I tied a ribbon through the little slot and hung on gear shift knob, but not always pleased with this arrangement. Sometimes the ribbon gets tangled. What is your clever trick?

I got a lanyard with an alligator clip at the end that clips through the slot on the gate pass. I hang it around my rear view mirror so it sits above the gear shift. I have enough slack to grab it and unclip and reclip it after using it.

Find a store that sells items for Law Enforcement and get an I.D. case. They can sell these to anyone. Put the Villages I.D. on one side and the gate pass on the other. Each time you leave home, just slip it into your pocket. Keep it beside you wallet and you will never forget it.
We close on our home Sept 2 and that is what I plan on doing with mine.

We have one of those plastic key chains that are circular, expandable with a clip on one end and a key ring on the other end.
We keep both the gate pass and mailbox key on it and it hangs on the gear shift. It's easily accessible and expands in length to open the gate without removing it, and easily removable to take out to open the mailbox and be placed back on the gear shift.
It's also easily transferred from the car to the golfcart, as needed, however it's not left in the cart when parked anywhere other than home.

I suppose you're worried that someone will take it if you do what I do:
My gate pass sits tucked above my car's visor; always has (more than 5 years). I'm curious why anyone would keep it anywhere else?
Maybe no one wants my 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager? So, my pass is safe?

I keep mine in the small space in front of the gear shift. It is always there. No groping or hunting for it. The other one is in the glove box of the cart in case I need it.

I picked up a small extendable reel at the Dollar Store -(like a mini tape measure) It has clips at both ends and I keep my card clipped to my visor. The first one broke, I bought another one for $1

SWR, I do the same thing, but my car is 2 years newer than yours (98) so maybe I should worry? :p
I go thru the gate by tailgaiting behind the car in front of me.

So that was you the other day!
I've had 2 people recently do that. One of them knocked down the gate. A guy in a golf cart also tried it. I saw him in my rear view mirror and had to stop to see if assistance was needed. The gate came down on his cart, he swerved and hit the curb at the gate house and it flipped him up in the air and sideways. He land upright and was ok, just a bit shaken, so I drove on, thinking "IDIOT." This was at the Southern Trace gate coming in from 466.

I have a question about driving the golf cart - can't you go around all the gates, therefore you don't need the gate pass in the cart???

Some of the gate entrances are too narrow to go around the gate via car or golf cart.
My gate pass is kept in a small change compartment near the instrument panel on the driver's side.
One day my mom in law was behind a car that approached one of the gates. The older gentleman in the car, the driver, opened his window and extended a piece of wood, either a long dowel or a narrow pole of some sort. Attached to the end of it was his gate card. He swiped the card then brought the wooden pole back into the car. Wonder where the heck he kept that???!!!

My car door has a small cavity that is a door pull used to pull the door closed. Perfect place for the card.

The gate pass sits in the rubber boot of the 4-wheel drive gear shift.

Rarley use the gate pass in the hot summer ...just drive to the visitor gate, wave at the attendent, and you will always get in sometimes even faster than using the resident gate at the busier entrances such as Morse Blvd heading north from 466.

Someone mentioned they used their sunvisor. My sun visor seems to be extra thick so I can't even clip the garage door opener to it.
The gate pass fits nicely in my cupholder in the console. I only use the gate pass at other villages since I discovered the resident side of my village gate opens automatically when you get close enough to it.
