Watched news this morning and noticed streets down town Orlando was full of Halloween party goers last night. Shoulders to shoulders packing streets and businesses. Some had masks and lots didn’t. I sure this probably when on in every major city. This virus not going to slow down or end IMO for very long time. People just can’t stay apart.

Using the measures presented the same description of crowds applies at the squares in TV....but that does not carry a political bent therefore not the same like riots and demonstrations are not super spreader assignation worthy!

The experts told us in April, that when warm weather came that would have a great impact on dissolving Covid. That didn’t make any sense as warm climates had outbreaks. Now many countries are going through an uptick. Will there be flu and common colds this year. I hear they may be lumped into Covid cases. Now I hear that different strains of Covid will make their debuts making the vaccine non effective in many cases. I suppose we just must realize these folks just don’t know. The media reports and makes up some juicy stories as if they enjoy listening to themselves!

I’ve seen an uptick in cases in Sumter starting on the 29th, a week after the event. That day we had 37 cases, most of which were over age 65. Usually when Sumter reports that big of number they are younger, and tend to be cases from the correctional facility in Bushnell. Even today they reported 13 cases, which sounds low until you realize the cases reported the last few Sundays were 0 and 7. We don’t test much on Saturdays...
Hospitalizations ticked up a little, but not much. The day of the rally Sumter had 10 hospitalizations, today they have 12.
I watched closely but did not see any upticks a week after the squares opened which surprised me. So they are handling the squares pretty safely.
All of this could be a coincidence, as We are lagging the State of Florida’s numbers a bit. They started going up several days before the county did.

Not sure about the positive covid. numbers ! My friend got tested 5 times till he got a negative! If many do this the numbers may be skewed! Many keep getting tested twice a week till negative so they can go back to work or even go to grocery store. No one talks about this. And most positive many only have symptoms mild !

Yet every single time someone gets tested it's counted. Yes, still, that's happening. That's how they count cases. That one person who gets tested 5X's---it's counted each of those times. That's what a doctor (on t.v.) said. IF they'd count the actual person "with" Covid (and not every time they're tested) then we "might" have accurate numbers. I can't believe how the fear is still so prevelent along with paranoia.

I did not see report, however I’ll bet mostly younger crowd having a good time. It’s better they do it a like this then burning down stores and intimidating citizens trying to enjoy a meal.
Only in TV will they limit the size of crowds in squares and mandate masks, etc.

Media gets an Oscar for working the crowd. It will work it’s way through the population of the world, like it or not, even in remote areas, it is showing up. Luckily, they know more about it and how to treat it. Vaccine will not be very effective in the near future, so, if you plan to hibernate, it will be a looooooong time before you can dance in the squares. More room for the rest of us!

What I can't get over is criticizing the President's rallys and calling them super spreaders, but yet no one mentions the hundreds of people rioting and looting in groups. That's ok? As far as the squares go, if you have underlying conditions and are leery, stay home. The scientists say outside and social distancing are ok. If you take the proper precautions, go live your life.

Bottom line, official numbers for Florida on 11-2-2020 do the math, 307,000 cases, 16,700 deaths. 2% Death rate and dropping. Dear God people, vaccine or no vaccine just use common sense. If you feel nervous or frightened because of your health then stay home. For those of us who are not frightened or nervous we are going on with our lives. I won’t criticize you and I would hope you wouldn’t judge me. Life is a risk. I’m ready to move on and return activities as they were. I’ll see everyone at the square and the pools and will not hesitate to shake your hand.

NOT so! ALL the reputable Doctors say that CV could be controlled if 95% of the people would S I M P L Y wore their MASKS 95% of the time. SO SIMPLE! A vaccine MAY or may NOT work and be the great saving grace that most people HOPE that it will be. They say that HOPE is NOT a strategy. Here we have a SIMPLE, realistic, factual technique that is proven to work - namely a mask MANDATE and the US is such a disorganized and confused-by-leadership Country that the citizens of this spectacular - now once-great-country are happily throwing it into the toilet - and for WHAT???? For WHO???? Not for GOD! - not for any teachings of Jesus Christ! Please think about that as you walk among the multitudes, maskless and spreading your droplets of DEATH - WHILE WEAKENING the US and playing into the hands of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, China, Russia, and other Dictatorships that HATE you and the freedom you enjoy in the US.
Freedom comes with a price. In WWII and other wars the price was young solder's lives. Today the price is ONLY a simple wearing of a mask to save America and Americans won't pay that price. Note that the smarter countries like Canada, S. Korea, Australia, New Zealand, even China, and Germany are only too happy and SMART to pay that price. So go ahead American patriots in TV Land, be UNWITTING DUPES of Putin. Be TRAITORS to America. I warned you, I did my part!

