Seminole County is scheduling 65 and older for those that want to take a ride to get it. You need to get an appointment online. Since Sumter has been quiet on the subject there are options. You do not need to be a Seminole resident. I understand that Orange County is doing the same.

Personally I'd prefer to wait until it gets closer to home. If it's in these other counties, it is (hopefully) because the government has determined that these counties need it more than others. I won't be in line to deprive a resident of something they should have first dibs on, even if "you do not need to be a Seminole resident."
Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should.

According to the news report, you must be a Seminole County resident. There are 8 counties in Florida that were selected as a pilot program to get the vaccine. I don't think it has anything to do with a specific need.

That is incorrect.....there is no requirement to be a Seminole or an Orange County resident and when Sumter starts there will be no requirement that you be a resident of Sumter. The doses go to the State and then dispersed so a resident of Florida has access to Florida vaccines.

I don’t understand how this vaccine is being distributed. I was listening to an epidemiologist last week who to me made a lot of sense. He said the purpose of the vaccine is to stop people from dying and the way the government is going about the distribution is all wrong. He argued that by the end of January there should be fifty million doses available. That is enough to vaccinate all hospital and nursing home staff and patients as well as everyone in the country over sixty five. This would have the biggest impact in lowering the number of deaths from this virus and taking pressure off the hospitals. Once this is accomplished then you start vaccinating the rest of the population from oldest to youngest. This made a lot of sense to me. It seems to me that all the states are doing their own thing and there really is not one specific plan for distribution which makes no sense to me at all.

At the risk being pile driven to the ground by anti-maskers, the latest recommendation from the CDC is to continue wearing masks even if you have received the vaccine. They believe the vaccine protects you (or at least makes the symptoms from the virus very mild), but there is no guarantee you can't get infected afterwards and not pass it on to another (unvaccinated) person. More time is needed to determine if it truly rids the body of the virus or it makes the effects much more manageable.

Not true. The woman I spoke with who schedules the appointments, 407-665-0000, said that anyone can make an appointment and get the vaccine. There is no requirement to live in or be staying in Seminole County. I also asked her if you needed to be a Florida resident, but she didn't know the answer.

Vaccine distribution in Central Florida as of 9 AM Tuesday, Dec 29. Some counties are accepting registrations. Others are not.
Sporadic. Also complicated by the fact that Florida has lumped the CDC groups of >75 together with those >65.
The two articles below are current (Dec 29) and describe central and southern Florida.
These Central Florida counties are distributing COVID-19 vaccinations for residents 65 and older; here’s how to make an appointment (https://www.wftv.com/news/local/these-central-florida-counties-are-distributing-covid-19-vaccinations-residents-65-older/7YRDHBVC7BAN7I2BXUM7EW2W5A/)

It cannot be based on the highest number. That would always entitle the largest population centers to get a priority.
That larger population will also have more people that do not mask or social distance. Whereas many other locations that adhere to the guidelines resulting in lower cases are not treated fairly.
The best result will be scientifically based on statistical results.
Setting aside the political and special interest group arm waving will allow the process to be more efficient.

As a for resident of Seminole and Orange County and an elected official, I can tell you the problem.
Sumter county has failed with the 5 “Ps”. The County Manager should have been on top of the entire issue. Yes, The Villages should have been at the front of the general population. I’ve been disappointed with his performance since the 25% tax issue was on the table. He has not displayed the planning skills necessary to of a leader.
You should be on a list for shot NOW , if that is your choice.

Do you have a reliable reference for that? I am not sure that is correct. I believe the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is OK for 2 weeks when stored with dry ice and then still good for 5 days after thawing. I believe the plan is essentially "just in time" shipping.

The reason I enjoy this blog is because of the funny stuff that people post. Just because some areas have more people does not mean that more people do not wear a mask. How can you know that? Just because the numbers in cities are higher does not necessarily mean they are more likely to die. The age group getting the disease is younger and less likely to be seriously affected. The dead rate is still small percentage wise and the way they are distributing the vaccine makes sense, the more vulnerable go first. Why would you take it from people in another county? Don’t you think they deserve to get it first, if they are residents of that county? The topper is having people continue to wear masks after getting the vaccine. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Why take the vaccine at all if it is not going to protect you?

