Heart Ablation Procedure

Has anyone ever had an Heart Ablation Procedure done? Looks like I might be having one to eliminate my Tachycardia, and I am a little apprehensive about it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!:bowdown:

I don't have much to offer information wise, but do have a friend from the west coast that had one done. She's much younger than I am, in her 40's and all went well.
Has your doctor explained the procedure to you to your satisfaction?

A family member had this procedure and is now 100 per cent. I think that any surgical intervention is bound to cause apprehension. However I think this is a fairly common procedure with excellent results. Best of luck.

My sister in law is scheduled for a similar operation this Wednesday. She is very confident and shows no outward apprehension.

My brother has had this procedure... several times.

A cardiologist in Chicago did it a few times with temporary, partial improvement.

After a few years under his treatment, my brother then went to a cardiologist in St. Louis. The procedure performed by him was slightly different in some way. The results were completely superb and permanent. My brother is literally a new man.

Champion makes a valid point. I believe you should go to a cardiologist at a large teaching hospital.

thanks for the definition GG, I wasn't sure what it was. It might be the same thing my dad had in Dec., it sounds very much the same. He came through the procedure very well, but unfortunately it didn't work for him but we think his age had something to do with it. He is 94, but the procedure was very easy and not invasive. He stayed in the hospital one night only because of his age, but he did great otherwise. We were sorry it didn't work for him though, cause we're hoping he makes it to 100!!

seems as though most people come through this with flying colors. I am just a little apprehensive about having someone mess with my heart:eek: I am 56 and in good health so I am sure things will be fine. Also, this will take place in Ann Arbor MI at St. Joe's which is a very credible hospital. I told them I HAVE to be back in TV by the middle of Oct., so they are working on getting me in soon...LOL

My wife had the procedure done in April 2008 because of her Tachycardia. The procedure did not take long at all and they released her the same day within a few hours of the procedure. The only problem she had is that she caught a virus and wound up back in the hospital the next day.

As I recall she had a couple of times just after the procedure when she had slightly elevated heartrates but she hasn't had a problem for over two years and was able to get rid of her beta blocker medicine that she had been on for decades to try to control her heartbeat (Even with the medication, she occasionally had episodes when her heart beat would race out of control). Overall, I think she is happy with the results and wish she had it done sooner.

A friend of mine in his early fifty's had this procedure done about three years ago. The surgeon said he might have to come back after a year as he didn't get to all of the area's that needed to be fixed.
A year later he went back and he's been heallty with no episodes of fibbrillation.
I think it's normal for anyone to feel some apprehension when going to surgery. My understanding is the procedure is relatively safe and not too invasive.
My friend went to a doctor who is rated as one of the best in the country doing this procedure and he is very happy with the result.
