There was/is controversy that FL (and other states) count any death in which the patient is suspected of having Covid as a Covid death, whether or not the patient’s blood was tested for the virus or other co-morbidities are present. If that’s true, I wonder if these numbers reflect that practice.
Edited to include this CDC link which sheds a little light on reporting cause of death, but to me is still rather vague. Apparently there is an assumption that a co-morbidity would not have resulted in death absent Covid, if I read it correctly.

I read recently about a woman in her late 50's who was found unresponsive in her home due to an untreated infection developing into sepsis. While in the hospital in grave condition from sepsis, she contracted Covid. She unfortunately passed away and her death was apparently ruled Covid.

 When Annie Glenn (widow of John Glenn) passed away in May , I remember reading it was from Covid-19. The fact that she was 100 years old just might have had something to do with it too....... maybe?

I do medical billing for a huge company and for many many hospitals. Sorry to say it is true, they put COVID diagnosis and just about every patient because if they have a slight fever, sniffle or cough they are considered COVID. It’s ridiculous and if I person goes and gets tested several times and they were tested positive each time they keep counting that. So a paranoid person will go get tested till it gets out of their system and it is counted as positive each time.

So are you saying that Covid 19 is a hoax?
Of course that's what they are trying to imply. The recent Covid positivity rate is 6.74% through Oct. 20, above the 5% that the WHO recommends for reopening. And yet we saw another super spreader event in Tampa yesterday, people at a campaign rally standing shoulder to shoulder, few masks in evidence. I guess people are in denial.

Can you post some evidence of the spikes directly related to these so called “super spreader events”? I can’t recall having seen anyone reporting on this.

Not at all, but if you are stage 4 Mets, Have maybe few weeks to live, in today’s world your death will probably be counted as Covid, tested or not. There are some states, that are actually going through death certificates starting in April, and may change the death as Covid.
My personal friends wife died, In April, she was septic, stage 4 liver, Mets in 4 sites. Both were Anesthesiologists, she was being treated at, home, had an MI her husband preformed CPR until rescue unit arrived, and pronounced.
He received a letter In September, that her death certificate was being reviewed, as a possible Covid death. No testing was ever done. He knows it was not Covid, but can you imagine an non medical professional receiving that notice.
Numbers are skewed for many reasons, those in the field are just questioning why, and to who’s benefit.

Thanks for your post. I've heard this several times. It's just to pump up the numbers that 'everyone is dying of COVID or COVID-RELATED so people only believe what they read, nothing else! People don't want to actually 'think' or read different articles. Makes me also think the numbers have gone crazy now just before election date. Coincidence?!

Follow the money. Hospitals get a federal bump in money if you died of Covid. A doctor friend told me it was $3500 if you died of Covid. So every one who even has a C in their name and died must have had it. It was part of the hospital funding in the first stimulus bill. I have searched for the amount but have found no supporting information other than hospitals do get funds for each Covid patient. The $3500 may or may not be accurate, but he did say that is what his hospital got.

I've been seeing that the population of The Villages is 130,000 for the past three years. I have a hard time believing that with all of the new construction south of 44 that it's not a lot higher by now.
Does anyone know where to get an exact count of the people that live in The Villages?

What is surprising to me considering the age demographic in Florida is that only about 2% of the people who have gotten Covid have died.
I would have though that with so many seniors living here that the death rate would have been much higher.

Perhaps if people wore masks we could slow down or prevent deaths from heart disease or cancer! Some illnesses are preventable to a degree by forming good health habits, others are preventable, to a degree, by wearing masks and avoiding crowds of people. It seems like some are thinking that 16,000+ Preventable deaths are No big deal. I lost a friend last week who was a strong, healthy 56 year old man who didn’t take precautions. His family doesn’t think it is no big deal I’ll assure you.

It’s much more than $3500. But there might be a sliding scale for payment

So explain how healthcare professionals are testing positive and a percentage died even wearing more than one mask, plus probably washing their hands 100 times a day. Sometimes it’s just your time no matter how old you are

So my 56 year old friend who was one of the strongest, healthiest men I know, died of Covid because “his time was up”? I’m sure that is comforting to his family.

I don’t pay attention to the cases numbers but that is just me. What I’m concerned about is that more and more hospitals are becoming overwhelmed.

I don't think they are in denial. I think that they are concerned about the very serious issue of the economy tanking. I have the luxury to stay away from crowds because of retirement. This is another quandary with no pat answers. The life blood of the country and our very existence rests on our economy. You can't keep dipping into the "fund" with nothing going in....in order to feed people who aren't working. There is an end to that kind of unrealistic thinking.
Again I say....sometimes there are no clear answers. I very much know that Covid-19 is very dangerous for people over seventy....but not as dangerous for younger people.

The number of deaths each year in the U.S. is highly predictable. "Excess deaths" are therefore easy to track. From late January to early October excess deaths are 299,028, per the CDC. The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in early October was about 200,000. If you plot on a graph excess deaths by date and COVID-19 deaths by date, the lines on the graph match up perfectly.
The conclusion is obvious. The excess deaths are mostly if not all COVID-19 deaths and we are significantly under counting COVID-19 deaths.

As a retired healthcare worker we have different views than the public. Have been exposed to any virus has a name, plus X-rayed more than 500 people’s life time. Prior to X-ray gowns Used in the OR. Or told 3 weeks later the patient tested positive for TB. Yes you are exposed to so much and don’t know for weeks, or years you were exposed and nothing can be done now.
Yep we really believe sometimes you are lucky, or it’s just your time. Just reality that not everyone can be saved, no matter how hard you try. Or how many times at 2am you go into a waiting room and explain to a family there was nothing else could be done to save your spouse, or better yet, your child’s cancer has progressed, We will do our best to keep them comfortable. In 47 years it never got any easier, but healthcare workers have to be strong, for the task ahead. We take nothing for granted. Trauma takes its toll on healthcare workers, you don’t just to worry about one death, there are hundreds, that you think about from time to time.
And sometimes the person you didn’t think there was hope, lives, and you know someone Decided It Was Not Their Time.

Thank you for posting your first hand knowledge of the inflation of the numbers.
My mother was admitted into a hospital in MI in June. Because of her symptoms she was sent to the COVID floor of the hospital. She was the only person on the floor. She tested negative for COVID and was sent home. Oddly, she never received a bill for her three day stay. The hospital still shows her account as zero balance. Our family is convinced of the reason but why make waves and risk being billed.
Additionally, the brother in-law of my Aunt tested positive for COVID and died a couple of months ago. Oddly one day before showing symptoms he spent an evening partying with Friends and family without precautions (including my Aunt and Uncle) and an afternoon riding in a car with his two brothers. NO ONE else contracted COVID from him.
Yes, I believe there is such a thing as COVID. But I believe the government is lying to us regarding numbers and susceptibility. And I have a hard time believing that many if not most of you do not have similar experiences as me.

No where did it say Covid is made up and fake news. The post was some deaths are counted or changed to Covid, even though Covid was not tested.
The protocol to pay more for Covid patients is the evil of the situation.
Not payment to those healthcare workers who tested positive, Worked unbelievable amount of hours, dealt with death sometimes multiple times in an hour, performed endless CPR. Nor to healthcare workers that lost their lives, but payment to the facility.
If a facility is given $$$$ for treating a Covid patient, and just standard amount for a non Covid patient, Which diagnosis is more profitable.

I think that this coronavirus is as real as any other coronavirus that has gone around. I do not think that Covid 19 is The Deadly Death Plague that some have made it out to be. We have known some people who have caught it, some who have been exposed to it and, thankfully, all have recovered from it.
