Free golf with impatient villagers who must be home by certain time for what ever reason breathing down your back...No thanks

The Villages tomorrow.

If it looks like that tomorrow, the courses will be closed all day and saved from the carnage. Perhaps they will offer free golf on New Years day as a make up date, NOT, that's the day winter rates start :gc:

I guess this is like polar bear club up north that break the ice on a lake to take a swim. Not my idea of fun. But if you do this wear a mask.

Such a humbug. Those of us who play on Christmas day, do so because it has become a fun tradition. There is no carnage or destroying of the courses.

Sorry to contribute to the "humbug", but that is absolutely, positively, unequivocally WRONG. I've sat on my lanai and witnessed it year after year. If you are playing, all you see is your group and the group ahead, I can watch a dozen or more go by. Here's a taste of what happens, from my previous post.

I live on a champ course, and carnage is far too gentle a word to describe what happens. Carts driven on greens and through bunkers, 4 or 5 deep divots, unfilled, just from "practice" swings, deep ruts from driving right through the wet areas that are clearly marked, clubs thrown further than the ball was hit, 17 zillion F bombs, 8 year old children driving a cart, and the list goes on. I would suggest you use the word "apocalyptic" instead

I hope it's not too cold for you and you get a chance to play, and it sounds like your group does the right thing and take care of the course, but that is not the general rule.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

That happens all the time. It’s wrong and if an “ambassador” sees it, he or she should say something, but won’t. Doesn’t just happen on free golf day

Now here's a new type of carnage I haven't seen before. While golfers were playing a hole, some idiot was walking his dog on the fairway. I won't mention what the dog was doing, nor what the owner wasn't doing , because it will just lead to another dog poop thread.

Amazing they'll stand for hours for free golf. No matter the weather
yet the same people will moan and cry if they have to spend more than 10 mins in line every 4 years on Nov 3rd

Looks like Orange Blossom has been spared the carnage that I never see each year. So far today not one golfer has gone by on the back nine.

The winter rates are almost the same as last year...they just seem like more because they kept the SUMMER rates until now. We didn't pay the transitional "fall" rates.

2:15 PM and the first group of golfers just went by. The carnage has begun. Observed golfer not replacing the snow rake properly back into the trap. Jingle balls jingle balls - oh what fun it is to watch the newbies play golf today.

Played Hemingway today 9 holes at 11:30. Played by myself A twosome way ahead of me. Played it in 90 minutes. Enjoyed myself immensely. First time playing a championship course.Had two birdies.

Played Cherry Hill last Christmas and hit a ball in the left rough on #3. An ambassador was close by to make sure that I wasn't hitting from someone's property. He said that there are a lot of players on that day who weren't aware of the do's and don'ts.

Yeah, right. Can you honestly say that none of the 4,000+ people that have played on the "free day" in years past did no damage to the course? Didn't think so.

Driving through wet areas, driving too close and onto the greens, taking divots with practice shot after practice shot and not filling them in, putters being slammed onto the greens...... need I go on?

Same here as drcar; don't play or, better yet, go play off campus, spend the time and money to drive there and back; what have you gained? The courses off campus really aren't any better.

Go play off campus, there are plenty of people to take your place; over 3.5 million rounds here last year. Go play off campus.

You mean the same type of damage that takes place on a daily basis here? Your argument is weak, and this discussion is getting old. I can think of at least 50+ posts over the last year of people complaining of bad behavior and golf etiquette on the courses...executive and champ courses alike.

But hey, let’s all have a Merry Christmas, and I’ll be willing to bet the courses will still be there tomorrow.

The courses are safe. less play than on a normal day.......at least on Palmer. I would venture to guess every champ course saw less than normal play.

The same people complain about carnage on Christmas day year after year. My observation - boxing day life back to normal. If there is carnage that would do undo damage to detour people from further play the owner of the golf course would surely take notice. It's their wallet that would be impacted. So please explain why the owners (developers) would allow this practice to exist if it hits them where it hurts.

It was a great day of golf. Hardly anyone on the course. Very comfortable in the sun.
