Today at Winn Dixie at Lake Sumter Landing I noticed a guy with a guitar setting up to play music in between the produce and deli sections. They announced him as he started to play around 12:30. My checkout person said this was a weekly thing.

Does anyone know what the times are for these performances? Is it always Wednesdays around noon?

I’m sure some people enjoy live music while shopping. I’m not all that comfortable shopping these days, and am glad most people wear masks and try to social distance at the market. The musician was wearing his mask around his chin while tuning his guitar, I don’t know if he masked up to sing. I’d prefer to avoid these times if I knew when they were.

Ignorance and stupidity to sell products by Store Management. Nice to know I will not be shopping there or at least not at that time!

Turn around and go down the next free aisle.

Must admit, it’s hard to get by some one camped between the produce and deli. You have to go back to the front of the store and go around customer service. And if they are singing I feel I need at least 12 feet.

I have left stores without buying anything if there are too many unmasked folks and I can’t keep my distance.

Very bad idea during the pandemic. If one must go to an indoor space, and be around strangers, the goal is to get in and out as fast as possible and stay as far away as possible from others. Having entertainment in a grocery store conflicts with those goals and would cause many grocery shoppers to take their business elsewhere. Instead of an entertainer, how about opening up a couple more registers so people can get out of the store faster?

Whether the music is with or without masks and/or with or without pandemics frankly I think it's kinda dumb having live music playing inside a supermarket. They could have just as easily been outside near the entrance with the holiday money collectors. I guess they wanted everyone to be in the Pandemic Spirit. :D Not sure how it would help sales. Aside from that, IMO that particular Winn Dixie is the worst of them in the area and we try to generally avoid it anyway. It reminds me of an oversized 7-11 or CVS. The one in Pinellas (and Lady Lake) is so much nicer, bigger and usually is much better stocked.

Both of our specialty grocery stores have had music for about the last 10 days. Of course they’ve been doing this for the last 15 years so this year is no different.
But most people in either store don’t rush in and out to get groceries, the crowd is younger so that might make a big difference.

Plus to get their iconic cheese bread you could be there for at least 20 minutes holding your ticket while you shop the rest of the market. Sometimes you go home without the cheese bread cause you forgot to place your order day before. This year family isn’t coming so we get a whole loaf of bread to ourselves :MOJE_whot:

I'm from Austin, Texas which is the "Live Music Capital of the World." In Austin live music is playing just about any place imaginable. So much fun. Of course that was in the good old pre-pandemic days. I'm sure things are much different now.

Music? No Music? Really after everyone has touched all the fruit, vegetables, picked up packages of meat, jugs of milk? You think those silly masks really are protecting you? So some guy is playing music. Think of it as bringing happiness into the peoples lives that can still enjoy the little things in life. There are other places to shop. Shop early. I think they're open at 7 AM. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. Let the rest of live our lives. God will take each one of us when he wants. No one adds a minute to their life worrying about it. Be Happy. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Most Villagers are relatively active and healthy and don't live in fear. 96% of those that die from Chinese Covid were already sick and near death. They would have died from regular flu if they got it. Live the last few years of your life. Don't be so negative, go out and get some friends other than those on TOTV.

We like the idea of music as long as the musician wears his mask. Like the convenience of the store being just a mile away. Also they have car shows there sometimes.

There is a great deal of disagreement by medical professionals, as to the effectiveness of even cloth masks. Uncomfortable and unable to depend on just keeping your mouth shut, then stay home and order your provisions.

If he's set up in a corner somewhere, where customers don't need to reach for a product, or out in the middle where it's easy for customers to get around him without concern, I say go for it and congrats to Winn Dixie for a great way to ring in the new year.

I wrote a "fluff piece" back in college for my Senior Journalism project, about the piano player at the local grocery store. Definitely not a supermarket, it was a small family owned shop on Charles Street in Boston. He was one of the original owners of the store; retired, but he loved performing and came in twice a week to play for a couple of hours.

You can't really sing wearing a mask, that is why the singer should be distanced from the audience.

I would not rely on "MOST" Villagers for my ideas of right or wrong. They are obviously wrong here in this case of " live music in Winn Dixie during a Pandemic" (not a China anything by now). Realistic "fears" help a thinking individual to decide their risk factor. Live music outside is better than inside. Live music will have less risks after June when more people have taken advantage of medical science. So THAT is what people have to be positive about in the future.

The masks are BUPKISS! When will we ever learn?
SOME have "learned" - from medical science. They then use that knowledge to decide what their risks are from being close to people singing close by in a situation like this "Winn Dixie" situation. Some are averse to either learning or medical science or both.

Most information we have is spun. Journalism has changed. Code of ethics, not even sure it is taught to people studying journalism today. Walter Cronkite remember You Are There movies in school?

I do my best to judge all by the same rules and know that makes me seem rude to many. We all, including me, communicate is one line speed thoughts. I do my best to listen to all sides and stir it together in search of reality. It is a tough and often frustrating task. I believe that 3.7 percent increase is the CPI-consumer price index.
Other,"news?" stories say incomes are flat. Other stories say savings are up and they are predicting a good stock market in 2021.

My opinion we are fed SPUN NEWS. The three different SPUN FACTS simply cannot all be so.

If, it is fact that the CPI was up 3.7% in 2020. Few, most do not realize they will need 3.7% PLUS YOUR TAX RATE, to be even.

Opinions? As I read post here and well, everywhere. People argue about opinions that they select as being fact. Life, Liberty, Freedom, Truth, Justice, Fair. Most important terms. People will argue likely forever. One liners. There are many books, there on conflicting books that attempt to define any of them.

Crazy? Perhaps. I expect it to all fit together and be REALITY.

I read in this morning's New York Times that consumer spending RECENTLY declined for the 1st time since April in the US. IF the NY Times is correct, then my post WAS correct! And Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to You and Yours - may your vaccine be soon delivered into your arm and may you and yours live happily thereafter and above all COVID-19 ------FREE!!!!! And we can ALL listen to live music at Winn Dixie - party time excellent!

ALL YOU/WE CAN DO IS THE BEST WE CAN DO.
(given the circumstances). I'd add that last bit on there.

The problem is when some people who CAN do better, choose not to, and thumb their noses at everyone else for daring to try. When someone challenges your belief system, you tend to get defensive. These anti-maskers (not the ones who simply don't wear them - but the ones who make a BIG STINK about not wearing them) - are incredibly defensive. I wonder what other beliefs are being challenged, that they're so afraid of releasing from their lives.
