Did you see the GMC television commercial where the guy buys his wife a red GMC and himself a black GMC for Christmas? But, she takes the black one instead. I think most people believe that the vehicles are identical except for the color. But, if you look closely, the black one is a pickup truck and the red one is an SUV. So, the guy wanted a pickup truck and ends up with an SUV. Bummer. What would you do if you were the guy? Or, the woman?

It starts by her buying him sunglasses. The commercials are getting dumber than the shows.

A neighbor of mine and his wife drive matching black Land Rovers. He had bought her one and he liked it so much he got one for himself. I cannot tell the two vehicles apart except for the license plates.

Heck no! That is a big investment which depreciates right after you sign on the dotted line and if she doesn't like the car, you'll rue the day you made that decision. It'll be remembered for eternity.
These commercials are so silly.

I’d buy a Prius. With the seat down, I can carry boxes six feet long. I don’t need a truck or an SUV, and my Prius’s 55 mpg is five times what my girlfriend gets with her tank (Ford F-250, 11 mpg).

Not true. Look at it again. When they show the two vehicles that the guy purchased, the black one, selected by the woman, is clearly a pickup truck and the red one is an SUV. Yes, there is another scene at the end that shows a photo of two SUVs. But, these are obviously two different vehicles, and the man and woman are not in the final scene.

Someone said it’s a silly commercial. I agree but it is cute and more importantly we’re talking about it so silly or cute it successfully made its point - get people to remember it and even talk about it. I thought about telling my wife that I was buying her a new car for her birthday (October 6th) then decided against it. I traded in her 2014 CR-V for a new 2020. If she liked the 14 why wouldn’t she love the 20 with all the new technology ? I was right. She loves it. If I took her the salesman would have tried to sell her the shiniest most expensive car in the showroom. Of course I bought myself a new Odyssey a couple of weeks ago. She loves her CR-V so much she doesn’t even want to drive my Odyssey. If I bought them both at the same time who knows what would’ve happened.

It's a commercial folks. What do you mean she will change her mind once she parks it a few times. I used to drive a big 66 pass. School bus. Try parking one of those at the end of the day between two other buses. Backing up. I also trained people to get their CDL license. You know the most difficult people to train. Men. Most thought what does a woman know about training me to drive one of these monsters. It was fun watching them out on the road in neighborhoods with narrow streets. Light bulb came on "she knows what she's talking about" LOL. So don't say wait till she parks that big vehicle she'll want the Suv. LOL

I don't think returning a new vehicle is usually an option at most dealers.
In a case like this where your buying two vehicles and one of them is to be a gift the dealer would most likely work with you. You would buy one of the vehicles outright and put it in your name. The vehicle that is going to be a gift you would would put a down payment on and have your insurance company put a binder on it before adding it to your policy. The dealer would deliver the car with the understanding you would come in and have your wife sign the papers the next day so it will be in her name. As nothing is final if she wants to exchange it for a different vehicle there would be no problem. You would need to have excellent credit to do this and it would help immensely if you had an ongoing relationship with the dealer.

As for the person who said the ad worked, I must disagree--the commercial is cute, but I couldn't tell you what brand the trucks are. On the other hand, the ad where he gives her a puppy and she gives him a truck, I remember what brand the puppy is, but not the truck!

I found that commercial to be somewhat obscene, in light of the times. People and businesses are struggling to keep their heads above water, and they are showing people getting $100,000 worth of new cars! Gee, which one do I want? Please...let’s show more sensitivity in these tough times!
Are you selling houses, or should people just stay put? People with enough affluence to buy two cars (or a house) are helping the economy and the workers in the auto/house construction areas.

You never surprise any spouse, male or female with a very expensive gift bought with funds belonging to both parties, as in a marriage, unless you are 100 % sure it's exactly what they want. The guy was stupid and now pays the price by watching his wife drive the truck of his dreams. Hopefully he'll learn from it. Take her to the dealership next time and let her pick her gift.

I did give that one some thought. I immediately thought it was a bit of a "throw back" to the days when "the nagging wife" was a staple character on TV. Males in the villages over about 70 were "raised" on these ideas - but I digress. I then thought - this could be "What a nice guy, he adores that women" but also quickly thought "He knows she won't happily sleep with him unless he cooperates".
I cannot really answer "What would you do?" since I am not a "guy" and I do think they dynamics of a wife work differently, on average, from the dynamics of a husband. But if my husband wanted a vehicle I had intended for myself my response would depend on how attached I was to my choice. This is assuming - by the way - that the "exchange period" on vehicles had passed, because obviously if it were in effect, just exchange the vehicle neither wants. But if no exchange were possible - If I did not care all that much, I'd let him have his preferred vehicle. If I did care, I'd tell him so, and together we were work out who "cared most" about the issue. I always though that might be a good way to work out conflict in marriage - trying to see who "cared most" about an outcome and letting them "have their way" if no compromise could be found and no one could be convinced to change their mind.
I also thought "Dad would have done that for Mom because he adored her". Probably my nicest, least cynical response to the commercial.
I'd of course have done it for any man I adored, but I have never cared all that much about the type of car I drive, so no big deal for me.

First of all, realistically, how many people buy someone a car for Christmas? We've all seen the commercials with the car parked outside either wrapped or with a bow on top, but does that really happen.
I would think that with all the money being spent on gifts, decorations and food that Christmas would be the last time that almost anyone would consider buying a car.
As far as the commercial goes, I would tell her that the black one is mine, (although I would never consider buying a pickup). If she didn't like that, I would go back to the dealer and tell them to exchange it for whatever she wants.
But overall, the whole premise is absurd.
