They’re everywhere north to south; I go across the Chitty Chatty Bridge about everyday and some filthy ass pigs are throwing out litter on the bridge.

It’s starting to show up exponentially since the return of the ‘birds.

You're going to blame this on "the birds"? The Birds who subsidize your daily existence? Those birds?

When we had recycling, there were some residents who took their junk mail home with them to recycle it. Of course the lazy ones didn't but that's another story. Now that the Villages is no longer recycling, people are dumping their junk mail at the post office. Clearly there is going to be a problem. We either need additional garbage receptacles, or they need to do more garbage pickups.

Talking about ELS, while walking with my wife in the grassy area near the dog park, I saw three greenish colored bags filled with dog waste.

Maintaining trash cans at the postal stations seems like a ridiculous waste of money. My postal station has 5 trash cans. If I can't put junk mail in them, will someone please tell me what I can put in them?

Lets take a step back and consider the source,
Who said it is ok for “them” to throw their useless phonebooks into my property?
And I suspect that I am somehow being charged for them too.

If the Post Office charged 1st class rates for ALL mail, the amount of junk mail and wasted resources would decrease dramatically. And the billions $ that taxpayers subsidize the USPS each year might not be required.

I see zero value in having a printed phone book...

as I tossed the one delivered overnight into the trash this morning I wondered how I might avoid receiving updated books 6 months from now, yet still get the paper

The newspaper has nothing to do with getting a phone book. Everyone gets it. And, I don't think there is any way to stop the phone book from coming.

Without the junk, there would probably be no postal service.
It is the junk that just about keeps the service viable.

Do not see how you can opt out of getting phone book, bad enough to get one but think we have now gotten 3. Why would anyone want so many?

Episode on Seinfeld that I believe Kramer wanted to opt out of getting mail. Cant be done either.

I'm new here: Is there an online version of the phone book? Yes, I know I can find most of the same information but there is some value in the layout of the existing book.

The conditions in the photo are inexcusable. I wouldn't treat my property or my neighbor's that way so why would I treat the mail station that way? Yes, I will deposit junk mail in the nearest receptacle which ideally would be before I get into my car but there is no excuse for what is shown in the photo.

I wonder why tossing books and papers on my driveway isn't considered littering. Can I take my unwanted books and papers and simply toss them on someone else's property? Sure, they didn't ask for my trash but I didn't ask for the phone book either. Maybe the trash guys will pick up the book if I don't?

There is nothing here but a picture of someone who offloaded his/her trash. It certainly is NOT typical of the behavior of the residents of The Villages. I have NEVER seen anything like that at our mail drop.

There are those with an "agenda" to paint this lovely place in ugliness. Either they want to discourage people from moving here, or they want to change the very well working CDD form of government or they just see the glass as half full.

I see this day as one full of hope and promise. Very soon we will be able to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and have it be 90% effective. We will be comfortably able to be with people we enjoy again and to do group activities again.

BE HAPPY. Good times are coming!!!

But be very careful about spending. The good economy we had at the beginning of this year will be etched away by other reasons other than Covid.

Sorry to say this was not a buildup over a day or two. I pass by this postal station 2-3 times per day. The mess was created the day of the photo. The predominant piece of discarded mail was from a roofing company I too received that day. Apparently once the trash cans were full, the slobs decided to continue to pile their trash at the postal station hence my term ELS. No pride in where they live, we were fortunate that it wasn’t too windy out or the stuff could have blown all over.

The ELS treat the postal station and parking lot like it is their dumping ground. The same postal station/pool area parking lot was used after the hurricane a couple of seasons ago as a dumping ground for their yard waste bags.

What village?

I wonder too. Where was this picture taken???

Our house sits so that we are right across from the mail drop and we see a black pickup truck come to get the trash. Not every day...but regularly. We have a very small Village, granted, but throwing trash in the trash or next to it when it is full is what people do. Thankfully the pick-up-trash person carefully picks up the overage.

This is just another mountain out of molehill to me.

Just take it home and throw it in your trash....

The same reason I don't take trash out of Scooples, 5 Guys, or Panera to throw in my trash or why I don't take trash from the squares home to throw in the trash: receptacles are provided for the trash, I have trash, I use the receptacles.

I would love to be able to retrieve my mail without having to sort through the junk. However, the Post Office finds it beneficial to put junk mail in my box. I find it beneficial to leave that junk in the trash cans.

Sometime take a close look at some of the ponds on the golf courses. On Mallory Caroline, along hole 1 and 9 you will probably spot several of those little blue doggie bags carried by our thoughtful dog lovers (I do love dogs) who dump their poop bags into the drains. Guess where they end up? I have seen golf course workers having to drag the bags out of the ponds.
Always remember: Feed the can man. Slam dunk the junk.

So why don't the people that print the phone books allow those that want them to order them. That way they would save a lot of paper, ink and trees.

The phone book companies make their money from the advertising in the Yellow Pages. In order to maintain or increase revenues from that source they have to tell their customers that the phone book will go out to every house in the community. The problem, and advertisers are beginning recognize this, is that 80% of the phone books are thrown directly into the trash.

Send out a notice with a post paid card asking people if they want it. They can then print the number of copies that people actually want.

I taught a college course for fifteen years. It is my opinion that at least half of my students should never have been accepted to college. Today's collages are all about making money and have instituted a campaign to convince all parents that all kids need to go to college. That is why so many of them are living at home with their parents. Many also have chosen to major in subjects where jobs are few and don't pay very much.

Many of those kids would have been better off going to a trade school or serving and apprenticeship.

Raising the minimum wage really only benefits the government. It will first of all increase prices on everything. If you're making minimum wage and get a 5% increase, prices will go up accordingly. And of course, you won't get that 5% because the government takes its share. But you will have to pay the full increase in the price of everything.

In addition, increasing the minimum wage will create higher unemployment as many companies, especially small businesses will not be able to hire as many people. As they raise prices they will not sell as much product or services because fewer people will be able to afford them. Also, the taxes that they pay on payroll and profit will go up.

Minimum wage is an idea to fool voters into voting for politicians. It doesn't help anyone.
I agree. But, I would just point out that, as a Federal Government employee, I worked with many people who also should have never been accepted into college. But, they got a college degree and a Government job. They were set for life, had job security, health benefits, retirement, and made way more money, with less effort, than they ever would have made by going to a trade school. It may not be right, but the Government is getting bigger and bigger all the time. A college degree and a Government job can be a passport to financial security.

Hold your insults, totally unwarranted. And offensive in case you might not be able to digest that. Bet you wouldn't speak as freely if your identity was known. They call those kind "keyboard warriors". No one, ESPECIALLY ME, said snowbirds were entitled to anything. I object strenuously to being shat upon by the full-timer simply because I still work and can't be in TV as much as I would prefer. Do you think, as a part-timer, my investment in TV is any less significant than the full-timers? But to place blame on "the birds" for being the ones bringing litter to TV, wo any evidence, is laughable. And responses like yours make me question my decision to invest in TV.

it seems the solution is to install a regular dumpster at the postal stations instead of 30 gallon plastic bag. You could cut up your box delivery on the spot and dump it. No need to bring it home. Possible side benefit is maybe the dog walkers at the postal stations may stop accidentally leaving their doggie donations for everyone else.
