Could someone give me an estimate of what it costs to glass enclose a screened in lanai? I want to have it done for my husband for his birthday.
I understand its double for double pane vs single. I understand the.benefits of double vs single pane. Its about a 9 by 15, a typical size in the villages.

We just had it done but our lanai is 30 ft long and did get double pained glass.
We used Custom Windows and happy with the job.

You are best to get estimates from the companies that do the enclosures but my guess for a 9 x 15 with quality double pane windows would be $11,000 to $14,000 depending on who you use and how good their product is.

There are two who do it. I highly recommend the insulated glass.
We chose Elite Lifestyles.
It cost $30,000. They also insulated the ceiling above it and painted the entire interior of the room. The ceilings are 12 foot tall and the glass is oversized. We do not need any additional air conditioning. It is a little cool in there now for me, but the rest of the year even with sun setting in the west which is the main section, it is quite comfortable.

Congratulations - You are one the the few that actually answered the question when someone asks "can you give me an estimate". Don't understand the responses that answer with use this outfit or here is pictures of mine but never disclose the dollar amount they paid. Was that not the primary question ?

I recently had my 8 x 15 foot lanai enclosed with double pane glass sliders. I used Custom Vinyl Systems (352-237-3088) and am extremely happy. Cost was just shy of $10,000.

Sorry did not think it was anyone's business than ours what we paid for it. Not to mention it had some custom features that drove up the price.
Thought I was being helpful by giving you a good company to get an estimate on.
Sorry you do not feel that way.

I'm surprised how much prices have jumped in the last five years. The owner of CVS (Custom Vinyl Systems) lived in our villas until about five years ago. He did about 25 of the 80 villas in our community and that time a 8'X14' lanai enclosed with double pane sliders was $5700 to $6200.

If you double it up less than 15%

Three years ago, our price was $11K. This was for a 30x15 lanai with double pane windows with screens, door, concrete block knee wall on one side with outlets, and insulation above the ceiling. I believe, based on friends who have done similar things recently, that you will find that prices have increased significantly.

I was comparing the price to the poster who had also used CVS and had a similar size lanai, $5700 vs $10,000.

I had mine 10 x 17 finished up last month by Custom Windows of Leesburg. The cost of Windows and Doors for 3 "walls" (including installation and permitting) was $14,500. I had tile floor ($2300), mini-split AC ($3000) , exterior Coolaroo Shades ($450). I used Custom Windows of Leesburg based on all the highly favorable comments I've seen on this site. However, based on my experience using them I can not recommend them whatsoever. I had to get them to come back multiple times to correct a combination of poor installation practices and defective manufacture items. They finally got it done to satisfaction, but getting to that point took more persistence on my side than anyone would think should be necessary.

Yes prices way up . I did mine single pain 34 ft of glass for 5,000 10 years ago my neighbor did his last year for 10,000. Keep in mind you may have to also paint your walls or raise your floor for a few thousand more. I used single pain. Yes it's a little cooler or hotter in the Summers and I now wish I used double but it's really not a big deal

We used Custom Windows about 5 years ago. Our lanai is larger and single pane windows cost about $8500. Very happy with them.
Beware - our friends used another company snd their windows cannot pivot to wash the outside. They have to use a chemical bottle attached to a hose to try to clean the outside through the screens. They were never told this when they got their sales pitch. Nit a good option!

Got 3 estimates......from $6800-$9500. We have an Iris....not extended or anything. Single pane. We were told we really didn’t need the double pane because we weren’t going to turn it into additional living space, we just wanted to use it as a lanai. If we wanted to put the mini split dehumidifier/air conditioner out there it would be cheaper to just buy that as opposed to putting in double pane glass.

Just had our done $13,995. Double pane, insulated ceiling and we didn't want glass all the way to the ground, so we have beadboard for bottom 24 inches. Glass door and light sensor for outside.

Just be sure to do your homework to determine the need for double VS single pane as there is a significant difference in pricing. It is a unique decision to your use and expectations.

we had an estimate to redo our lanai from push up vinyl windows to sliders and it came in at $15,000!! Just had the vinyl replaced - sold the house - then bought one with existing sliders that is heated and cooled. Good luck it is not cheap

Mainly because knowledge is power. It's very helpful to have a good idea of what the price should be before you start asking contractors. It also helps you make up your mind if you even want to get a quote based on what others have paid. I find the advice and experiences shared by other Villagers to very beneficial to my decisions, and very much thank everyone who shared their experience, along with an estimate.
Thanks to all who responded, your input is greatly appreciated!!!

There are several levels of enclosures. I think it would be best to put an enclosure in that matches the relative value of your property. e.g. a $30k lanai would be inappropriate in a manufactured home. We had D&C do our lanai. They were very competitive with price. Remember there is probably one factory in FL that produces most of the enclosure material. So, what you shop for is quality of the installer and price.

I like the illusion of real transom windows above the lanai entrance with those framed windows. Where did you find those?

Our cost was in the $11,000 range for a low fixted glass wall, and sliders above with screens, the end wall was floor to ceiling sliders. Make sure that you have drainage out side the new walls. Also the floor treatment can run you another 1-2 thousand if you want other than present concrete. Insulatoin of ceiling is a must another $450, and then climate control. You should be able to get a package unit for $4,000 if you show around. Getting cooling or heating air from the home is not going to do the job you want.

Thank you all so much. I did want an idea before I shopped. I am trating husband from an inheritance so no heart attacks forth coming. Its his man cave, not living space. I just want to block out dust and cold/heat. Fine with cement floors but want to be able to open windows. I am sure I will get an estimator who will insist I don't know what I want as I am a woman. Again thank you for the ideas and estimates, I don't like sticker shock

For sure, single pane does not give you much insulating value if any at all, does not do much for ultraviolet rays that can damage your furniture and they do not hold up well in hurricane winds. If you have a hinged door with full length glass they also tend to shatter. But on the brighter side you don't have to worry about the seals leaking and getting fogged on the inside. If you think about it, when is the last time you saw a single pane window in a house, there is a reason for that.

Custom Windows of Leesburg has been recommended on TOTV for many years for their work. I believe they have about 20 crews working at anyone time. The Sunflower is a designer home, I just looked up the floorplan and for reference the lanai is 19 x 14, that's good size, so $7900 was an excellent price.

I don't know how you would expect to get any kind of relevant numbers for enclosing your lanai by anyone other than the vendor. There are so many options and installers out there to contact and share your wants and needs. About the only take away from these posts are a few vendors to contact.
I knew my only want for my enclosure was to keep out the dirt, rain and wind. Single pane glass was what I used since I wasn't heating and cooling. The sliders are easy to remove if needed for a good cleaning. The lanai is 9x20 and was approximately $6200 and gives so much more flexibility....very happy with my decision. So here's another name to pursue. John Hill Aluminum (352)753-1701

I asked to get an idea of cost. Could have been $2,000 or $30,000. How would I know if a bid was reasonable or not? Kelly Blue Book? Yes. The answers with cost are really helpful in pursuing this idea. If you don't like the question and are looking for an argument, look elsewhere. Thank you to the reply that asked why people reply but don't answer the question. Smart person and the rest, thank you so much for your help.