The vaccines protect you from the MOST severe complications of the CV. It keeps you alive, functional, and out of the hospital. Beyond that, not much is YET known. It is designated to be - an EXPERIMENTAL vaccine for use in countries that have NOT otherwise mitigated CV. New Zealand has about the same population as South Carolina. New Zealand has 25 total deaths to date - South Carolina has over 5,000 deaths. It did NOT have to be this bad in the US.
Going forward - the vaccines are predicted by Washington State U. to save about 25,000 people nationwide between now and May. BUT, INCREASED mask-wearing could (?) SAVE 56,000. Ask yourself - are we a people with empathy and concern for our fellow mankind OR are we brutal, caveman-mentality types that will be greedy and self-centered and burn our masks after getting vaccinated? I hate to say BUT I believe that the latter will prevail !!!!!!!

So the next question is: Do you need to be a Florida RESIDENT? Or can snowbirds and snowflakes get in line ahead of Florida residents?
I received a reply from the Florida Department of Health this morning to this question:
“Yes. Once the COVID-19 vaccine is widely available, non-residents and part-time residents will be eligible to receive the vaccine in Florida. Currently COVID-19 vaccines are strictly limited to certain groups.”
Each can interpret for themselves but the inclusion of “widely available” suggests that I, as a non-resident snowbird and Florida property owner, will have to wait until the vaccine is available to the general public. Guess I may have to return to Ohio if I want to receive the vaccine in the 65+ age group.

From a hospital up north, paraphrasing from a senior high level meeting: "we need to find socially distanced facilities which can handle the numbers and the observation times required. These locations will not be doctor's offices, as the facilities aren't equipped to handle this process."
So, they are making preparations for clinics specially set up for vaccine storage, social distancing, and observational requirements, as well as being prepared for reactions. The expected time frame for general vaccination is early February. So please put on your operational execution hats, and realize that there is alot more to distribution than just a sign up list, and vaccine shipments.
And all states public health systems are in charge of distribution in every state. So just remember that when you are voting for all elected official positions: at some point, it can't be all about me, but about the entire state and the entire population. . . and the size of the population to be managed even in today's world, is a significant operational execution.. . .
we are closer to the end than at the beginning, but the end may seem farther away without patience as humans are involved in all aspects of the operation

I think that the selection of the counties may have been based on the number of cases in those counties. It would make sense to send it to where the most cases are. The Villages has the most susceptible people on the planet but the number of cases here has been relatively low. We must be doing a good job of social distancing and all of the other protocols.

The Florida Governor's photoshoot here in The Villages is a worrisome, greedy, and elitist example of corruption. It just causes unnecessary Social tension at a VERY tense time period. TV Land people need to remember the name of the shot recipients that "jumped the line" and ostracize them for their inappropriate action.
WHY? Because you wish to make this political?

You are correct. The news story was not.
Just another thing to remember. My husbands VA doctor said wherever you get the first dose you need to go to the same place for the second. Something to consider.

Of course. Time to track the number of threads closed by the usual suspects. Would be a simple way to keep the discussions going by giving a time out to the misbehavers.

Your post is to logical. Many here in TV have a me first attitude. Those who meet the criteria, over 65 with a validated chronic medical condition should be first in line. Hard to validate but guarantee many here will stretch the truth about their health so they can get in line. Having each governor and those in charge of areas of the state such as counties need to establish plan based on their population demographics. Many on this site whine about anything and everything, yet they’ll camp out in lawn chairs at 5:30 AM to get a free hat or smoothie at some store opening. Now they’re whining about why they’re not first in line to get a vaccine.

Try Windows 10 for a reason
What are the common problems with Windows 10?
Troubleshooting the Most Common Windows 10 Problems (2019 Guide) 1. Computer won’t turn on 2. Keyboard or mouse doesn’t work 3. Not enough disk space 4. Removing a defective Windows Update 5. Facing multiple Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) 6. When a DLL File is missing 7. Unwanted extensions and pop-ups on your browser etc. etc.
Wait. Is it April 1st already? That is probably the funniest post I have read on here in YEARS! Oh wait, you were joking right? WIN10 is why no one trusts Bill Gates about his pandemic warnings ! Where do you do your standup? I'd pay to watch. Good one!
Yes, you "just" replied to another post but you DID explain why you THOUGHT people don't trust Gates with reagrd to his pandemic knowledge. Maybe if you said they hate him because he is allegedly injecting people with micro-chips instead of Covid-19 vaccine I could understand.

