My wife is currently considering surgery for "lifting" of her upper eyelids and have talked to different doctors pertaining to this.
I am a firm believer in "recommendations" vs "advertisement and have gone to "Talk of The Villages" many times for referrals and or opinions and greatly appreciate any and all advice.
Was wondering if anyone has had this done and who you might recommend.
As always very much appreciate your help

I did it for one eye some years ago and was a relatively simple operation and was awake for it.
However had it done in Virginia so cannot make a recommendation for a local Dr.

If the drooping eyelid is interfering with her side vision, then Medicare will pay for it. This happened to my spouse. He was startled whenever a car pulled up alongside us. That's a safety hazard, so Medicare covers it.

I had both eyes done at the same time. A little freaky but not traumatic at all. I had mine done in Mobile, Al so cannot recommend a surgeon. Mine was paid for by my medical insurance as it was interfering with my peripheral vision. There is a special eye exam that determines the sever of the problem.

I used Dr. Stacia Goldey. She was great. Was at the Mid Florida Eye CenterIn Summerfield, but I was told she isn't there any longer. I am sure you can track her down on google.

You have to be awake as you have to do something, I can’t remember what that was though. The freaky part is you have your eyes closed during the procedure and when the start to cut the eyelid, you can see light!

My wife used Dr. Stacey Goldey at Mid Florida Eye. Dr. Goldey was very professional and the procedure was perfect. Medicare did pay for it. They preform a test to determine the percentage of droop which qualifies for Medicare. I don't think Dr. Goldey is at Mid Florida Eye currently. I think she left to start her own practice. Google her.

I highly recommend Dr. Terpstra at Lake Eye. I recently had this surgery and could not be happier. My peripheral vision has increased dramatically as well as my overall eyesight and appearance. Dr. Terpstra is a true professional and an excellent surgeon. You might be black and blue for about a week, but it is all worth it.

Awake, yikes!!!
While I haven’t had a blepharoplasty, a couple years ago I had a small skin cancer where my nose and the corner of my eye meet, and the plastic surgeon took a skin graft from my eyelid. That was close to the size of a blepharoplasty. The anesthetic going in was about as painful as anesthetic for a dental filling. After that, no pain at all, and it didn’t take long. I may even have fallen asleep. After the surgery, I don’t think I took any painkiller except for a couple ibuprofen the first night. I was shocked by how pain free it was.

Dr Terpstra the way to go. She did my eye lids and browse a few years ago. Some Short term discomfort after surgery but tolerable.

I used Dr Goldey for my eyelid biopsy (skin cancer). She has since left the area, believe in Tampa now. After my eyelid surgery to remove the cancer, I used Dr Kim, Ocala Eye, to close my eyelid and sew me up. I had a significant piece taken out of my eyelid a year & half ago, and now you can’t tell. I would check with her. Believe she does this eyelid surgery as well. Highly recommend her.

I used Dr. Jodie Armstrong Ocala Eye at Laurel Manor. Had it done a couple of months ago. Put me to sleep. Medicare paid for it. Most annoying part of the whole thing was having to tape plastic eye protectors to sleep at night. Very glad I did it.

Had surgery 2 years ago with Dr Teprstra ( Lake Eye) with great success. Vision improved tremendously, and yes I was awake. There’s minimal discomfort, and is you follow her instructions, the swelling and discoloration disappear rapidly.

I had my upper and lower lids done by Dr Nijher at Ocala Plastic Surgery in TV up by Souther Trace plaza. Very happy with both the surgeon and the procedure. It is the only plastic surgery I have had and am very glad I did it.
I would also recommend Permenant make up (eye brows for sure) by Cindy in TV.

I used Dr Alan Lessner (Ocala Eye). Local visits were in The Villages, surgery was in Gainseville. I was awake for the procedure and that was a mistake for me. He ran into complications with a stressed muscle and that shot my blood pressure up which resulted in excess bleeding. He considered aborting the surgery, but completed it. When I got home, I couldn't close my eye for days which made sleeping nearly impossible and dry eye was intensely painful. After 2 weeks, swelling healed and cosmetically the eye looked ok but would NOT close all the way. After about 8 months, the surgery let go and the eyelid drooped back to its original state but I still have a dry eye condition that I never had before. It's good to see that so many others had success but I've given up and decided that eyelid droop is better than the alternative. My vision is impacted in the drooped eye, but only when looking upwards.

