Hi All,

I'm having an Open House for my Villa that's for Sale and someone keeps taking the 'Open House' signs. I put them on the corner of Hillsboro and Oracle outside the Villa Walls and I put one on the corner of Oracle and Nuthatch, at the entrance to Kelsea Villas.

Does anyone know why people would take my 'Open House' signs? Am I supposed to get permission from The Villages to put the signs out?

Thank you for your help.

Kim

They are removed by Community Watch trucks as they are not allowed to be on the corners, only one in front of you home is allowed during the open house. That is why God created advertising. If you think about it you have never seen a Villages Open House sign on a corner, some of the MLS agents do it, some get away with it others do not.

Ours kept coming up missing in Sabel Chase and we found that Community watch was taking them. We found them at their headquarters on Bonita. They had taken alot of them and stacked them up on a table outside the building. We got most of them back. Some of the Villages agents put them out on Canal near our neighborhood. I've watched on purpose.

This may not be true but, I was told that if you tie balloons on to the open house signs that Villages Watch is not allowed to take them.

Putting advertising signs on corners or other open spaces is not allowed. Most of us enjoy looking at nice landscaping not signs

For the few hour that Open House signs are on display, they are hardly liable to cause a problem, or a local area house price collapse.
Bet you would want your sales agent to do everything possible, if you sold your house!

I see signs directing people to the open house on corners all the time. If only left up for the day do not see it as a big deal.

Would these "Garage Sale" signs in the Villages streets fall under the same rule?
If not then post #13 has something to think about....

Give an inch and they will take a mile. Allow open house signs and then garage sale, golf cart for sale, car for sale, Tarot card reading, and what ever other items for sale signs will pop up and many will never be taken down. What size sign is acceptable, 12" X 12", but then someone will hedge and put up a 4 foot by 8 foot plywood sheet sign.

No garage sale signs.
In that little packet of paperwork you got when you signed for your house.....look for deed restrictions.
If you lost that go to Village Community Development Districts (https://www.districtgov.org/departments/community-standards/download.aspx) and print a copy. :ho:

I see signs directing people to the open house on corners all the time. If only left up for the day do not see it as a big deal. While I 100% agree that "it's not a big deal" it is against the rules. One either has to accept the rules or have the rules changed or not live where there are deed restrictions or else take the chance and possibly suffer the consequences. Just like a lot of little things around here wrt deed restriction either you can or can't and if you can't .... don't and if you do and get caught don't complain. :)

As far as I know we have not broken the rules around here.

If we do and get caught all I can say is oh well.

Why are they suddenly removing Open house signs? Why don't they take away the signs everywhere and for weeks "appoved" and "storm damage". Th owners are getting a free roof and all the rest of us have our home owners premiums DOUBLE.

Bet you would want your sales agent to do everything possible, if you sold your house!

So everyone in TV that is selling anything can put a sign in your front yard for a few hours?? I doubt that would be ok.

What is so hard about following the rules you agreed to??

Houses need to be advertised to buyers. Cheap agents use yard signs all the place instead.

I would be considerate of my neighbors and hire a realtor that follows my neighborhood rules.

The Villages Watch takes them but you can go and pick them back up. We flip houses and we buy many signs. You are saving 6% comm. that’s alot of signs.

If your signs are on main roads, the little men in the white trucks take them.....I’m speaking from experience! You need to keep them inside the village gates.....otherwise.....POOF......they’re gone!

Community watch should be so proactive and picking up all the roofing signs that have been in peoples yards for over a year. Seems a little bit like selective enforcement again.

Many of those signs were taken down at 2-3 am. Remove your signs after hours! Keep them 10’ away from stop signs and traffic lights. Balloons or not, they will be removed.

I recently sold out villa by owner. The village's watch did take our sign on the corner, however they brought it to my home and explained to me that the signs cannot be within 10 feet of a stop sign. We simply moved them further away and never had an issue.

Well, if they keep being removed, that should be the first hint that they arent permitted. You kept putting them back up?? Many communities have restrictions on signs. We want our neighborhood clean, not cluttered with signs.

As a Realtor we will hang some Balloons on the street sign post. People understand there is an event of some kind going on and will go down the street. Once farther down you can put Open House directional signs on the corners.

For those that object to someone trying to sell their houses with a short term "Open House" sign on a corner.... How do you feel about all the crosses, flags, banners, and yard signs painting a rabid picture of the Villages at the moment?

I have no issue at all with someone putting small notational, secular, or apolitical signs up to try to sell there house, as people do short term pretty much everywhere else in the country. The HUGE problem, really, is with people obnoxiously trying to force their personal beliefs on everyone else via the cancer of political, moral, or religious proselytizing that assaults the eye all over yards and houses here in TV. How does that compare to a corner "Open House" sign? Without doubt, it, imho, diminishes the welcoming atmosphere the Villages should be about. I'm fine with whatever people believe, and whoever people like, and enjoy discussing different perspectives, just dont try to make the whole community a symbol of what you think. There are groups of every kind of interest to be kindred spirits with, join something with like minded people and enjoy. or try open discussions with others. All this "I am the greatest, because I proclaim my belief in "XXXXX"" is just offensive. Not the beliefs, rather the blaring attempts at conversions, and what it does to the earlier cited lovely landscape. Meanwhile, people blare horns, wave banners, and generally disrupt the charm and flavor of the streets and squares with one bias or another. Then again, maybe those who take exception with the simple "Open House" sign on their corner, might find it more acceptable that the seller gather some friends and stand on the corner waving signs and screaming "YOU BETTER COME TO THAT OPEN HOUSE DOWN THE STREET!!!" That kind of thing seems to be quite openly accepted.

Not true realtors both TV sale reps and outside put open house signs on corners to direct you. Not who or why yours are being removed unless they are up for more then the day of open house.

A quick call to the District Community Standards Customer Service line ( Phone: 352-751-3912) and the young lady there explained that you *are* able to post an open house sign *in your yard* while the open house is happening. You *cannot* place signs at the end of the road or during a time when the open house is not going on.

If you have seen signs outside of that, it probably was right before the signs were plucked away.

Community watch does not act on behalf of Sumter County. They have no county or state municipal enforcement authority. Their actions have nothing to do with a Sumter county ordinance.

Don't put signs on other people's property, and they won't be taken. GPS will get you to the address of the open house.
