for that matter, why in the world do people bump fists? It reminds me of boxers bumping fists before an attack.
I’m not very fond of shaking hands, either. Some men see it as an opportunity to express their desire to dominate, and that hurts. Let them do that with each other, but not with me. I’m a man who makes music with his hands and who does delicate repairs and writes books. So I already know I’m the alpha male in most groups. Don’t try to challenge me.
I used to work in Rwanda. There, when men and women shake hands, it’s almost like a caress. They slide their hands together and delicately clasp. It’s quite sensual. When I shake hands with people with small, delicate hands (generally women), I try to be very gentle. With men, a firm, dry handshake with no attempt to cause pain. But of course, these days, shaking hands is out of the question! At its best, though, a handshake is a sort of symbol of trust and acceptance as well as greeting. But it’s not very sanitary.
When we were little, hugging was rare. For the past decade, it seems like women I know or barely know tend to want a hug. That’s nice, though it surprises me. As for air-kissing, what silliness! “Mwa!” indeed! Ridiculous. Again, these are no longer done.
So, like you, I just keep my distance, nod, raise my hand and expose my palm to show I’m not armed and mean no harm. Why this weird need to touch?

Have you tried coughing onto the outside of your elbow lately? How about touching the inside of your elbow to another’s when greeting them?

Your only option is to chip in - and avoid putting

Totally agree. The stupidest thing to "prevent" Covid transmission. Smile and wave will do for me.

Go ahead and shake hands. Then use hand cleaner. No biggy.

Eye contact, "nice playing with you", and a head nod should do the trick.

I saw (via newsclip in Canada) a foot tap which I liked, however, in our flipflop state of Florida, that probably wouldn't work too well. But it is a cute idea.
