View Full Version : A Chink in the "EMS" Commissioner Armor?

The EMS "team" just got elected to the Sumter board of commissioners. At a recent meeting, seems there was a difference of opinion between "M" and "E"/"S" on One Sumter. Not sure what the true story is, all I know is "M"'s wife just threw "E" and "S" under the bus on FaceBook. I think she backed up over them a few times. One of her comments - "My fear is that Gary Lester and Mark Morse got to the E&S part of the team."
Having worked in a large corporation for many years, I can tell you that if I was "M" I would first try to work with E/S, understand the concerns, and then see if we can come to a solution or compromise. Throwing my colleagues under the bus (or having my wife do it) isn't a way to come to an agreeable solution on a topic.
Yet... here we are.... reading the dirty laundry of our commissioners.

I fully expected them to clash on that issue. That's why I didn't vote for M. He switched from dem to republican just to get elected. His wife's antics are nothing new, either.

Well that answered THAT part of the question. I now know who "M" is. I am very concerned that the new guys are gonna try to overthrow the CDD form of government and make it more like the old timey democratic stuff going on in Orlando. I don't want to be like Orlando. I like the way this place is run now and we all need to be very aware of the attempts to change things. If it ain't broke. DON'T fix it.

There was a chink before the election, and/or early in the process. S(and possibly E), didn't like the rhetoric and posts that M was doing! He/they were trying to separate themselves from him on that!

Doubtful. This is not the first time you have suggested that. I wouldn't continue to fret about it.

Corporations are run by professionals with common goals, local governments by amateurs and their misguided view of how politicians should act, and its more personal than professional.

How is this entire thread not a 100% political commentary complete with hopes that nothing will come here that oh my god might look like policies supported by democrats? But apparently commenting on chinks in the armor of presumed monolithic alliances is fine now. So I present the words of congressman Anthony Gonzalez (https://twitter.com/anthonygonzalez) who points out the even people who campaign together can discover that those they supported are capable of 100% lies to their constituents [Dec 23]

My understanding is that local politics is allowed. National politics is banned. I'm glad they allow local politics. Sometimes there are some insightful comments. (There never is with national politics!!!!).

Can't find where in this statement where it says that local politics are okay? NO POLITICAL REFERENCES ARE ALLOWED ON THE WEBSITE. USERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DIRECT COMMENTS TOWARD ANOTHER USER. DIRECT THEM TO THE TOPIC. VIOLATION OF THESE RULES CAN LEAD TO ACCOUNT TERMINATION AND BAN.
Am I missing something?

Local politicians become national politicians. Always be mindful at your vote at local levels.

A chink in the armor is still way better than no armor at all! Reasonable checks and balances on absolute power is never a bad thing. Merry Christmas.

I'm good with checks and balances. And I'm good with healthy debate and disagreement. But when one of the commissioner's wife throws the two other people that ran as a team under the bus on social media? That's just "bush league" to me.
I don't see the other two commissioners waging a war on FaceBook. Maybe they're too smart.

That husband and wife team are only focused on the no kill pound issue. I see him lasting only term. Getting rid of One Sumter might be bad for the average TV taxpayer , besides the developer.

I have a friend that left Celebration because of the way that it was being run changed. He now lives in The Villages.

Is M the guy whose biggest priority seems to be no kill animal shelters?

Facebook representation amounts to a little less than 1/3 of the population.

That's his wifes biggest priority. Revenge against the developer is a close second, imo.

This EMS has been from the beginning.

Plenty of politics in corporations and lots of back stabbing to get the corner office with a view. Just look at Boeing and the Max and the massive auto industry bailout.
The no kill shelter was approved 4 to 1 and a credit to those who fought for it.

Their focus (the Miller's) seems to be One Sumter, a no-kill shelter and sticking it to The Developer.
As a Villager, I don't see the benefit of repealing One Sumter. Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like repealing One Sumter would potentially give more power to non-Villages portions of Sumter County (depending on if The Villages Sumter would get 3 commissioners or 2).
Another person stated that "Facebook... is a place for self and friends showing off and gratification." I agree. I've noticed that the vast majority of posters in the Oren Miller Sumter County Facebook page are from Southern Sumter County. Those posters are asking for a lot - new roads, a square with entertainment like The Villages, schools like The Villages Charter Schools, a new playground, a pool for kids, etc.
