View Full Version : Tierra del Sol Golf Shop Warning

Although there is a request for patrons to the Tierra del Sol golf shop to wear a mask prior to entry, staff do not follow this recommendation. I have played there a couple of times and the same staff member has failed to wear a mask. A small shop with hundreds of entries by patrons, I would think this would be prime example for policy compliance. With the publicity in the local newspaper and postings on entry, this policy is not being followed at this venue. Enter at your own risk.

oh good grief...if you're worried you wear the mask. as long as the salesperson doesn't sneeze or cough on you you''re good.
As to Lottoguy....no ones asking for it...the likelyhood of someone catching the virus from a shopper wearing a mask is about nil. Please go panic somewhere else.

Ok everybody, don't worry since the guy won't sneeze or cough and its only a concern if it is on you. It doesn't matter if its a small room. He will only be around a few hundred people a day. Nothing here.

If you’re that concerned, would Dr Fauci recommend going to a pro shop to get your clubs regripped during Covid?

It is possible the employee has a medical condition that prevents him/her from wearing a mask.

I would stand very far away and ask the person to either put on a mask or call their supervisor over. If that failed I would go directly to the starter shack and explain to the starter that I couldn’t check in because of the mask-less employee. I would also ask to speak to the club professional. The one thing I absolutely would not do is go anywhere close to the mask-less employee.

So those of you fearful of those without masks....you disinfect every piece of mail? you wear gloves to the grocery store? you wear gloves to pump gas? you go shopping where others don't wear masks? you eat out? it's endless...if no one sneezes/coughs around you or on what you but or bring into your home then your concern is only partial....therefore irrational.
You can always just buy everything over the internet and have an expensive disinfectant booth set up at your house. If you are going to complain about the maskless then stop leaving your house as there are chances of getting the virus from other things that are just as likely to give you the virus.

Sir/Madam. I don't know how old you are, but it is not good to be inside a building with people not wearing masks. It is extremely dangerous for those who are over 65. We have learned mail is NOT a problem or a worry as a source of transfer. We do not eat out and have not eaten out since the early part of March when two close friends went with a group of ten to celebrate St. Patrick's day and the waitress had cold like symptoms. Six out of the ten contracted Covid-19 here in The Villages. One friend was in Ocala Hospital for ten days intubated. Her sister became so sick that someone had to take care of her at home and then she had to be transferred to the hospital and rehydrated.
Now that the Covid-19 virus from England is here, that version is EXTREMELY more contagious, not more deadly but more contagious. We do have the hope of the availability of blood serum from those who survived the virus and of course the vaccine is slowly becoming available to us. It is wise to be very careful now. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but the cases and the deaths have greatly increased in the last seven days around HERE.
The virus lives in the nasal oral cavity of those infected and they may show no symptoms. To older people, death is usually brought by pneumonia or some form of unusual clotting. And as you know, you die without the solace of any loved ones present. This is not ANYTHING TO MESS WITH.

The only mask that can filter out the tiny size of the Coronavirus is a N95 mask - the type used by health care professionals. The face diapers you see people wearing will not. If wearing a face diaper makes you feel better, just do it. But don't expect it to be much help.

Rarely do I take exception to, or even comment on, a Gracie post. In this case, I believe the impact to those near to her have understandably slanted her opinion. If I am in Walmart near the pharmacy and someone with COVID is in the frozen food section I don't believe being in the same building is a significant threat. We are both over seventy, over weight and along with her 95 year old mother have been eating out 5-7 meals a week in restaurants since restaurants reopened at 25% occupancy. We never wear what a subsequent poster describes as face diapers in restaurants. We do social distance as much as we can.
As of yesterday, 2,821 villagers have been identified as COVID positive or only approximately 2% of The Villages residents. The survival rate if you do get COVID is approximately 98%. That equates to a 0.04% of dying from COVID. We like the odds!
Take the precautions you feel are appropriate for your situation, but we refuse to accept the concept of a "new normal" and don't feel obligated to accommodate the paranoia of others at the expense of a "normal" lifestyle.

Dr Dr
The face diapers do help prevent YOU from contaminating others by blowing contaminated air with large particles out from your mouth or nose while speaking.
Thats why everyone is asked to wear them. To protect others.
Thanks for wearing yours. We all appreciate it.

This debate will never be settled. There will always be folks that refuse to wear a mask and complaining about it will change nothing. If you are that concerned then don't go out, stay inside your own house. Worrying and complaining will solve nothing.

I just quit one of the shops because 70% of those coming in would not wear a mask. I asked an individual coming in if he could put a mask on and he went nuts. Long story short that was my last customer as this was my last customer. I really enjoyed working at the CC but my health is more important. It's a shame that so many people here could care less about their neighbors.

Respectfully, you are incorrect. While COVID is very small, it travels by attaching to a larger particle. Those larger particles are captured by a "face diaper" as you put it. It drives me nuts when people like you choose to cherry pick facts to prove a point you wish to promote. Good grief...wearing masks protects others more than yourself. It's perfectly reasonable to expect golf shop staff to wear a mask.

I’ve played and paid at the Tierra del Sol many times and occasionally the staff person behind the counter does not have a mask on but hanging from his ear. Maybe he scratched his nose and forgot to put it back on, but then again if your wearing a mask your chances of getting infected are extremely minimal not to mention the fact that when you pay for the round you are about three feet away from the staff person at a minimum. The same poster who started this thread I would bet doesn’t play with a mask on and doesn’t maintain a minimum of six feet from other players in his group at all times. When all this is over and under control you’ll start to see validated studies that will refute some of the opinions, and that’s what they are, of many professional and non professional individuals.

