Nearly two dozen nursing home residents in Norway died within days of receiving their first stick with the COVID-19 vaccine, triggering a warning from health officials for sick patients over the age of 80 years old. The Norwegian Medicines Agency in a press release on Friday revealed 23 patients died shortly after being stuck with the Pfizer/BioNTech shot for coronavirus. Of those deaths, 13 have been autopsied, with results suggesting that common side effects from the vaccine likely caused the high death toll.
Sigurd Hortemo, chief physician at the Norwegian Medicines Agency, said that typical reactions to the vaccine — like fever and nausea — “may have contributed to the fatal outcome in some frail patients.” Pfizer and BioNTech are working with the Norwegian regulator to investigate the deaths. Norway’s health officials in wake of the deaths have warned the shot may be too risky for those who are suffering from severe underlying conditions and are over the age of 80.
“For those with the most severe frailty, even relatively mild vaccine side effects can have serious consequences,” the Norwegian Institute of Public Health said, according to Bloomberg. “For those who have a very short remaining life span anyway, the benefit of the vaccine may be marginal or irrelevant.” The agency emphasized the recommendation does not mean younger, healthier people should avoid being vaccinated.

Those patients were running out of money anyway.. you can still get Covid19 for up to 14 days after the vaccine.
These were also Terminally ill patients at different nursing homes!

This information from OP is good to know, I will add it to my calculus of risk vs reward for the Pfizer vaccine.
As for the term “terminally ill” we are all going to die (unless you are like Elijah and taken up in a chariot of fire).
The vaccine seems to have shortened whatever time the Norwegian nursing home patients would have had. I guess no one in the trials group was quite so frail.

These majority of these patients were terminal in the first place.
A common cold would probably have put them over the edge as well.
There will undoubtably be other isolated incidents such as this as more becomes known about after effects for some medical groups.
Would not have put me off having the Pfizer/BioNTec vaccine.
Just greatful to have had it.

New drugs/vaccines are generally tested on people age 18-75 on the first go-around. Also not in pregnant women. You want to understand the safety profile in healthy adults before testing the drug/vaccine in more vulnerable populations. We haven't had the luxury of doing the latter yet, but more studies are in the pipeline.

Good point. Maybe some people who weren't represented in original trials should wait until more tests have been done.

So there have been over 7000 adverse reactions to the vaccine and 66 deaths from it in the UK. Tell me again why anyone would take this vaccine when there are simple treatments available like Hydroxochloroquine, Vitamin C, Arethromyacin and Zinc without any dangerous or life threatening side effects?

And how many healthy people did you just scare the heck out of who probably will now not get the vaccine and quests what, some of those people may get sick from the virus and die. Smart thinking!

Interesting no one says they were about to die when people in nursing homes here died. When someone 104 is said to have died of covid, I have a hard time believing all of these statistics. I know people who had a test scheduled, didn't go & got a phone call, followed by a letter confirming they were positive. Also, tests done on a goat, a pawpaw, a kiwi & coke were positive. No one is dying of the flu, car accidents, heart attacks. Let's fun the numbers up & scare people. Why are healthy people supposed to wear masks? Make no sense.

Dont' Panic on this news - these patients were extremely close to death when given the vaccine - very frail and at the end of life. It was silly to give them the vaccine in the first place.

Can side effects be more pronounced in people who are at higher risk of severe COVID-19 disease—i.e., people who are older, have comorbidities, etc.?
No—in fact, vaccine side effects have been less frequent and severe in adults older than 55 years in the vaccine trials.
Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine | FDA (https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine)
The most commonly reported side effects, which typically lasted several days, were pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, and fever. Of note, more people experienced these side effects after the second dose than after the first dose, so it is important for vaccination providers and recipients to expect that there may be some side effects after either dose, but even more so after the second dose.
Might not be accurate but I heard second hand that if you had covid before the side effects may be worse. Maybe something to ask your doctor about if it applies to you.

I believe most of the people that have passed having COVID, really passed as a result of underlying conditions in the majority of cases. COVID simply aided in pushing the envelope of their problem(s) resulting in their deaths. That is to say, if someone has a heart condition or COPD, or anemia, or cancer, or some other serious condition(S) COVAD just makes it more difficult to survive the underlying issue. So, what did the individual really die of? COVID or the long term issue?