Wrong! Younger people DO die from CV. They just die in FEWER numbers than older people like YOU and I. I wonder where people are getting all this misinformation? Oh right! It starts with Russian trolls, who are trying to KILL you and it drifts into some cable channels, which don't care if they KILL you - then you regurgitate it onto local forums such as this. With clever modern propaganda - "they know not what they do"!

I haven't believed the numbers for some time now so I don't even pay attention to the numbers. Having said that, what I do pay attention to is how the hospitals are becoming overwhelmed with Covid patients. I don't ever recall hearing that hospitals have been overwhelmed during the height of flu season. Those awful images of health care workers being stressed beyond their limits is quite distressing. I don't ever recall seeing images of health care workers on the verge of exhaustion during the height of flu season. This is what is being reported on the news. I can see it with my own eyes and listen to the heartbreaking stories by the healthcare workers. I just don't ever recall seeing coverage of this magnitude during flu season.

THE SKY IS A FALLIN' REPENT, the end of the world is nigh.
For crying out loud, get over it. Tomorrow, all this venting will all be for naught. No matter what someone does, there will always be someone that will say they shouldn't do it. MIND your own business and let others live their lives, whether safely or dangerously.
It amazes me when I hear folks on here defending China or espousing how great some other country has handled the virus. This is America, so if you don't like it then either leave or come up with a solution that folks are willing to adopt. You are not always right, and you only think you know it all. I am not attacking a particular poster, just generalizing. However, a few on here run amok screaming that we are all doomed. Well, guess what? Things are getting better without a mask mandate. Why? Who knows, maybe the virus is getting weaker or people are getting more resistant to it. I don't know, but I am not going to allow a few screaming "Karens" (where did that term come from?) ruin my few years left in this world. If you don't like my attitude, then don't read my posts and don't leave your home. Like I said before, I follow the store rules or I don't shop there. Otherwise, if you see me, stay clear. Maintain your safe distance and you AND I will be fine. I don't like people close to me anyway, unless they are family.
Tomorrow, after the election is over you can all go back to being just normal miserable people, because it won't be long before the virus will just be a footnote in the history books.
I will do just what I have been doing in past years, wiping my shopping cart down with the wipes they supply at the store entrances. And washing my hands frequently during the day (habit from living overseas). The flu will be the next big scare. Will we inundate the forum with FLU pandemic hysteria? Will the Villages suddenly embrace golf cart parades at St.Patty's day and Christmas again, or will they still accuse others of "super spreading?" Yes, I am being my usual facetious self. Sorry folks, but I know my lifespan is getting closer to the expiration date so I plan to appreciate each chance at being outdoors that I can. I am not going to dwell on the evils of this world, even if our gov. changes after tomorrow. Like a statement made famous by one president a while back "Don't worry, be happy."

Very confusing. Let's go in order from most erroneous to less. 1st - "things are getting better without a mask mandate" They may be getting better in New Zealand, but not in the good old US of A, Mr. Dog Bytes Man. One need only to tune in their radio or TV to any news outlet and they will find that all the hospitals in the upper mid-West are turning new CV patients away. They, then MUST try to find a hospital for these patients often many states and hundreds of miles away. Their nurses are running SHORT on equipment and staff. It IS an EMERGENCY situation. Doctors have to decide who lives or DIES. No Doctor or nurse wants that. They themselves will have permanent psychological scars. But, apparently if one lives in a bubble known as The Villages, it is OK to ignore their PLEAS for help. If I hear or see one more poster say that "it is JUST like the regular flu" ( and flue is a vent on a furnace by the way), I will pull out my few remaining hairs. Cases have increased to 100,000 per day, AND no end in sight. And you-all can make fun of Dr. Fouci all you want - that just makes you ludicrous and pathetic!
2nd grievous statement - "this is America" - I guess correct geographically speaking. But, I take it to mean that you prefer NOT to compare America to other countries out of FEAR that other countries are rated better (which they are ever since about 1950 on world lists of important VERIFIABLE qualities). That is the only TRUE way to compare. The US is not the only country with an overly high opinion of itself, Brazil does also.
3rd - I could possibly be wrong, but wasn't "Don't worry, be happy" a Calypso song - not some President's quote?
4th - I COULD psychoanalyze the statement, " I don't like people to get close to me, anyway". But, Christmas is coming and I don't want Santa to get peed-off at me.

