I know our Villages Library does not offer e-books yet, but I did find a library with a nice selection.

The Free Library of Philadelphia will lend books to people out of state. The out of state fee is $15/year for a library card.

I signed up for a library card, and yesterday downloaded 2 books to my Nook. This looks like a great way to save money. I suppose they won't offer every book I might want, but they sure have a lot.

They system they use is Overdrive. You must download Adobe Digital Editions to use it. Then it works perfectly--at least on my Nook, and I believe the Sony e-reader. Not sure about the Kindle.

BTW it took about 3 weeks to get my library card. After waiting after my check cleared, I emailed them, and they e-mailed me back my card number.

Thanks for the info. If you read e-books on a regular basis, the $15 charge per year would pay for itself in no time.

I checked out the link, and it looks like a great site. They also have audiobooks, too...Fifteen dollars a year is worth it.

You made my day

I checked and the site does not support the Kindle.

I guess Kindle does not accept E- Pub. Nook, Sony e- Reader, and I Pad all do and can access electronic library books.
It sure does save a lot of money.

IF you have any questions, just send me a PM. It took a little bit to figure out how to do this, but now that I have it figured out, it is very easy.

Vista,

Thank you so much for the info on the Phila Free Library. Send away for my card and got in two weeks time. I'm impressed with the number of ebooks they have available, and after spending a bit of time figuring out how to download the books and move them over to my Nook, I am happily reading away. Well worth the $15 fee.

Do they have a lot of new bestsellers?

Just like a paper book, you can put your e-book on hold. They email you when it is available. I don't think I will find everything I want, but this has helped my budget quite a bit. If there is a particular book you want, search for it. It may or may not be there.
