I love driving in my golf cart but these donkeys that need to go 25, 30 or 35 mph passing people causing issues for other following the rules. What is the rush unless they are in a hurry to die. We like to enjoy ourselves and do go 20-21but I don’t understand the rush. The one that had to pass me tonight proceeded to then turn 20 feet down the road.

So how do you deal on the interstate when they're going 80-90 mph??? Some folks aren't necessarily in a hurry, but instead don't wish to waste time in a golf cart on a path.

It is not a waste. As for the interstate this are 3 or 4 lanes designed to be passing. The single lane paths are not designed for it, totally different situation.

23-25mph sure, but I have never watched a cart keep up @ 30-35 unless it was plated. Countless hours for 6 years, carts have never passed a car where we live.

I'd love to see the cops show up some day and radar these unregistered motor vehicles (carts that can exceed 20mph). They would certainly rake in some dough handing out $250 tickets, and the courts will add to it to the tune of around $500. My cart cannot go faster than the legal speed limit of 20mph, but I get passed all the time by some Yamaha that will do 23mph. There is a reason for the 20mph limit - the brakes, suspension etc of a golf cart is not designed to be safe at speeds faster than this.

I was the same way. I had my Yamaha set to go 25 mph for about five years, and I saw a cop with a radar gun on Bailey's Trail sitting back by the pump station by hole #1 at Allamanda. He was shooting down the cart path, luckily I wasn't speeding. I figured, it's not worth it to get to the course five minutes quicker, and if you have an accident what about your insurance. I dialed the cart back about 3 years ago and it doesn't seem to take any longer to get there.
I did have a Yamaha pass me unlike any I've ever seen on O'Dell while I was en route to Havana about 3 months ago. His wheels stuck out beyond the body about 3" and he was going about 35 mph. He was in the cart lane and the car lane both. When he passed I looked for a tag and he had no tag. Even a street legal is not allowed to go that fast. His engine was very loud, he went by so quick I couldn't get a good look at the cart or the driver.

Not sure which is more dangerous, people driving well above 20 mph, or those that crawl along very slowly causing people to get frustrated and pass in sometimes unsafe situations. Why can’t everyone just set their carts to max out at 20 mph and drive at that speed?

There are times when I want to pass someone but can't because my cart is limited to 20 mph. The driver in front of me is slowing down a few mph every few seconds to look around or doesn't keep the pedal pegged. If I have a long stretch of path to safely pass I don't bother because the other driver may decide to peg his cart while I'm passing and I won't be able to complete the pass. I've only had this happen once and that was enough to just sit behind everyone after that. I'm not in a hurry but it's nice to just put the pedal to the floor and think about other things. Changing the rear differential gears would give me the speed I need to pass someone safety if the desire arises again. The downside is not being able to just put the pedal on the floor and just go with the flow at 20.
Does anyone know a guy that can swap out the gears in a 2020 Yamaha? Or the cost of doing it? Asking for a friend.

I am amazed at the rude, stupid comments. The rules are always being ignored, especially in speeding golf carts. Enforce the rules and you get obedience, especially when you hit them in the wallet. I ran my car and my golf cart and it runs about 19 to 20 miles an hour, which is appropriate. I wish the cops would beef up their coffers with tickets for speeders, they deserve it.

Your batting 0 for 2. It's considered driving an unregistered vehicle and is a second degree misdemeanor with fines up to $500 and 60 days in jail. Normally first offense at the courthouse in Bushnell is about $450 and no jail time. Don't wear shorts or you'll sit all day in court and be called last. Also you'll need to bring a letter from a golf cart mechanic certifying your cart has been dialed back to the legal speed of less than 20 mph.

Has anyone been on Bichara Ave. lately? It is a 20 MPH speed limit for cars and carts. Cars go at least 40 and with all the restaurant turn-in's look out the cars will cut you off at the entrance like you do not even exist.
Oh yes, then there are the cross streets with no stop signs on Bichara Ave. Guess what, you better stop in your cart and cross carefully or you will be crushed by a vehicle crossing Bichara. Carts beware!!!

You're absolutely correct. I remember about two years ago several posters complained about getting tickets for going 26 on Bichara. That's the road with Applebees, Burger King, KFC/Taco Bell, AAA Office and a whole bunch of businesses, and going 40 mph is dangerous. Yes, getting a ticket for going only going 6 mph over the speed limit is tough, but it's really necessary on that stretch of road.