Yea, wait till 100,000+ people try to call their 1 phone line for available 2500 doses! Did you hear what went on in Broward? Even faxing would probably be more reliable! :D Another poor preparedness exercise in futility. Props to those who get through. There's REALLY got to be a better way.

Dr Fauci disagrees with Bill Gates. Who should people believe??? I trust Dr Fauci on the vaccine and those scientists that developed it.
---------------------
Testifying before Congress on Friday, Dr. Anthony Fauci repeatedly credited President Trump for coronavirus policy decisions that saved lives.
Those measures included Trump’s decisions to ban flights from China, the UK and the rest of Europe, and the administration’s “Fifteen Days to Slow the Spread” quarantine policy, initially ordered in mid-March and then extended to a total 30 days.
Appearing before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Response, Fauci said he participated in, and approved of, all of those policies — and that he believes they all resulted in the saving of lives.

I think that the selection of the counties may have been based on the number of cases in those counties. It would make sense to send it to where the most cases are. The Villages has the most susceptible people on the planet but the number of cases here has been relatively low. We must be doing a good job of social distancing and all of the other protocols.
I don't know about that. I was at LSL NewYear's Eve and folks were packed so tight at the outside bars of City Fire and Red Sauce, I'm surprised they could even move. The square seemed packed too but hubby and I stayed in our golf cart to listen to the music. I felt much safer away from those crowds.
Johnny Wild was great as usual, the guys wearing white dinner jackets and the girls decked out in silver dazzling dresses. They gave a great show.
Happy New Year to everyone!

I write my own post then back it up with facts. In this case it was Dr Fauci's testmony before congress which is in the public domain. Sorry, forgot where I got it but a web search should turn it up. Gates was opposed to the travel ban to China last Spring which according to Dr Fauci saved thousands of Americans lives. Other nations quickly followed our example and instituted travel bans to China. (Think of it as social distancing between nations). Had Gates advice been taken many more would have died as in NY where Cumo sent covid infected people to nursing homes. Some say Gates predicted a pandemic but he had no medical knowledge to make that forecast. There was a report that China was careless at the Wuhan lab in bat experiments and perhaps that was the basis of his prediction. But if he really believed his prediction why didnt he use his charitable foundation to make N95 masks which were going to be desperately needed. Instead he funds WHO and their China coverup of how the virus started.
Apparently, I stepped on someones toes (not you) when I suggested people hate Gates because of Windows 10 but I didnt realize anyone took Gates seriously for medical advice. You seem very knowledgeable about Windows 10 so perhaps it has improved a lot since being released. I am going to stick with Windows 7 however as it meets my needs which is mainly photo editing with Photoshop.

So if you are a Snowbird from another State and not a permanent Florida resident, you cannot receive the vaccine in Florida???

I don't think anybody knows the answer to that just yet. But I'm thinking that yes "most" likely you will be able to get it. Don't run back up north. Lets see what the plan is going to be.

It seems strange that Seminole County will vaccinate non-county residents because they claim the vaccine came from the Federal Government. But, Marion County is limiting their vaccines to Marion County residents only. Why is Marion County different?
Marion county one of the largest in the state.

I had to reconfigure win10 after I bought a computer that came with it, to make it emulate win95, which is how I had win7 configured. I'm a DOS baby, my first love. Second love was win 3.11 for workgroups. After that, it's all just inconvenient detail.
But win10 works fine now, they've gotten the kinks out of it and their security suite is actually superior to Norton, AV, and McAffee. There is -no- security suite that works efficiently with win7 anymore, it is considered obsolete and unsupported. So if you use win7 to access the internet at all - e-mail, browsing, anything - you are vulnerable.
You're right that Bill Gates is not a doctor. But he is a scientist. He has studied more in the last 10 years about medical science than most doctors will study about it in a lifetime. Not about medicine, per se. But about the science of medicine. He is an actual expert on many subjects. Even on toilets. The man is truly amazing, a more "hip" earthly (non-quantum) version of Stephen Hawking.

Thanks for the info on the antivirus suites.
I had Norton and got a virus that took a picture of me with my computer camera then sent me an email with my picture saying I was wanted by the FBI and had to send $300 to clear my name. My neighbor fell for it but negotiated it down to $100.
I had to take my computer to MMM to get rid of the virus and they installed Malwarebytes antivirus which still works and is free.
Most of the time I use my Ipad or Kindle and don't want to spend the money on a new computer if I can help it.
