Has the Sumter County Sheriff run out of places to park his old patrol cars? They have appeared on a number of roads in TV. I assume he believes he can stop speeders by parking these old and unneeded cars on the side of our streets but they are an eyesore and should be removed. If there is a speeding problem, have the deputies do their job and write tickets. Maybe he can sell some of those unneeded vehicles and gain some cash for his department.

God bless all law enforcement! Seems to be a thankless job these days.

Thank you for your expert opinion. Did you feel nervous when you saw the car and immediately slowed sown? Glad to see you noticed. :girlneener:

They slow people down, and I don't think they are eyesores.

After 48 hours noticing the vehicles not being moved defeats the purpose. On St Charles during the summer grass had grown up to the tire rims. We don't speed and in no way comes close to scaring some.

We don't speed (our cart is locked on 20) but we even slow down to see if someone is in it once in awhile. THAT would be a good deterrent if they put someone in it once in awhile.

IMHO little chance of getting anything more for these old vehicles beyond scrap value

by the time the Sheriff is ready to mothball a used patrol car it is practically worthless....hundreds of thousands of miles on them, an interior worn out and a dash riddled with holes from equipment that had been installed and removed, if the tires were in good shape they've been replaced with worn out tires from another vehicle...replacement parts are expensive because the cars are designed for high performance and are built differently than the cars sold to John Q. Public...add to that the cost of repainting it...

Life is good when this is all you can complain about.

Do you really think these vehicles if not used by deputies are worth very much?

Second that ! "old junk cars" ? WHERE ? Haven't seen any old junkers parked through the villages, thought I got out quite a bit, guess not....LOL ! I do agree that some of these tandem trucks rumbling through here at unbelievable speeds on these narrowed (due to golf carts running along side) streets is out of hand and very dangerous, VERY. It any one attempts to drive the speed limit, they just lay on their horns and make nasty remarks.

That is not true. I never exceed the speed limit and no one gives me a hard time.

OK, I mean 'almost never'. On rare occasions, I find myself accidentally doing 38 mph on Morse Road, but I immediately decrease my speed to 35 mph.

My God protect and America defend our Police force all over this country.... :police:

Selfless, overworked, underpaid...and underappreciated by so many! In a perfect world, they wouldn't have to use empty patrol cars as a deterrent to scofflaws. God bless and keep them safe!

Yep, down the two lane gauntlet. The 2nd most dangerous street in villages imo. The street I avoid at all costs.

How about people stop speeding and the sheriff wont have to use a deterrent. Deputies are doing their jobs, theres just less of them. Remember, theyre treated like crap. Would you take the job?

You should be happy the department is trying to solve the speeding problem without tagging your wallet when you inadvertently violate the law . The speeders are not likely people like you who live in the neighborhood. They work for us. They are not here to play "got ya" and finance the budget .Rather have them out fighting real crime. We are all in it together. Thanks for all they do.

They do that sometimes in UK. and when everyone is used to seeing the empty car, the Police stick a real camera car there, and nick dozens for speeding!

I might write, “I for one would certainly slow down if I saw a law enforcement vehicle parked along the road looking like it is ready to chase speeders,” but hey, I’m not speeding anyway, so I have nothing to worry about!

As Romans 13:3 says, “For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.”

Ideally, if you like to talk about your love and respect for our country’s flag, just seeing a flag along the road should make you check your speed or slow down because you respect your country’s laws.

I agree. I know the sheriff's car is there, yet I impulsively take my foot off the gas no matter how slow I'm traveling.
It seems to slow traffic.

That's what happens when you defund the police. They can afford cars but not the officers to drive them........:1rotfl:

Typically Sheriff's Deputies avoid issuing tickets unless it is a serious violation. The Sheriff wants to get re-elected and if enough people don't like him, he won't. The police are another matter so Wildwood and Fruitland Park officers will ticket you anytime.

Finally a political post , police departments have been leaving cars by the side of roads for many years , and it’s not because of defunding the police or to prepare for a BLM invasion. It would be foolish to think that the cars don’t slow down traffic and unless you take road day after day it works , it only takes a couple of people slowing down to slow down the rest . I also confess to going over speed limit and I’m so sorry that I’ve disrespected our countries laws lol

I'm pretty sure that this is one of those community service efforts. It is designed to give residents of TV who have run out of complaints due to Covid-19 a new item to type up on the on-line forums. Gives them something to do.

Yo .. i know that i slow down and check my speed when driving along a road when i see a police car down the road. Also. I know NOTHING about rules and regulations about asset relocation or their finances. When i worked for a gov agency the vehicles belonged to GSA not the agency.

The most dangerous 'roads' in TV are the roundabouts ... like all of them. I avoid whenever possible. If going from one end of TV to the other, I go around, usually 301. Yes, I know it longer in mileage but I feel safer and that's what matters to me. I leave enough spare time just in case of a passing train.