This is an honest question about how you looked after the surgery. I am very seriously contemplating having it. However, I’m so afraid of looking scary. I never really had an eyelid showing, always had a hooded eye. Of course now drooping a lot more. I’m afraid it might look fake as scary. Any thoughts from those who had it done.

Are you are it wasn’t Doctor Kim at Ocala Eye? I go to Dr. Armstrong for my eye care and when I needed this surgery she referred me to Dr. Kim in their practice who is an Ocular Plastic Surgeon. I am happy with my outcome.

I just had this done by Dr. Sarah Kim at Ocala Eye. Surgery was done at their surgery center in Ocala. The whole procedure was done in about an hour. I have gone from having 40% of my normal field of vision to 100%. Would highly recommend having it done by Dr. Kim.

I had Dr. Kim at Ocala Eye last year and a friend of mine had her also. You have black and blue around your eyes for a week or so but it is worth it. No pain whatsoever. Ocala Eye is very good about submitting and getting it covered. $150 total for the surgery center is the total we had to pay. That is with United Healthcare The Villages plan. We are both delighted with the outcome! Make your appointment and do it.

My wife had Dr. Ireland at St. Luke’s do the droopy eye surgery and and my wife looked 10 years younger and could see a lot better. Medicare covers the cost if you fail the eye test they give you.

I did have this done for reasons that it was obstructing my sight. I researched and found that St. Lukes with a site in Sumter Landing is the best for any eye problems.

I had it done about 6 years ago by Dr Terpstra at Lake Eye. She is still there and I still see her annually for an eye exam. My eye lids look great and my field of vision improved so much I didn't realize how much it effected my vision. I took the test before and after and had to ask if it was the same test. I now can see the ceiling when looking straight ahead and side vision is amazing. My health insurance covered it, had both eyes done at the same time. Took about a week for swelling to go down and a month before the scars weren't visible anymore. Your spouse should definitely have it done. Check out Dr. TERPSTRA at Lake Eye. She is very matter of fact, straight forward in telling you what to expect and does a great job.

I also used dr kim but im not happy with outcome. Had upper and lower. Surgery was scheduled for mid afternoon but didnt start till 5 and finished at 7. I think it was rushed at end. One year later, i have small “bumps” where stitches were under the skin. The results were not as dramatic as i expected. She offered to “redo” at no charge from her, but would still need to,pay everyone else. Medicare would not pay a second time. Use a real plastic surgeon.

Hello
Just had blepharoplasty on both eyes - upper only. I was scared - Don't be. I was awake but relaxed for only part of the procedure (20 minutes.) Totally painless. i am 2 days out - no pain but the itching of healing is intense. A lot of icing and just doing nothing. I seem to be healing well. Had mine done at Cleveland Clinic, so no help to you in florida.

As the doctor explained to me, the lids have to interfere with your vision before they will do it. VERY simple and painless process that took about 20-30 mins. No discoloring of the eyes, very simple procedure. In my case the VA did it.

I had it done about 2 years ago at Orlando Eye Institute. My doctor was Keshini Parbhu, an oculoplastic surgeon and very good. I did not have any complications, although I could scare most little kids with my black and blue eyes for about 10 days. I spent the first two nights sleeping in a reclining chair and took 2 pain pills in the first 24 hours.

Search on the web here’s the site
Access Denied (https://health.usnews.com) in the headline you can click on doctors and you can go from there. Ask the best questions when you contact the doctors . Ask them how many surgery he/she have done in 1 day or a week. Don’t hesitate to ask.
When my husband has his colon surgery we search the web and were lucky also we saw ads on tv about Cleveland Clinic for opinions because it is a life and death situation if we go by the hospital and doctor in the state which has a low rating when it comes to the best doctor and hospitals . If you can’t find anything try calling the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. They have also in Miami Florida. Hope you find one .

This is a great surgery to have. Fairly common, not very painful and really improves your looks. I had this surgery about ten years ago in Virginia and am so glad I did. Some bruising and only took over the counter pain meds for a couple of days. I can see so much better and removing all that excess skin has made a real improvement in my appearance. Droopy eyelids run in our family. My mother had this operation in her 70s and wished she’d had it done earlier. My insurance paid for my operation because the degree of droop was so pronounced. Medicare paid for my mother’s operation for the same reason. I say go for it. Just be sure you get a good doctor with a great track record.