Did you actually read the article you cited????? It dealt exclusively with different kinds of masks preventing the spread of COVID to others, nothing about any protective value to the wearer. Some masks MAY help protect the wearer in SPECIFIC situations. (driving alone in your car is not one of them)

You should probably play somewhere else. Unless there is a posted policy that everyone must wear a mask then everyone doesn't have to wear a mask. There is no law. So, if there is no policy and you don't like the fact that they do not wear masks, then play somewhere else.

Have you read Dr Pierre Kory's article on Masks? It's detailed and discusses some of the recent mask studies that have come out. It's sort of a follow up from his July Op Ed that was published in USA Today.
I like how he boils it down to the 4 Ds. Density, Duration, Dimensions, Draft. Violate any of those and unless it's an N95, you can get sick.

This is a very thoughtful post and I agree with most of it, not that you OR many people care what I think. I am a retired Preschool teacher who then became a Reebok rep for several years. I am NOT a medically educated person. We have a daughter born with a congenital issue that made her hospitalized many times and made me very respectful of legitimate medicine . I am a firm believer in finding an excellent physician and taking her/his advice.
I suspect that we will, as you say, find out after the fact, a lot of things about this damned virus. How exactly it is spread, why some people get sicker or die and others have few symptom etc.
But I am STILL an annoying old woman. Six feet (not three) is social distance and if you are old and catch Covid-19 you are still in far more danger than the kids in school. It is better to be safe than sorry. We are near the end of this pandemic. Get the vaccine as soon as you can everybody. I so enjoy this Forum.

Indoors are 15 times more dangerous than outdoors. And no one except God knows when someone is about to sneeze and maybe his sneeze happened 2 minutes before you walked in - what then? With the NEW strain of CV around and the helicopters taking patients from The Village hospitals at an increasing rate, now is the time for MORE caution, not less.

My wife and I were at Tierra del Sol last Sunday, and it was true. There was a staff member walking around inside without a mask on. And he went outside and then came back inside again, still without a mask. From the look of it, I doubt that he forgot to put it on. This should not be allowed - especially by facilities that are owned and operated by The Villages. Management should step in and do something about it.
And to all those who think masks are not effective. Seriously? After all the evidence that's been provided?

As the poster, that was my point exactly since management is the one requesting masks and this wasn't the first time this same individual violated his own policy. This was pointed out to Golf the Villages previously apparently it wasn't effective. Small room with out effective ventilation with hundreds of patrons is probably part of reason that The Villages Health and Daily Sun has been having an increased awareness campaign.

Neither is Fauci. He is a nut case who has been wrong about every single thing.
I completely disagree with you. He had lack of information at the beginning but he is a very intelligent person who has valid information about this Pandemic, and is dispensing it ethically. He knows as much as anyone could have who is in the midst of an unprecedented event that is accruing information as it goes along. Dr. Fauci is NOT a "nut case" and has not been influenced by ANYTHING but scientific information. There is so much hatred and misinformation and conspiracy theories out there. I think Anthony Fauci is a person who has proved himself in this job for many years.

Another total oversimplification. Wear a mask when? where? under what circumstances?
Indoors when unable to maintain social distancing?---yes, of course
Outdoors sitting in your driveway alone?---certainly not
Driving your car alone? Seems idiotic yet I saw at least 7 drivers doing that today.
You cannot make a blanket statement like that to cover all situations, and there isn't any "scientist" who thinks you can

On and on it goes. Two sides to this debate and cant agree. How are we going to agree on the bigger things happening?
What is a bigger thing than ones health?

oh good grief...if you're worried you wear the mask. as long as the salesperson doesn't sneeze or cough on you you''re good.
As to Lottoguy....no ones asking for it...the likelyhood of someone catching the virus from a shopper wearing a mask is about nil. Please go panic somewhere else.
Where is your scientific evidence

Another total oversimplification. Wear a mask when? where? under what circumstances?
Indoors when unable to maintain social distancing?---yes, of course
Outdoors sitting in your driveway alone?---certainly not
Driving your car alone? Seems idiotic yet I saw at least 7 drivers doing that today.
You cannot make a blanket statement like that to cover all situations, and there isn't any "scientist" who thinks you can
No one said masks cover all situations. Sigh. There certainly has been enough information put out by the scientists that dictate when masks are needed: People age 2 and older should wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in their household.
When you wear a mask, you protect others as well as yourself. Masks work best when everyone wears one.
A mask is NOT a substitute for social distancing. Masks should still be worn in addition to staying at least 6 feet apart, especially when indoors around people who don’t live in your household.
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol after touching or removing your mask.
Masks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with other people who live in your household. However, some localities may have mask mandates while out in public, please check for the rules in your locality. Happy?

Extremely! and well said I 110% agree. Of course, it makes the "town fathers" in those mask mandate communities total idiots. Let's hope the new national leader doesn't do the same, as he previously stated he would
PS: I doubt it is "no one", after all, those people cycling alone or driving alone with a mask must think they are in a situation that warrants it. As Momma always said---"stupid is as stupid does"

After watching yesterday's hearings, it seems there is a lot of mask touching...
