You want to research flowers that grow in our zone. Then how much work you are willing to do. Color? Scent? When, they bloom? Etc etc etc. Roses are traditional. No shortage of colors, scents etc.
To grow them well, bug and fungus free is a lot of work and a lot of spraying.

I have not had much luck growing cut flowers here compared to Illinois. I do enjoy planting flowers here year round that I can see while sitting out on our lanai, as well as in the front yard. The flowers that have grown well for me here include pentas, mandevilla (a flowering vine), salvia, and drift roses. Now I have perennial camellias and several winter annuals blooming, including petunias, pansies and geraniums. My favorite garden centers here are KB Landscapes and Fairfield Farms.