Wrong, they are getting better, and you proved my statement of proclaiming how great other countries are doing and how bad you think America is doing. And a personal attack on my name? Not nice.
Yes, I am one of MANY Americans that have a very high opinion of my country. Of course, I am an American citizen so it goes with the territory.
"Don't worry, be happy" that I was referring to was used by George H. Bush in a speech, but I am sure you knew that, but needed to misinterpret my sentence to mean something else. Perhaps, you skimmed over it and didn't quite catch it?
Are you offended when I say that I don't wish people to get close to me? I thought safe distancing was one of today's trends.
I was talking to a gentleman the other day (in his 80's) that had the virus in Feb. He said (kidding?) that they said he was so ill that they weren't going to give him any medicine. Surely he was joking, but I did not ask. He is better now. I had a family member that was 94 and was in the hospital with a recurring heart problem, along with many other illnesses. He passed away and they said it was due to the virus. Right. I know of another relative that died in the hospital that had kidney problems and was in there for dialysis. He started having problems THERE and was put on a respirator. He passed away a few days later. They said it was the virus. He was in his 60's.
I take the virus seriously because of my spouses medical issues. BUT, I will not run around shouting that the sky is falling. Sorry, but I do not care how many "know it alls" declare me "unpatriotic" or a "denier" I will do what I feel is taking the proper precautions according to what I deem to be credible facts, not gossipy speculation.
Whether or not a mask works, anything including a shirt sleeve is better than coughing into the air about you. I appreciate that. Do I always wear a mask in public. No, I don't. If I am social distanced, I do not. I enjoy fresh air and I am not going to wear that thing around me unless I believe it is prudent. Sorry, if that does not agree with your hysterical, dooms day and political interest.
Have a nice day. Don't worry, be happy. And maybe, maybe you can give others confidence that the sun will still rise again tomorrow. Sometimes it is better to tell a little white lie to someone to make them feel better than to needlessly proclaim what you believe is the "fact" or "truth" and make that person ill with grief.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to argue that CV is getting better. All the LEGITIMATE Doctors and the US Army are saying that. The US Army is telling the truth. I never paid attention to speeches by any Bush, either H, or W, or HW, or Billy. Can honestly say that I have NEVER heard one of them. And I like your forum handle - it is pretty clever! Sorry about a spouse's medical problems. Hope they improve! And I can say that the sun WILL rise tomorrow morning. However, in the medium future because of Global Warming, I can NOT be sure that humans will be around to view it. The large dinosaurs are all gone, except birds. Native Americans say that the coyote will be the last animal left on earth!

What a thoughtful post. Clever! Several yellow things jumping up and down. I spent 10 minutes pondering all the ramifications and permutations of that! A life well-lived.
I read quite a bit from those "yellow things." Probably a lot easier to "ponder" than worrying about non-existent things like how the world is going to end in the near future because only the coyotes will survive, or even how CV19 is going to wipe out civilization as we know it.
It must upset folks quite a bit to have someone that is positive about LIFE and our GREAT country, instead of going on a mental apology tour. Guns are going to kill everyone in America, because they are rebelling. Guns are going to get up and march down the street by themselves and wipe out humanity. Global warming is going to wipe out the polar bears (real facts rejected that premise). Certain leaders are causing safe rooms to be restocked because they [leaders] threaten socialism in America and are going to take away your health care, social security, life savings, sell our country to the Russians, eat Mexican children that come here illegally, etc.
Please folks, do not use the yellow bowing guys to show agreement. It confuses some, so just use the little clapping guy. Less confusing. I hope that everyone understands that this is all good natured and just conversation. Pardon me while I check on some good friends and see if I can assist them while they restock their "safe rooms." I may have some extra packs of toilet paper, left over from the mass panic shopping a few months ago. I have a slightly used and tear stained teddy bear for a good price. Get it now before the results come in and I am forced to raise the price.

Guns, guns, guns - so much talk about guns. And safe rooms? Who is the paranoid one now? And YES the Polar bear IS an endangered species. And YES, many species ARE going extinct at an exponential rate in recent years. That Teddy Bear of yours may go extinct from the fountain of tears that its owner is going to be crying after Truth Tuesday (TT). Good luck with your PETD.......Post Election Traumatic Disorder .......stay away from those guns for a few weeks.
That WAS a little harsh by me. How about...Good luck on Tuesday, may the best Candidate born in Pa. win!

