No one forced the people who have these type of golf carts to buy them. However, they should not be allowed to park straight in at a parallel parking spot. They stick out way to far and cause traffic to almost go over the center line in town squares to get around them. I wish the Villages would make people who have those carts only park behind buildings in the town squares vs on the main streets.

you know that they are there, so just avoid them...which should be pretty easy to do when you're only going 20mph

I’ve seen a lot of folks with 4 seat golf carts back into a spot which puts the overhang on the sidewalk.

What should be outlawed are the off road light bars that blind everybody in front of them. When I become that da— blind I’ll just stay home.

I run with mine on the MMP’s only when it’s dark because of all the idiots walking that are wearing dark clothes with no reflectors or lights. Sorry; probably not the response you like but they will on when it’s dark.

If someone reads this and feels forum shamed from buying a rear seat attachment, there are rear seat attachments that fold so completely that the total added length is less than two inches longer than a two seater GC.
In other words even the rear, protruding, foot rest folds .

Seriously, when I read the comments each morning I am never surprised at the frivolity of them each day, one surpasses the other....is that what happens when one retires?

If you go to the golf cart safety class, they say carts with 4 seats etc should park like a car instead of pulling straight in.

Thank God we live in a free country where people bothered by having to move their steering wheel not once but twice can choose to park behind the buildings on the squares and avoid the main streets.

Not shamed one bit. Been parking mine for 7 years and never had a problem. The speed limit on the square is 10 mph. If you can't avoid something (which does not require going into the opposing lane) at that speed, you shouldn't be driving.

Paul,
Believe it or not many people lived in the Villages way before you may have moved here. Back then and like today many have more than one other person in their homes, as a mother or Father who can't walk well. So the 4 seater cart works well. The problem you are speaking about is the drivers NOT the Cart. If I pull into a space and have my front wheels almost to the curb, then I am inside the WHITE parking line. This means I am not sticking out but maybe the car driver needs to be cautious. Bottom line, the extra you are talking about is very minimal and there should be no SPECIAL requirement of where I can park.

I have a Yamaha four seater that can handle two sets of golf clubs without extending its length. No problem pulling straight in. But I've seen four seaters that have an after market extension where the clubs stick out into the street. They are a nuisance.

The longer four seaters should back in. If the cart goes past the outside of the parking place they are blocking part of the street

And if they parked like a car everyone would be complaining that they took up an entire parking space where 4 carts could have parked. You can't please everyone.

Not all 4-seaters are the same. Some do stick out more than others. Drivers should take that into consideration when parking. Yes, at 10 mph you should be able to avoid a vehicle that is sticking out. Regardless, if a golf cart, or other vehicle, is protruding into the lane of traffic it is a safety hazard and should be dealt with accordingly.

Four seaters have been parking this way in the town square(s) like this since the beginning of The Villages. Sorry you feel this way but you will just have to get over it.

There are 4 seaters and there are EXTENDED 4 seaters. Maybe that is what the OP is referring to. Had one parked next to me at LSL this morning it it had about 4 feet of extension behind the rows. Besides the golf club rack which was huge (probably held 4 sets of clubs) it had some sort of storage area with a cooler. It did literally stick way out beyond anything else along the street. It also had a "for rent" sign on it so maybe was a visitor. It was almost as long as one of the 6 seaters I have seen from the LS Hotel. It was humongous and no way should have been parking where it did.

Guilty, mia culpa......I have stopped however because the idiots that drive in the town squares after a night of drinking and dancing are not in any shape to miss them. I now park parallel in a spot for a car. .. and now draw the wrath of the car owners who think a cart shouldn't take up an entire car space......ha ha ha can't win I guess.

When we were looking to buy we were told the the carts with the back seat facing forward were required to park like cars and not like golf carts. That being said, no idea who would enforce this.
