Happy for you. I don't partake of the entertainment, but I am glad others get to enjoy it. One of the benefits that brings a lot of folks here. One more step towards normalization in this country.

Driving through Sumter Square Friday evening one would be hard pressed to conclude many, MANY have returned to normal.
Mostly no masks.

Sunday afternoon Arnold Palmers bar shoulder to shoulder plus all tables filled to capacity. I was the only one with a mask as I went to use the rest room!!

the tickets were not a good idea.

I think the squares are busy, but not like pre covid where you could not get in to the bars or resturants. It was difficult to walk or drive around the squares due to the crowds.

Love the positivity .... the infection rate is 14% in Sumter Country ... in Brookline Mass it is 0.25% ... a factor of over 50. If everyone heads for the squares massless ... would that be considered a "Covid Party" or is it something else?

Hoping this will not prove to be a huge mistake.

It’s probably going to be. Hate to state the obvious, but with the soaring rates of infection, why was this decision made?

Would it be because they’re trying to “cull the herd”? Because that will more than likely start happening.

The Mass. numbers look good today but that could be due to the large number of deaths Mass has already gone through. According to Statista.com, Mass has the third highest rate of deaths in the US with 148 deaths per 100,000 population while Florida is 13th with 80 deaths per 100,000. Perhaps there are fewer infections in Mass because there are fewer left to become infected.

Which absolutely does not mean that Florida should race to achieve the numbers in Mass (or NJ, NY, Conn). We should strive to stay healthy and maintain the numbers we currently have.

Be careful what you wish for. Sometimes it is intelligent and prudent to just "clutch your pearls". The 130,000 per day rate is predicted by medical experts to extend to 200,000 per day by January. In an increasing disease environment is live entertainment worth the risk? Why take a chance on dying (it is a permanent condition) when science is rapidly trying to come up with a vaccine ( some scientists predict April)? If all of us were 25 years old, it might (?) be a risk worth taking, but it is really foolish at age 50 plus. Maybe you will feel brave and macho by going to a square? But, maybe some of you just have a NEED to feel macho? Get that WILL up to date and good luck, may the force be with you!

Some may celebrate, others may wring their hands or clutch their pearls.

And some will continue to “social distance” which means avoiding gatherings which might lead to becoming infected with COVID-19. Do what feels comfortable for you. My husband and I have decided to be prudent - we’re in our 70s and he has a number of comorbidity health issues. We’ll wait until we’ve been vaccinated to let down our guard and return to normal❗️

You all go first; I will continue to wear masks and stay at least 6 ft away from others. Sorry, but this is FAR from over. A pandemic does not go away; it continues and we are 6 months to a year out from the vacinne. Stay safe!

Totally agree. I'm not yet 65 but have several high risk factors. I will continue to take all precautions. Kind of used to having to stay home even though it's getting old. Anything else would be uncomfortable. Best of luck and stay healthy!

As Covid figures rise, some activities are cancelled, due to positive cases, many brought from " out of TV" visits by residents. Now the "Rec Dept decides we will utilize their facilities 100%... What bad timing. Now we have thanksgiving visitors, then those Renting, then visitors for Christmas... Watch out here comes the virus that we good mask wearing social distancing folk tried to avoid.

what I dont get... is why 11/18 is the magical date... ifyou are going to open the squares then do it right away... maybe in the next 7 days the virus will disappear

You can't fix "stupid! People are dying from a Virus that still is not under control and yet
some still decide to play with fate. Is what your about to do worth your life. Is pretending
it doesn't exist worth your life. It truly is a fact that you can't fix stupid and we have some of the stars of this thinking in our presence. You gota love it! :ho:

We "play" with fate every day.
Calling people that don't agree with your way of thinking stupid, is pretty immature. I'm very tired of that mindset spewed by many here.
That is why we can't have nice things.

November 18 is Mickey’s Bday.

But it’s also our 48th anniversary. Celebrating at Disney.

What else happens that I have no control over, I don’t waste my time worrying about.

Sorry Penn. I’ll never believe that stupidity can’t be fixed. Ron White was wrong.

Jeez I wish that didn’t become the most overused cliche’ of the 21st century. Its the “FREEBIRD” of discussion forums.

I'm sorry, but that's not ok. I can't understand why people would risk it? If you're six feet away, then ok. But shoulder to shoulder! NO NO NO! But to each is own! I'll enjoy from afar. Unfortunately, it would be nice if people would wear their masks so ALL can enjoy and be part of the fun and not have to enjoy from afar.

Hey now this from the almighty CDC

CDC now says face masks protect the wearer -- and the economy - MarketWatch (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/cdc-now-says-face-masks-protect-the-wearer-and-the-economy-11605055182)

Now go out and have fun.............there's no excuse not to anymore. It's a win win...I don't infect you...you won't infect me

Just in time for all the sick relatives from other states to come and infect us all. Of course the squares will be open, Anything to give the illusion that no one ever gets sick in The Villages. We don't like in a bubble, we live under a big rug that anything bad is swept under.
