Many have been disturbed by the little white crosses placed on lawns. Today I was leaving our neighborhood and saw three separate yards with Jesus 2020 signs in their yards. I am not an atheist but these signs are a little tacky to me. One yard had three signs across their lawn. Has anyone else seen these signs in their neighborhood?

Well, then you are going to have to make a decision as to whether or not you’re going to make a complaint with the Community Standards.

And, no, haven’t seen those in my neighborhood.

No, I think they are against our covenants.

Well, just whine and complain about it on this forum and they will disappear.

This is an election year and political signs are allowed. Apparently, this person would prefer a “Write in” candidate.

One of the reasons I love it here is how all the yards look so well kept. I have a friend who is considering moving here just because where he lives is not that way. It gives a great impression of the villages and keeps YOUR home value up.

The deed restrictions say nothing but plants should be in your front yard. Please keep it that way !!

Once the door is opened to an exception, Pandora’s box will be opened and voila, trailer park, because not everyone has good taste.

I have not seen Jesus 2020 signs but white crosses on my street like 6 of them. They are not big , just like putting a turtle or bird statue in your yard but you don’t like white crosses, it’s choice. You would not like whole Village area I live in. Many yard statues on everyone yard.

You are missing the point. It is not the cross's it is the creeping moves to override the Deed Restrictions and the question is then " WHERE DOES IT STOP". I have actually no sympathy for the residents who decide to try to destroy the Deed Restrictions they signed up for when they purchased in The Villages. The same ones who have cross's in the yard are the ones who "Lied" when they signed off on their Deed Restrictions commitment's. Kind of ironic??:ohdear:

I think they are totally inappropriate, not everyone who lives in The Villages are Christians. I am a non Christian and I find that stuff offensive.
I don’t understand why they think it is so important to display their religious views. I guess they think it makes them a better “Christian” by sticking their religious stuff out in the yard.
Be whatever you want to be, but keep it to yourself.

They are an expression of a persons belief. After all we have been thru during this epidemic people need something to hold on to. That is Faith that times will change for the better. Don’t take that away by filing a complaint. Just drive by and be thankful for another day.

Obey the rules, what is so hard about that? If signs are not allowed, do not put them up. If you want to do that, move to a place that allows it.

Rules are rules... You sign a contract with The Villages accepting that you will adhere to the deed restrictions. But then you **** and moan that you have a right to do what you want. Big cry babies that refuse to follow the rules and then get butt hurt when people call you out on them, is the epitome of entitled old fops. Apparently rules and laws only apply to other people. We paid to live in a deed restricted beautiful community. Follow the rules or move. What is wrong with you people... And you complain about millennials! Now I understand why the term boomers is derogatory!
IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...FOLLOW THE RULES/DEED RESTRICTIONS YOU AGREED TO!

"The Jesus 2020 campaign began in May of 2020, soon after the church of Sampey Memorial Baptist Church in Ramer, Ala. reopened its doors after the initial COVID-19 closure. In a discussion during one of their Sunday School meetings, the members decided that they wanted a sign to show that they still believed in God, despite all the negativity in the world right now."

I am going to use your complaint and insert a political persons belief instead.
What if I am not a Democratic and find all the Biden signs offensive? Not everyone who lives in the Villages are Democrats. (Just as you said not everyone are Christians) To quote you “I don’t understand why they have to display their views.” Does it make them a better “Democratic” by sticking their political stuff in their yards? Be whatever political party you want but to quote you again “Keep it to yourself.” See how that sounds when you say that a Jesus sign offends you?

Everybody seems to be offended by everybody now days. If your post is true then everybody should remove all their political signs because they might offend me or other people who don’t share their beliefs.
I don’t believe this but am using your logic as an example of how ridiculous your thinking is.

With all the rioting and unrest in this country today, I think we need more signs like this to make people stop and think of their actions, their words, and how they treat other people. God has been taken out of too many things in our lives and he needs to come back.

There's a house near my friend's up in Calumet Grove (just off of Fieldcrest) that has large Trump signs both out by the edge of the yard against a big tree and in the window facing the road. Guess no covenants up there!

Have not seen any of these signs in Lynnhaven.

"Jesus is the reason for the season" signs start showing up as we near the Christmas holidays though. And these are in the front yards. Backyards have more stuff in Lynnhaven.

Some people would associate those signs with cemeteries. A lot of people think of ALL of The Villages as one big LAST Stop on the long life-train to the Promised Land. Live it up to the max one last time! So in that respect, the Jesus 2020 signs ARE appropriate (at least for the Christian persuasion). Personally, I prefer the "WEAR YOUR MASKS" signs that would point people to the positive possibility of delaying that Promised Land for as long as possible. Maybe giving more time to really earn that ticket into a Promised Land. WE all could use a little more time, I promise.

Glad the Jesus 2020 signs don't bother most people. They then should welcome the signs going in that say "2021 is the year of Satan"

Is it too early to put up my Christmas tree?

Velvet
10-13-2020, 05:55 PM
No but you only get 30 days to keep the tree up.

Deed restriction should be followed whether a person read them or not, it’s like your mortgage papers, it doesn’t matter to the bank if you read or understood the document. All that matters is that you signed.

My heart goes out to these people with the crosses who feel that they need them. If I put out a cross (and I don’t) it would signify my asking God to pass over my house from Covid, like the blood on the houses in the Old Testament to the angel of death - except of course there is no promise this time. Somehow these crosses do not compare to election signs for me.

However, we all agreed to deed restrictions, so if you want to change them, you have to work through the proper channels not just break them.

OrangeBlossomBaby
10-13-2020, 06:49 PM
I'll put it the same way I put my opinion about the white crosses in the other thread:

As long as you don't mind your next door neighbor putting a flag that says Allah 2020, and the other neighbor putting one that says God is Dead 2020, and another that says Wiccan Goddesses 2020, and another neighbor's flag reading Mohammed 2020

then Jesus 2020 is fine. If you have a problem with any of those OTHER "religion_2020" flags, then you probably should take yours down.

post is a microcosm of humanity, those who prefer individualism versus those who prefer uniformity and control. Those who have a more judgmental personality type, versus those who have a more perceptive personality type. Birds of a feather flock together, until a pecking order is required.

and one wonders why a mask request can't be followed temporarily?

evidently some posters don't understand how humans and humans in a society works

and as I tell my adult offspring, "Old people get fussy/strange, and at some point, I will appear fussy/strange"

same as my parents appeared to me the longer they retired

These signs will result in job creation when a special counsel is appointed to investigate church interference in the election. The investigation will take about three years and will dominate news cycles.