I just people would stop using New Zealand and Taiwan as an example.
The population of New Zealand is HALF the size of the NYC Metro area or a handful of counties in Florida. It is sparsely populated and completely surrounded by water.
Taiwan is in a similar position except they went through SARS1 and had a plan in place.
It is very easy to control immigration when you are 100% surrounded by water.
Anyone reading this should go look at infection rate by region by date. Some things will pop out to you. The infection hits a region that is tightly integrated. NYC Metro includes NJ, Southern NY and Connecticut is a prime example. This area was hit hard in March and April and somewhat into May and then it dropped very low. The next regions to be hit were the south, including Florida, Texas, and other southern areas in June and July. Guess which areas are spiking now? The areas that did not have any real level of infection until now. The midwest, upper midwest etc.
The pattern repeats over and over, EVERY single country. The areas of Spain that were hit hard in the spring? Hardly anything now. But, but Spain is spiking!!! Yup. Everywhere it wasn't spiking in the spring. If your area did not go through a big spike? It's going to. I hate to break it to NZ, but until there is a vaccine, they can't open the door or it will get in.
Masks do help to lower your intial dose(Inoculum) but you will ultimately get exposed unless you are locked in a bubble. Lower inoculum, better disease outcome. There are therapies. The Eastern Virginia Medical School has a covid procotol. Go google that. Vitamin D has shown efficacy and there's no downside to a supplement in reasonable dosing. A clinical trial on calcifediol(metabolised D) has shown efficacy and there is a the Vitamin D, randomized double blind placebo controlled study VIVID underway.(Vitamin D and COVID-19 Trial - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04536298))
Quercetin and zinc are likely to help as prophylaxis and again, no downside if taken within reason. Why aren't we being told to take some D at least? "Go home, come back if you get worse" is terrible advice. Ivermectin is showing amazing promise in Australia. Hear about it here? No? Why not? Oh, right, it's not $3000 a dose like Remdesivir.

In response to Malsua post #59: Ivermectin has been used for years to rid animals of parasites and worms. Don't see it as a treatment for civic19.
Why not? It's being used successfully in Australia.
Even our NIH has something to say about it: Ivermectin in COVID-19: What do we know? (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7521351/)
The anti-SARS-CoV-2 of ivermectin is likely through inhibition of viral IMPα/β1-mediated nuclear import, which reduces the replication of virus and thereby the viral load [4].Caly et al. showed the in vitro benefit of ivermectin in Vero-hSLAM cells infected with SARS-CoV-2.The authors found that a single dose of ivermectin was able to effect ∼5000-fold reduction in viral RNA at 48 h [4]."
This Australia doctor: Well-Respected Australian Researcher: Consider Triple Therapy (Ivermectin, Zinc, Doxycycline) for COVID-19 (https://www.trialsitenews.com/well-respected-australian-researcher-consider-triple-therapy-ivermectin-zinc-doxycycline-for-covid-19/)
Thomas Borody MB,BS, BSc (Med), MD PhD, DSc, FRACP, FACP, FACG, AGAF, has been using it for some time now with some pretty amazing results.
Don't take my word for it though. Go google "Australian Triple Protocol".
Ivermectin has a wide therapeutic index, not only that, the dosing is small. There are a number of trials underway, one just finished but the results have not been published yet.
Here is some more: https://www.alliedacademies.org/articles/effects-of-ivermectinazithromycincholecalciferol-combined-therapy-on-covid19-infected-patients-a-proof-of-concept-study.pdf
Small study, but here is the money quote " In conclusion, in this study, a combined therapywith Ivermectin-Azithromycin-Cholecalciferol given for 7days was effective to reduce symptomatology duration and clinical progression of COVID-19."

I believe in science too. However, I had a mother that taught me that being smart mouthed never would change anyone's mind.
People ignore I.Q. anymore. It sometimes really helps to understand each other better. !00 is average. 100 is normal. There is a range above and below that, that was probably determined genetically. Some people use superior intellect for good and others use it for subversive purposes. I HATE it when people call others STUPID ....JUST to be dismissive and mean. There are things we can choose and things we have no control over.
We oldies who are retired can stay away ....from the greatest threat of catching Covid-19 until we find a medicine or a vaccine. We aren't working in a lab and all of this discussion is just rhetoric. WHY do we have to be so ugly to each other???

The largest US gathering this year since COVID-19 was in Sturgis SD. 450,000 attended. 300 confirmed COVID cases since to date according to the experts. That is .009% rate of infection from the Sturgis Rally event. Lets please stop all the fear mongering.
When those people are spread all over the states there NO way knowing who got infected from them. How about the unconfirmed cases?

I haven't seen any uptick in cases here. Have any of you? It has been now nine days since the rally here.
coronavirus deaths sumter county florida
First of all, people from Sumter county, Lake County, and Marion county shop and dine at some of the same places—even here in the villages there are people that don’t live here but just visit. It’s not just the cases in Sumter that spread or don’t spread the virus.
From the day before Trump’s rally, the numbers have increased in the tri-county area. There have been approximately. 24,000 new cases, which over 17 days comes to approximately 1400 a DAY. Sumter county increased by close to 1000 people, amounting to approximately 59 per day. I see that as a higher rate than the pretty consistent “few” number change pre-Trump.
