On my way to work at about 7:30am from south of 44, I cross the CC bridge and about middle ways across, some dumbs#%t in his truck has pulled a burnout going northbound on the bridge and, to top that from evidence on the bridge, he popped off a round from a shotgun.
I called Community Watch and told them what had happened and had them transfer me to the SCSO. Gave the dispatcher the report and then a Deputy called me in about 5 minutes with some more questions; said she was going out to investigate it.
I really hope that this person is caught, even though it is a long shot to do so.

Huh? There was a truck on the MMP bridge, the driver discharges a shotgun, and you call Community Watch, as opposed to 9-1-1. What am I missing?

Well, having been a LEO, I kind of knew who to call and when to call.
What good would have it done to call 911 for something that happened hours earlier and no one was in immediate danger when I passed over the bridge?
Community watch to get one of their guys out there to see if any damage had been done by the idiot firing the shotgun and I also knew they could immediately transfer me to the SCSO non-emergency number so I could report it to them.
Anything else you need to know as to why I do things in the order I do them?

Take a deep breath. Your post was convoluted, to say the least. It sounded like you saw it happen, which I think anyone would infer from reading your post, especially since you said it was a truck, and that a shotgun was used. Geesh

From the imprint of the rough tread of the tire; never seen that rough of a tread on a car.

I knew a shotgun was used due to the empty 12 gauge shell casing left on the bridge.
Anything else you want to criticize?

Your post seems to indicate you witnessed the incident. Perhaps saying your prior experience and evidence on the scene lead to your conclusion and subsequent call to the Community Watch,

KC, thank you for taking on the responsibility and putting in the effort to look out for the best interest of our community. Most people would just drive by and shrug their shoulders. Knowing that you are a former State Trooper, I have trust in your assessment of the situation you unfortunately came upon. Thanks again!

I'm confused... you say this in the OP:
On my way to work at about 7:30am from south of 44, I cross the CC bridge and about middle ways across, some dumbs#%t in his truck has pulled a burnout going northbound on the bridge and, to top that from evidence on the bridge, he popped off a round from a shotgun.
So that was in real time.
Then you say this:
What good would have it done to call 911 for something that happened hours earlier and no one was in immediate danger when I passed over the bridge?
And that is after the fact.
The question still arises....being in law enforcement?....why not call 911 when the incident occured?

You said:

But then you said this in your OP
On my way to work at about 7:30am from south of 44, I cross the CC bridge and about middle ways across, some dumbs#%t in his truck has pulled a burnout going northbound on the bridge and,
So you saw the truck, then you say from the imprint of the rough tread on the tire you could tell it was a truck, when asked how could you tell if a car or truck?
Sorry........crap makes no sense at all

Read the original post and understood his message right off. Proper follow up as the last thing the local PD needs is an unnecessary ‘emergency call’. Clearly he assessed the available evidence and based on training and experience made a reasonable deduction.
I was municipal as opposed to a Trooper. We backed each other up many times. The gratuitous reference to the MA incident was unwarranted in this case.

There are cars down here in the surrounding areas that have 4 different tires on them, it could very easily have been a car or SUV.

@kcrazorbacks
First heartily agree with christopher about your service.
I will point out that your first paragraph used “has†as a present tense which can be interpreted as having witnessed the event, which is how the eggnog and Christmas cheer group ganged up to join in some Rudolph reindeer games at your expense.
However, I am sure that your background experience hasn’t shown you the best of humanity, and certainly anonymity here can encourage similar behavior where you wouldn’t expect it.
So agree with @tophcpa and your concern with the community. Sportsguy

These comments are the written versions of local bar conversations of birds of a feather who get together to review the world as they see it. Due to the pandemic , the local get together bullish!t is being typed here.
However, there is a lost reference point on a forum like this, in that I learn after the fact poster’s backgrounds to evaluate/judge the quality of the poster’s post.
RC got ruffled and heckled awhile ago when poster’s challenged his bear observation with the fact the he was a hunter and why didn’t we just accept his post as truth?
Lack of context and knowledge of the individual is the primary reason, which doesn’t happen at local bar conversation because of the personal relationships. TOTV is more impersonal so everyone is to be challenged until proven worthy in many bar table conversations.

Why would you say something like that about a person you never met and only read his post about an unlawful incident which he reported to Community Watch and then to Sumter Co Sheriff. I would like to have neighbors like KC. So he didn't write it as eloquently as you would of preferred and you didn't understand it, that makes a person a terrible human being. I'm confused.
I did have KC as a neighbor, and I can only wish I had half the lawn care skills he did! And, I also respect his LE experience.

I believe KC had good intentions, but I think It’s really just a matter of grammar. Let me take a shot at what KC was trying to convey:
“At approximately 7:30 am I was on my way to work in my golf cart crossing the Chitty Chatty Bridge traveling south to north.
“About midway across, I noticed what appeared to be tire markings similar to what you would see if a large vehicle performed a ‘burnout.’
“Additionally, I evidenced a shotgun shell, which could indicate a weapon was discharged as well.
“With no obvious indication of when this occurred, I notified Community Watch, which transferred my call to SCSO (spell out acronym) and gave the dispatcher my report.
“A deputy called within about 5 minutes for any additional detail I could provide. She indicated she was going out to investigate.
“I hope authorities are able to identify what happened, as this could have been very serious if another vehicle had been in the vicinity.â€
The original post was good intentioned, in my opinion. That's the important thing to remember here.

Anytime weapon discharged in heavy populated area chance of someone being hit or killed. The empty shell casing could provide valuable information if there was a case?

WOW! perfect example of a thread going wild!! why is everybody trying to knock the crap out of a op? in an effort to keep matters on track, there are several cameras posted, sooner or later someone with this reckless behavior will be found out. is prob not the 1st time the driver went off. i'm thinking it could be someone from 'up north' on vaca, 'celebrating' complete joy on experiencing a forgotten lifestyle. coming here can be very liberating, esp when coming from a dark, dank, cold state. either that or he was drunk, :icon_wink:

Another possible situation that might've happened:
2 LOCAL non-Villages people in the vehicle, drunk. Driver distracted by being drunk, and by passenger with shotgun. Passenger with shotgun pulls a stupid "drunk passenger with shotgun trick" which shocks driver back to reality, causing him to pull a u-turn abruptly in the middle of the bridge because he realizes he shouldn't be there.
