Do no have any grass, only gravel landscaping. Having trouble finding anybody to do weed control. Deans, Massey and Tru-green will not do it for only gravel. Any suggestions?

We were told to use regular salt and it seems to work better than roundup or similar products.

Roundup.

Or as an alternative - Vinegar with some salt in it. Kills some weeds quickly. Others need a few applications. Works pretty good.

If you’re home few years old the weed barrier under rocks has enough dirt in it to sprout weeds. Over time wind blows dust in that builds up. Plus if previous owners planted plants and they died? Now you got hole in the ground cover barrier. I try roundup them while there are just sprouting, easier to kill that way.

What he said. Get a little squirt bottle and spend 5 minutes a month on it. No big deal

If you care at all about your health and the health of the creatures we coexist with, you might do some research on roundup and its link to cancer.

Go to Lowes and get a gallon of weed killer and spray your rocks.

Use this with the dish soap. Haven't tried it with the oil. Works really well.

Vinegar Weed Killer
• 1 Gallon White Vinegar
• 1 Tablespoon Liquid Dish Soap or Vegetable Oil
• 1 Cup Salt (only if you don’t want to replant there)

That recipe works really well if there isn't a weed fabric down under your stones. Liquid has a difficult time getting at the roots to kill the plant. You will kill anything above ground, may have to go back a couple of times to finish it off. Also, I use a lb of Epsom Salts instead of table salt.

Contact A Woman's Touch Landscaping on Facebook. Heather took care of our no grass lawn this week along with trimming. She did a great job.

The real key is to use a preemergent that stops weed seeds from germinating. When we lived in Key Largo, our entire lot was covered in pea rock (crushed coral). We would spray the preemergent every 4 months. It does not effect growing plants, so you can spray in flower beds and on foundation planting. PM me if you have any questions.

If you have the funds, remove the rocks and replace with a ground cover and pine straw. People learn too late that rock yards do not equal a maintenance free lawn, just a different type of work. I have found that while pine straw doesn't prevent weeds, it does help keep them at bay. Hand pulling is the most effective and doesn't add harsh chemicals to our shallow water table. Fernview farms recommends a good group of former employees who do this type of work. They are not cheap but are reliable.

I have tried just about all of the liquid weed killers, some with extended control. I even tried my friend’s “natural” vinegar/soap/salt recommendation. Regardless of what I tried, when I traveled from home for a few months, I would come back to weeds. So, I hired a landscaper (who never showed up, but did recommend using Preen). So, I bought some and spread it generously. Over a three month period, I had very minimal weeds and by that I mean almost none. It was amazing and I’m so happy I’m not spending time on weeds. I just picked up another container of it at Ace; this time I’m trying the extended control. Will see how that does, but I’m very optimistic.

Roundup Extended control. A few $$ more but kills and then inhibits seed germination

I do not use chemicals like round up. Need 30 percent vinegar to be truly effective with some dawn dish detergent and pulling. Stones are not care free and weeds will eventually grow. Climate here insures lots of growth.

Use any commercial or home made weed killer (look online) to kill existing weeds. Apply Preen every 3-6 months to prevent new weeds from sprouting. Preen will not kill anything but prevents weed seeds from sprouting and taking root.

Reality. What we want, what we demand is not natural. Nature hates a vacuum. Bare soil and something will grow there.

Endless solutions they all partly work.

I made a new years resolution to get my weeding done. I had all done, the day before new years. Confession, I was not early, I was two years late.

It is not just seeds. Our grass spreads not by seeds but by runners.

You will not win. Put up a good fight and be happy with that.

Oh, today is a good day to weed. Anyone coming over or do we need to start without you?

My suggestion would be to take out an old never recently used pitching wedge - have a few drinks - and beat the living Haydes out of those invading weeds - it would be great therapy for the times.

PLEASE don't use Round-up!!! It's banned in all of Europe and is killing our planet and the people on it! Look it up! The vinegar, Epsom salt and Dawn dish liquid (blue) works great!