Having read all of Moderna's and Pfizers data I could find, my rule of thumb is this:
- After the first shot, there is very little protection against contracting COVID19 during the first two weeks.
- Protection increases from zero to 50 - 90 % (depending on sources and statistics) during weeks 2 to 4.
- Protection goes to 95% by the end of week 6 assuming you get a booster shot at week 4
-- Positive effect on severity (including death) starts immediately after the first shot and goes to virtually 100% at the end of week 4 or so.
- Continuing effectiveness after 6 weeks unknown. Most claim 12 months minimum.
I wish there were a single source to summarize this for each vaccine. Instead, I sourced this from articles too laborious to list. Sorry.
I have dealt with data analysis and synthesis most of my (non-medical) career, but I find that many people have their own (strong) opinions about this anyway, so I'm just putting this out there. Hope someone finds it helpful.

The source I am citing here is the BMJ. The BMJ is among the most respected medical journals in the world, along with NEJM, The Lancet, JAMA, and the Annals of Internal Medicine.
The BMJ is open to peer review which means the work is subjected to the scrutiny of other experts in the field to check its validity and evaluate its suitability for publication. (The article I am linking was published on January 15, 2021.)
While this BMJ article acknowledges the findings, it states, "Norwegian authorities have prioritised the immunisation of residents in nursing homes, most of whom are very elderly with underlying conditions and some of whom are terminally ill."
The Norwegian Medical Agency (NoMA) is quoted in the article saying that common adverse reactions of mRNA vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhoea, may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients.
(And, yes, I was using my British spelling above because my source is British.)
The BMJ article goes on to clarify what has happened and is happening. I hope you will read this article from the BMJ which is not very long and brings things into perspective.

PS: Sadly. . .actually, not just sadly but tragically, you are going to hear things from those who truly wish to see failure of the new dedication to prioritize getting the vaccine really rolling. You will hear things with the agenda of undermining common sense.

The amount suggested, 100,000mg, is about 1 million times the possibly unsafe amount of vitamin D. A doctor *MIGHT* prescribe that much but let that guidance come from your doctor!
See this page (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-much-vitamin-d-is-too-much#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2) for more information on safe and unsafe dosing.
The math:
1mg = 1000mcg
1mcg = 40 IU
4,000 IU /day = possibly unsafe level
100,000mg = 100,000,000mcg = 4,000,000,000 IU = 4,000 IU * 1,000,000

Norway has socialized medicine
Yes, they do. But trying to understand how that is connected to the major drug manufactures like Moderna, Pfizer, J&J, etc. and side effects ? Perhaps it's just a side comment on the subject. Traveled some in France, Canada, been to Norway, Sweden, and Finland; as I understood from locals they all have "socialized" medicine (the term is thrown around a lot but is very different in different countries, perhaps some here in the V's on this board are from Scandinavian countries and could shed more light than I on how the system would be linked to drug manufacturing or testing or side effects. I do think (unintended) side effects are to be expected.... some will probably be tragic (anyone old enough to remember the initial relief, and then the tragedies, associated with the polio vaccine ? I remember my parents, both of whom had excellent and extensive educations so were in a good position to gather information and make decisions, yet they agonized for months about giving permission for the school to give me the ("sugar cube") dose ! So far, Norway is the only country to release such incidents as these, as we go on there will almost surely be others... the long march forward always has setbacks !

>> 400,000 deaths in the US from covid<<
or is it 400,000 deaths in the US with covid symptoms?
If someone dies of a heart attack and had a common cold, do we say the cold caused it?
and, 66 deaths after being vaccinated, who died as a direct result of the vaccine? Or who would have died anyway, and the vaccine just gave them a couple more symptoms to tip them over the edge a few days sooner?
During the trial period, 2 people died. One had a heart attack 2 months after being vaccinated (in other words - he would've had that heart attack anyway, the vaccine wasn't close enough to date to have any effect on it at all). The other died of complications from artheriosclerosis - which would have had to be killing them before they were ever vaccinated.
Regarding the article itself: correlation does not equal causation. If you do a search you can find some actual scientific journals that have this situation covered. Supposedly it can take up to three months to find out why those people died. 13 of them have already been investigated and they don't believe the vaccine was, itself, the cause of death. These were sick people in end-of-life care. It's thought that the typical, common, mundane side effects of the vaccine (general malaise, coughing, a low fever) might have tipped these people from "dead within the next month" to "dead within the next day."
Meanwhile, since the OP chose to disobey copyright law - the source of the OP's post is this:

Don't disagree with you at all, but I think it might be because of the scarcity of the treatments you mentioned, coupled with the reluctance of doctors to prescribe them, again possibly because so few doctors have knowledge of them or experience prescribing them, etc. It seems risky right now even counting on common people having access to those (yes, I realize high profile individuals, athletes, entertainers, politicians and wealthy people have access because they are able to travel to medical centers and locations with such treatments and experienced doctors in the field of treatment). No knowledge, but my guess would be we do not have that at the Villages hospitals. Perhaps those in the medical field who actually work there will be able to give us more information on what is actually on hand and available for treatment here ? I have not heard directly from anyone who has had the virus here what treatments they were given.

