Tried to register for the Good Golf School. Although the post says Thursdays there are only 2 in January (both full) and one the end of February. I did call in to the office and was told they fill quickly. I guess I’ll figure it out myself.

Not knowing anything about how it works I'd say go by there early/before it starts and see if you can fill a spot if someone cancels. No harm in trying

You could start off by getting the "good golf booklet" from any golf shop or starter shack.

Maybe they should add classes? You know - supply/demand.

When I took the class there was about 60 attendees in one of the meeting rooms at Colony Cottage Rec Center and the chairs were side-by-side. I'm sure the current rules would require them space the chairs, so a full class is probably 30 people. Doesn't take long to fill up with a couple of hundred new residents every month.

I had been playing for a long time, so the biggest thing I took away from the class was the teetime system and how the free telephone system was a nightmare and I would pay the $8 a month and join the computer version. It's well worth even if you can figure out the phones, because if you want to grab an open teetime or if your a single and you want to put yourself in with threesome for example, it's the only way you can go online and see what is available. Of course on the day of play, you need to call the pro-shop to do that. They spend about an hour on the reservation system.

They also didn't really explain the wave system on the championship courses. Once you realize there are 3 starter shacks, one at each of the nines on a championship you see why the wave system is used. When making a request it's good to know the second wave starts at 11:56, so don't bother with putting in a request for example 10:30 to 11:30. With some of the class info combined with playing you'll figure what goes on.

I am surprised they don't have a virtual on-line class available. I typically prefer actually attending something rather than virtual, but given the demand (and need) for many people to get educated, an on-line class would seem to be a good option, especially during a pandemic.

Agree completely.

That's a terrific suggestion. All that info about obtaining tee times is like speaking Chinese to someone who is starting out for the first time - learning the game and its rules is more important

We've been trying to get into the Good Golf School since May!!! Of course, all classes were cancelled due to the pandemic, but we were able to register for a class in September.......and then that was cancelled. When the new class schedule came out starting in January, I tried to register both my husband and me and the system kept telling us we had a class scheduled for the past September. I ended up calling the tee time office where they had to manually cancel the September class and reschedule us for the January 14 class. It was a nightmare and took several calls and about a week to accomplish. Some sort of snafu with the system. I personally have been using the phone system to schedule our tee times and rarely have an issue. Granted, I may not be able to see what's available, how many players, men/women, but I only reserve open tee times and so far it's worked for us. At some point, I may switch over to the online system, but so far this is working. Maybe check with the tee time office to see if they might be able to help you with the Good Golf School! Good luck!!

Golfing for Dummies is available on Amazon. Good start for newbies perhaps.

We had a similar issue, signed up and class was cancelled. No one notified us. When I spoke with someone with the villages golf she suggested I download the good golf guide from the golf webpage. Contained almost all the info needed to understand the tee time system. Signed up for the villages net to book tee times $8/ month. We have never looked back. Folks at the starter shacks & other players are very helpful. Go for it!

This type of experience is going to be a continuing theme while TV keeps packing residents in. They will catch up with the demand eventually I suppose.