An endless issue. People do not will not follow rules unless they are enforced and they are not.
I'm not sure how it goes. I do understand that if you are caught speeding it will cost you around $500. Imagine a police officer in traffic court. Your honor I clocked his red yamaha doing 30 mph. His plate number? There are no plates your honor.
No solution will be perfect. Plates? Random stops to check your speed setting?
Perhaps, like drunk driving in some places you loose your car if you are caught driving drunk. My cart is set at the legal speed. I had one damn fool in a blue golf cart so ****ed she followed me home.

I only saw 2 carts pulled over in that time. Speeding threats in paper are just scare tactics. Just like everything else TV doesn’t want make anybody mad to wear they don’t like TV. TV is a privilege to live there but if TV have rules follow them, the rules there aren’t that bad!
Re: speeding threats.
You do not need to catch everyone. You do need to catch enough so that it is a REAL threat. Far as a golf cart, you do need to be a certain age, sober etc but you do not need to have plates or a license. Thus, issuing a ticket, I don't know what is needed but it is obviously difficult-perhaps why it isn't often done.
As stated in another post of mine. Imagine a cop in traffic court. He was in a red yamaha doing 25 mph. Hum, how do you know it was him? Plate-none. License-none.
How did you determine he was doing 25. Well I blocked traffic while I used my speedometer. When was your speedometer ever checked that it properly reads 25 mph?
As to saving five minutes over a five mile trip, likely it is far less than that. There are stop signs. There are legal drivers in front of you etc. I doubt it but hopefully someone with think and wonder. They are what they are and likely were always like that,

Good point. There are 3 groups in TV Land driving around. 1 ) The residents that are retired and take their time driving close to the speed limit on the interior (inside the gates) low-speed roads. 2 ) The residents that are retired and drive their cars and golf cars AS IF they were still working and are late for work. (they even "soup-up" their golf cars). 3 ) The non-retired drivers of commercial trucks such as the lawn service people that typically drive WAY above all speed limits. They are young, impulsive, dead-end types with little regard for their own future - let alone, YOURS. Many, not all, are paid weekly and are undependable losers from the bottom of the gene pool. They are potential criminals that walk and drive among the vulnerable senior residents. They can act as scouts and reconnaissance agents to "tip-off" and get rewarded by their evening shift of breaking and entering fellow low-lives.
.......It is no wonder that they speed through the low-speed limit residential streets with their adrenaline-filled, illegal-drug-filled veins bulging with rage against authority. The ONLY recourse for the Village residents to offset this gangland horror on the streets is to cut their own grass or pay ONLY retired residents to cut their grass. Do your part to prevent local crime by reducing the lawn maintenance gangs!

there are times when i want to pass someone but can't because my cart is limited to 20 mph.

Criminals break the law everyday. Some are caught and maybe incarcerated or fined.
They still continue to break the law. I don't think fining someone for speeding will stop them from speeding.
Also, The Villages golf garages will up your speed to 24.5 if you sign a waiver.

We were told not to mess with the governor on the cart speedometer as it would invalidate the warranty on the cart if we got ticketed for speeding, could cause problems with insurance coverage as a result, not to mention the legal issues if you actually hit someone or get into an accident at that speed. I'll just putter along at 20 mph and let the speed-demons have their fun!!

Why would you say that.
If I safely pass you, it's because I am not letting you dictate my speed. I am more active now than ever and I did not move here to slow down. Part of the social compact that is signed by us by virtual of living among people is that we agree to the "rule of law" - no man is an island or a government unto himself. So, in this case, it is NOT a good idea to speed, pass, or drive in ANY manner that endangers any OTHER driver on the common, (paid for by all of society) roads.

Yes, by all means let's catch those criminals and lowlife retirees who have the audacity to drive their cart at 20.1 mph They should get 10-20 at a max security prison at hard labor and bread and water rations. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I believe all the carts sold by TV Golf Cars have the Striker Speedometer installed and Villages Discount Golf Cars has a speedometers also, but I believe theirs works off of GPS. When I purchased my cart in 2011 new from TV they were not offering a speedometer, I had them install a Stryker a couple of years later. It has a lot of functions. I believe their price is $150 or you can find them on Amazon for $120.

There is a reason for the 20mph limit - the brakes, suspension etc of a golf cart is not designed to be safe at speeds faster than this.
They are safe at 20mph but not 21? At what speed do they disintegrate?

