Inspired by a recent ABC newscast, I have decided to undertake the following project. This project serves as two primary purposes. Keeping busy during this virus pandemic and helping elementary children in their normal/remote learning at home. In studying at home or just doing normal homework, we all know the importance of having their own uncluttered space. This project involves constructing a small Kids School Desk. I enlisted the help of our friend “Mr/Ms Google” to locate simple plans and specs. To my surprise, the plans I selected revealed the following basic supplies: Only one ½ in, 4 x 8 plywood and one 8 ft 2 X 4. Outside of brad nails, glue and a couple of screws, that’s all. Never have I ever attempted something like this but was pleased to discover how fun and easy it is! Now, here is my question to all of you. Where and how should I begin the search for families who could use this? I would prefer to start with the under-privileged. These desks will be provided free with no costs to them whatsoever. In my construction of this first one, I paid a total of $45 for the sheet of plywood and the 2 X 4 and from that, I can build three (3) desks, for a total of approx. $15 per desk. Feel free to either comment here or in private at 317-403-1790 (text or voice message). Bud VanDyne, in The Village of Alhambra.
