What do you do with your garage door opener on the golf cart? When you park (at a square, store, etc) do you put the opener in the glove box (locked/unlocked) or is everyone comfortable to leave it hanging in the cart?

I mounted mine to my overhead console using rivets. Remove the metal visor clip, then take the battery cover off. Drill a couple of holes through the back (as well as through the console), rivet it to the overhead, and reinstall the front of the opener

It takes about 30 seconds to get out of the golf car and use the mounted key pad, I leave my remote at home.

And for those of us who don't have a mounted keypad? Wondering also if you have a cover over your driveway for rainy days.

One would need to either match the cart to someone’s home, or steal the opener and follow them home. In the first case, it would be pretty difficult. In the second case, when they got home they would discover the garage door opener gone, and presumably change the garage code (also assuming one has the house key on your key chain so you could get into the house). These are the two scenarios my non-criminal mind can come up with.

In any event, we feel pretty comfortable having it in our overhead shelf.

Everyone should have a keypad. If it's raining I'm sure you would get wet getting into your golf car before you headed for home so a little more won't hurt.

Thanks for the responses. Good ideas - feel safe that someone would know where home is and then take the opener.

Ours is velcrowed to the inside part of the front dashboard in both golf carts. Never have even given it a second thought. I am much more concerned about getting a decent t time and an open lane in the sport pools to swim laps.

We just leave it in the cart. No one is going to figure out which house it goes to.

Take the remote with you, hide it in the engine compartment or leave it at home. It can be taken and reprogrammed to another garage door unit provided it matches the brand, (RoMac). These things are not cheap ($32) and anyone can reach in and take it. I bought one at a garage sale for $5, took it home, checked the batteries, got a paper clip and programmed it to my unit.
Voila!!! A spare.

We put ours in the glove box and locked it. So the crooks just took the whole cart, 2 years old, parked in front of Colony Cottage, in broad daylight. Don't worry about the garage door opener!

Never gave it a thought. If someone wants to break into my particular home, they will find a way to do it regardless. I have decided to go forward without fear on the assumption that my fear hurts my immune system. Oh well. Hope it works out for us both and for the "rivet" person too (he's smart and handy).

We needed another one, so bought a small universal remote that goes on the key ring. Fits in your pocket easily.

My keypad has died and ROMAC says they are no longer available. Do you know where I could buy one?

I have one that has been velcroed to the inside roof of my golf cart for 8 years. No one has ever bothered with it.

Do you leave your cell phone, wallet, keys in your golf cart? Why would you leave your garage opener there. Take it.

Seriously? Rain isnt going to cause a heart attack.

Is that your professional medical opinion or are you just being snarky?

Giving the benefit of a doubt, rain may not cause a heart attack but it could lead to a slip and fall situation. Walking in the rain, even for 30 seconds, would be unnecessary if a garage door remote was in the golf cart, which was the original question.

Spring for the accessory from Villages carts that has a button on the dash that opens the door, just like your car. Program and leave the opener at home.

So easy to pocket it when you go to any place but convenient when you're in the cart. 👍

Mama is waiting at home with a rolling pin if you've been out drinking. Im sure she'll open the garage as you skid in
if it's papa he'll do it after the football play is over
the longest you might wait is for the commercial break

I’m assuming everyone carries a key for their house with them? Why wouldn’t you use the key to get into the house, and open the garage door from inside? Seems to me taking opener with you is one more way to lose it.

I have a plastic tray mounted over the steering wheel near the roof of the cart and have Velcroed my door opener on the tray, out of site.

Not sure if anyone posted this, I read all the post on page 1 and some others following but a simple option to look at is upgrading the garage door opener to use wireless communication with a program on yours and your spouse’s smartphone. Everyone carries a cell phone these days wherever they go. No remotes to steal and simple, get home, pull your cell phone out and press a few buttons on your phone and garage door opens. Problem solved. See more info here: Retrofit Your Garage Door Openers to Work With Wi-Fi | Family Handyman (https://www.familyhandyman.com/list/retrofit-your-garage-door-openers-to-work-with-wi-fi/)

I bought and installed a MyQ, I can open and close the garage with my phone from anywhere in the world as long as I have wifi. It also shows me if the door is open or closed and how long it’s been open or closed. I bought it at Lowe’s, it has a bracket that mounts on the ceiling beside your garage door motor, four screws and you’re good to go! No remotes in car or cart. There are other devices but this on had the best reviews for installing, operating and support.

If you have a seperat remote for your golf cart you should not have your house key attached to it. You already have an access to to your house with the remote.

Until you come home some day or night and the power is off. In that case, you'll need a door key or an open window to crawl in.

MyQ - i just researched it. You but a piece of hardware in the garage and something on the garage door - the hardware is available on Amazon for $25 or $30. Then link it to an app. I think the app is free.

The MyQ website says it's not compatible with the MVP Allstar openers. I have tried and failed to get it to work in full mode. It only tells me if the door is up or down with no control of the door.