I’ve found if I slow down while they are passing they can get by faster, and not cause an accident.
I’ve also noticed there are more than a few folks cruising along at 16mph looking at the sights, but as soon as someone pulls out to go around them they will speed up to the max their cart goes to make it harder to be passed. That could cause an accident.
If you aren’t in a hurry, and want to cruise along at your speed, go ahead. Let people pass you. I’m telling you it’s very freeing to let them go.

Actually they were designed to 12 MPH and modified to go faster with no safety modifications other than speed them up.

It’s not so much the speed that is dangerous, it’s the passing in an unsafe manner. If you feel the need for speed in you golf cart (really? Hahaha) , do it when the path is empty, and you have no one to pass. If your in a big hurry to get somewhere, I suggest your car or motorcycle on the road. Of course if it’s a true emergency (not just that you forgot your dentures) then exercise great caution when you pass anyone.

Are you out of work, verify surviving, have no saving, no means to make money, and not old enough for SS? Not stretch for some people.
So you go to the supermarket without a mask, and walk up to the customer service desk and ask them for a mask. They'll GIVE you one. Publix does it, Winn Dixie does it, Walmart has masks at the entry most of the time. The pet supply store in the town square in Sumter Landing has them at the entry.
You can also make a mask with a t-shirt or old rag, or you can use a folded bandana. You can also use a sanitary napkin, which many places now provide free in their rest rooms.
"Too poor" to possess a mask is not even a bad excuse. It's a stupid excuse easily debunked.

The golf cars have a fairly high center of gravity which increases the risk of operating them on hill banks or operating them at speeds above what they were designed for.

Happens to us all the time, ALL the time. Drive faster than you would ever think a golf cart can go .... on the trail toward LS square, past AP golf course, and the trail splits, had someone who almost overturned their cart and OURS trying to beat us to the trail split..... then all 6 carts, including the "crazy race driver" we all stopped together waiting to make the left hand turn to the square ! Worth the death defying maneuver and speed ! Also was alone in the cart last summer, going to Walmart, doing 22. Guy came around me and screamed something (?) shaking his fist. I paid no attention and really could not hear (gas carts) but on he went. Imagine how shocked (and actually a little frightened) I was when I got to Walmart, parked, was walking toward store and he came right up to me screaming how I was going to cause an accident "and get someone killed if you always drive that slow"..... continued to curse and scream that people who "do not drive at least 25 mph are a danger to everyone". I was so startled to think he had sped all that way, passing me before the tunnel, and then would wait in the parking lot until I got there and parked ! There were people around, but even so, very frightening. I was going exactly 21 mph, which I find MANY people find completely unacceptable ! Our cart's top speed is only 26, but we seldom ever "floor" it, usually 21, 22 is fine for us. The man did NOT appear to be drunk ! Just a screaming, very nasty, intimidating, man who was in a hurry, but had time to wait until I arrived ?????

Let's see if I got this straight.
This post is complaining that someone (illegally) driving more than 22 mph in their cart passed you while you were (illegally) going 22. But it's OK because your cart that can (illegally) go 26 is only being (illegally) driven 21-22.

Probably millions of miles of golf cart travel here every year and very rare to see or hear of a serious golf cart accident. Poking around way under the speed limit is probably just as dangerous as moving a little quicker. I think we are doing really well around here.

Up until about a year ago, the Sumter County Sheriff was a regular presence on Morse Blvd. (North of 466), where cars and carts drive at ridiculous speeds. I travel this stretch of Morse daily to our mail station, and on some days, I feel like I am risking my life. In the past year, I don't believe I have seen even one Sheriff's car out there with radar. They have simply stopped. Our sheriff's department has a LOT of deputies and a LOT of nice new cars. I wonder why they are no longer enforcing the traffic laws on Morse Blvd.

The carts that are not street legal are supposed to be topped at 21 mph. What I mean is, when we bought ours, and chose not to have it street legal, at this point, it was programmed such that it would not go more than 21mph. I personally think street legal ones shouldn't be allowed on the golf cart paths, but then the street folks would be mad because they are going under 35 mph, I guess. Back before we got our golf cart (a few months before Covid), we were hearing that 'golf cart police' were out on the paths, and stopping and ticketing anyone going even a little bit over 21 mph. I agree with you totally. Wonder if those folks are actual homeowners, or, younger family members, renters, etc that choose to ignore the rules.