Thanks for in depth information. Sadly panic is a common reaction. Like the old game of telephone each time a story is told it changes. I heard of the deaths in Norway. I did not know which vaccine it was or age of the patients.
So much of the information we have on many things is spun or invalid. Even the number of cases. We have yet to do a valid random test. People who have covid but die from a heart attack are recorded as dying from covid.
What we are told is a vaccine shortage, unplanned, improperly planned, administrated etc
I wonder if the real reason is to properly investigate what happened in Norway.

So, don't listen to the numbers if you don't want to. I don't. Do you see how our healthcare system is being stressed? Rather than listening to the skewed numbers and stats, what I do make note of is the fact that EMTs can not unload their patients for up to 8 hours or more because there is "no room at the inn". EMTs are having to make life and death decisions as to who they transport to hospitals. If the patient looks like they won't make it, they do not transport. Have you seen those mobile morgues outside of hospitals that are refrigerated trucks to hold the bodies because the morgues have no room?
OPEN YOUR EYES and see what is going on in our country. I can not believe this is our United States. It is more like a third world country and that is scary as hell. Luckily, here in The Villages, we are not seeing those horrific circumstances. We are mostly seniors who do follow guidelines and have kept our community hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. Not so in other parts of our country. Sad but true.

Thank you for the compilation of data. I had no idea the Moderna vaccine efficacy can reach as much as 90% after the first shot. That's comforting.

In the US the CDC is following up on all people who got the shot to see how they react so we will learn more as time passes. It is a voluntary sign up and you get the info when you get the shot. V Save. V-safe After Vaccination Health Checker | CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/vsafe.html)
I got no such info when I got my shot.

Are you an MD? Should be telling people to take Vitamin D at a toxic level.

Because the vaccines are 95% effective and the snake oil you just mentioned is useless?

Add 5000 mg vitamin d . Increase to 100,000 for 5 days if you get it . Been there. # of deaths reported are way over reality. You die in a car crash but tested positive for COVID . Cause of death is COVID. Ridiculous

Addendum: Please always consider your sources of information -- and when passing the information along, please cite the source. Additionally, it is too often necessary to back-source any source to determine its legitimacy and/or its agenda.

Excellent post!!!

I received my COVID immunization last week, NO ONE asked if I want to be contacted by CDC or anyone else for that matter, to see how I am and any side effects. Where are you getting your “information” from?
If you look at the VIS (https://www.modernatx.com/covid19vaccine-eua/eua-fact-sheet-recipients.pdf) [vaccine information sheet] that you were given when you got the shot, the information about the totally voluntary CDC program is included.
You may also be given an option to enroll in v-safe. V-safe is a new voluntary smartphone-based tool that uses text messaging and web surveys to check in with people who have been vaccinated to identify potential side effects after COVID-19 vaccination. V-safe asks questions that help CDC monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines. V-safe also provides second-dose reminders if needed and live telephone follow-up by CDC if participants report a significant health impact following COVID-19 vaccination. For more information on how to sign up, visit:

In a typical week there are about 400 deaths in nursing homes in Norway (https://www.bmj.com/content/bmj/372/bmj.n149.full.pdf). Not a Covid week, but a typical week.
More than 20 000 doses of the vaccine have been administered over the past few weeks in Norway and around
400 deaths normally occur among care home residents every week.
I don't know how many nursing home residents received a vaccine in the several days before their deaths, but the important question is Did vaccination lead to an increase in deaths? Several years ago there was a huge misinformation machine pushing that infant immunizations, especially DPT, caused SIDS, sudden infant death. This misunderstanding of data was pushed by a parent group named "Dissatisfied Parents Together" [see the DPT in their name?]
Sadly SIDS is a real disease where seemingly healthy infants die in their sleep with an age range up to 6 months. As almost all infants get three DPT shots in their first six months, of course some die the day before they are scheduled for their shots, some die the day of their shot, some the next day. You will NEVER convince the parent whose infant died after getting a shot that the shot was not a cause. But the data is that SIDS death rates are no different before versus after a shot. Infants die of SIDS. Old people die of old age related illness. Until you have data showing that the death rate increased after the shots, you have nothing. The BMJ article did not include any analysis of this important data. Show me the death rate of residents of nursing homes in the 14 days before the shot vs 14 days following.

Was I supposed to receive a Vaccine Information Sheet? I did not. All I got was a card with my appointment for my second shot and the name and Lot # of the Moderna vaccine.
