We are in our late 50's & retiring. We visited the Villages 4 years ago & are excited to retire there. So much seems to have changed since we visited. It is larger with more neighborhoods. Any ideas where we should look?
Thank you for your help.

I do not live in TV. If you want neighbors closer to your age I think you would look in the new neighborhoods.
However, I figure that I would probably like to use a golf cart to get arround and a 20 minute trip would be about my maximun. That is about 1 mile. Thus I would try and figure out what I wanted to be close too and look at pre owned homes. There is also a new downtown being built so maybe being close to it will work.
I think you should add a little more about what you think you will be doing and you might get some better ideas.

Not to be too picky, but a cart going 19 miles an hour, you should be able to cover about 6 miles in 20 minutes.

Let's do the math: Most TV golf carts go just under 20MPH. That is one mile in 3 minutes. In 20 min you could go 6.7 miles. Even with traffic and stops I'd say you could easily get 5 miles in 20 min.

Where did you get the 1 mile from? Was that just a typo?

I live in Buttonwood and we made it to the square in aprox 16 mins. It is also kinda near where the new Town square is going in. We can make it to Spanish Springs in 20 minutes.

Russ, he said he did not live in TV....maybe it was a guess.

I understand, but what part of the world does a golf cart go 1 mile in 20 min - I assume that was just a typo. Probably meant 5 miles.

I just didn't want the original questioner getting a bum steer. No disrespect to RJM.

We just moved to Pennecamp, the newest area and at 59, I am older than most on my block. As others have said, move to the new areas if you want to be with people your own age. The other advantage is that new areas do not have established cliques and you will find it much easier to fit in since everyone is new.

My wife and I have regularly get together with others in our area to eat out, hang at the pool, etc.. I went from being a hermit to becoming a social butterfly.

Hey Vinnie, I was thinking about you the other day as I read one of your posts (don't remember which one) and recalled some of your first posts. At the time I thought you were trying to be somewhat of a hermit and you thought you weren't going to make friends easily. Well, in the famous words of Gomer Pyle, " SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!!". Seems to me you're fitting in nicely and will have no shortage of friends. Over the past few months, I'll bet the other members like myself have seen you develop into that "social butterfly". I've enjoyed your posts and hope to meet you one day so I can become one of those friends

Thanks for the comment. No it was not a typo. For some reason I thought it would take about 20 minutes and did not due the math. That does speed up the travel time in TV.

Thanx for your thoughts. I think we will be visiting TV 9/13 & 14 to try & get a feel for it. I could probably spend a month there and still not be sure, but we will give it a try. When will the new town square be opening?

The new town square should be about 2 - 2.5 years away from what I hear (anyone have better info?). They will begin to sell some lots and homes within a year (that's the latest I heard from some agents) or so across 466a. Final house will be sold in about 5.5 years (unless they find some more land:))

The new hospital (if approved) will be built just adjacent to the new square also in about 2 years.

When you go on 9/13 try to get someone on this board to meet you in LSL for a few drinks or dancing. They can give you the lay of the land and make you feel more comfortable. Don't be afraid to just go to places (the local pool etc.) and ask around.

Best of luck
