If you have a Nova Filtration System, do you continue to replace your Refrigerator Filter or do you use the attachment to bypass the use a filter on the refrigerator? If you don't use the refrigerator filter, is there a difference in the taste of the water - for the better or for the worse? To your knowledge, is the Nova Filter list of items that it filters comparable to a refrigerator filter? I can not find a list of the specific things that the Nova filter actually filters like you find on a refrigerator filter. I Really hate changing the refrigerator filter!

Like polar bear said, no need for refrigerator filter. Water is already filtered before it gets to the fridge. It’s redundant, an unnecessary cost, and a pain in the a$$ to change.

We can't "cap off" our filter location without a filter in it so we put in 1 new cheap one a few weeks after the filter was installed and it's still there. I just keep resetting the "change filter" indicator.

Have you tried to just remove the filter? I don't think anything will leak. Allowing drinking water to run through an old filter could create a bacteria or other contamination with your water. Also, the filter material can break apart and start flowing through your water.

We love our Nova water system but still keep the fridge filter in.
If it’s there why not use it.

Yes, leaking is not an issue, just that it leaves a big 3" (or whatever it is) diameter hole facing out of the front of the refrigerator. The filter is right in the middle of the fridge between the 2 drawers. Just looks pretty flaky if I leave it out.

Depending on the refrig model, you may be able to order a filter cap or bypass cap that will cover the hole. Or, duct tape always looks good.

There is no bypass cap but I found a bypass FILTER. Basically an empty filter unit. Thanks ... I had previously looked for a bypass cap but never thought of the "fake filter". Made me look again. :)

Nova said to save my money as I didn't need it anymore and the fridge filter was pretty useless due to the size

We do as well. Like the security of double filtration. Our refrigerator filter is easy to reach

I use both the Nova and the built in refrigerator filters. I felt that it cannot hurt anything and provides an additional layer of protection.

Jus' sayin'.

I recently purchased a home in TV. I also had the Nova Filtration system installed. I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with the built in water filter. I just ordered a new filter for the refrigerator not knowing when it was last replaced. I decided to install the new refrigerator filter with the idea of never having to replace it again because of the Nova filter system that was installed. The refrigerator filter claims to remove any chlorine smell or taste. You can only do that with a carbon filter which usually filters down to 5 or 2 microns. Depending on your water usage, carbon filters can last a very long time. Now that I have the whole house Nova filter system which also has a carbon filter in its #3 cartridge. I expect the refrigerator filter will last a very long time.

You may or may not need a cap on the refrigerator water filter. Ours is self sealing. I called the refrigerator company and checked on that so, we don’t need a cap on. If yours is not self sealing you will need a cap

Really, guess that’s why the water tastes like something out of a Clorox bottle. Then there is the iron, ....... I like water that tastes like water and not recycled waste water.

I don't think it is a good idea to leave the refrigerator filter in for longer than the recommended time. The best thing to do is to remove it.

I have never seen a refrigerator that did not seal leak tight when you remove the filter.

When Nova installed the whole house filter they said I could remove the fridge filter but we just left it. Might remove it at some point but guessing it is not doing anything since it is already filtered.

I would remove the refrigerator filter because, over time, the filter material may break apart and flow into your water system. The filter could also become a source of bacteria or other contaminants.

Just slide a can of beer in there for the aesthetic value.

We also removed our fridge filter, the savings helps pay for the Nova filters.

I am surprised you have much taste left after drinking out of empty Clorox bottles. Weird habit, but thanks for sharing your experiment, comparing taste of water with or without bleach.
