Has anyone NOT received this $600 stimulus check? I have not and wondered if maybe I'm not going to get one. I did and was eligible for the first $1200 stimulus (although it was later than most) and since it's based on the same year's taxes don't know why I wouldn't be for this one. Just wondering if it's just later than most or not coming at all.

January 15 was the last day they were issuing checks. If you got a $1200 check in 2020 and your finances didn't change, you were eligible this time.
Direct deposits went in way before the 15th.
The mail has been pretty jammed up but they are finally catching up. If you don't get it soon, something happened to it.

If you owed money on your last return, it'll be a check mailed to you.
If you got a refund or had no return, it was deposited to your bank account already.
I'm still waiting too.

When we received our $2400 stimulus check last spring, it was direct deposited. Then last week I kept looking at my checking account, and nothing. I went to the mail box and there was a government check for $1200, they work in mysterious ways.

If you don't get a check or direct deposit when you do your taxes this year you can get it as a refund. There is a form and line to do it. When looking at my TurboTax program for this year that was one of the "forms" you can calculate amount due even if it is only a partial amount.

This may be controversial, but I assume most of us here in TV don't need handouts. I'm shocked the checks go to anyone who made less than $75,000 Wow I would think one should apply for stimulus if they REALLY NEED it. But just my take on it.

You will probably be receiving it in the form of an EIPCard. Got mine yesterday. You can then transfer the $600 to another account or use the card.

We received the full first stimulus check last year. On Jan 4th there was a mysterious treasury check deposited. The IRS.gov website said this was our 2nd stimulus check. Although it was much smaller than the $600/person.

Wow - I didn’t receive a check last time and I didn’t receive one this time geez —- why does it seem like everyone is getting one?
No, i am far from well-off. I live pretty much month to month .... but proud to say - I can take care of myself.
Sheezzz and I could really use a couch. The only furniture in my living room is a chair and a TV table - you know - the kind we used to use to eat our TV dinners from. Lucky you - you can buy yourself a new couch! Covid is great! for you!! For you - hope the complaining stops.

My brother works for the post office in Vermont. They are severely understaffed. The post office was hemorrhaging money. They took cost cutting measures. The greatest operating expense is labor. USPS mail has to be hand sorted to go into boxes or in his case be delivered by hand to some very rural locations. With many folks moving out of cities and into rural areas, this is to be expected. Just look at the growth in The Villages. They have to hire workers for all those new distribution centers. Further, just because the volume of mail has decreased due to paperless billing, etc., does not mean the number of PO Boxes has decreased. You still get junk mail and even this has to be hand sorted. This takes time.

As of today no check or direct deposit. If you go online to the IRS website it will show you how you get your money. In my case, all it states is "not enough information". At this point, you are told to file form 1040-SR to claim your money. The form is three pages long. They also ask you to E-FILE. Have no idea what is going on here. Been living at the same address for over 30 years.

The new 2021 stimulus is based on your 2019 tax return. Receiving the 2020 stimulus depended on when you filled out your 2019 tax return. I wait to do my taxes so when the 2020 stimulus went out my 2019 taxes were not completed yet. They had to use my 2018 tax return numbers which made me eligible to receive the stimulus. This time I will not be eligible for the stimulus because they lowered the income numbers required to receive the stimulus check. My first stimulus money came to me in form of a debit card. The gov. sends out debit cards if they do not have your account info.

Congrats to all you folks getting $$$$ - lucky you! What will you use your money for? Toward a new golf cart? new golf clubs? a few fancy meals + wine? new furniture? new light fixtures? landscaping? a paver driveway? a 70” TV?
I don’t know - I have never been too keen on blanket money handouts - but I do believe that people who lost their jobs, who had their business shut down, who had to quit their jobs to take care of and educate their children, who had expenses due to suffering from Covid - probably really deserve it. They, in fact probably deserve more than $600.
I don’t know - maybe it is just me.
Nope - as I said before - I am not ‘well off’ - I manage - and I have never received a stimulus check (and, no, I have never done stock market stuff - so must have been due to my income in 2018 - prior to retirement). I am just thankful to have a roof over my head and glad to live here in The Villages.
I have to be honest, tho - if I did get $$ - I would probably spend it on something frivolous for myself, too.
Seriously, you should realize how truly fortunate the vast majority you all are.....

We received the first round of stimulus money in the form of checks, mailed to us individually. This time it was a bank issued Visa debit card in both our names. WATCH YOUR MAILBOX and don't throw it out thinking it's junk mail. BTW, very easy to transfer the funds from the debit card directly into your savings or checking account. Still not sure why they even think we need this money, we use it to overtip and donate to charities who need it more than we do.

Funny, Throw around the word "need". I really wonder how many of us really "need" the "stimulus". I don't but I guess I can "stimulate" a high end golf club manufacturer with a new set of clubs. Sounds pretty stupid to me.

What makes you think we keep the money?
Residents in The Villages are known for generously gifting money to charities and worthy causes
We give half of our stimulus money to the Salvation Army, a quarter to our church that supports needy children...and then we hire some local worker that needs money to live on to do something around the yard (that we could easily have done ourselves).

I called the IRS since we have not received our checks. Bottom line if you did not get a refund on your 2019 tax return they mailed you a check. If, like us, you have moved since that return was filed the post office will not forward government checks, and returns them to the IRS. You can claim the $600.00 each as a tax credit on your 2020 tax return. And No, you can’t change your address with the IRS now in case there s an other stimulus check. They have shut that down online and by phone. They will update it for you based on your 2020 return, or the representative thought that you may go to an IRS office and change your address in person. That may be up to the local office. I take all of this with caution because of poor reliability of past information from the IRS phone representatives. Good luck.

1200 direct deposit,600 was placed on my emerald HR block since having HR block processed our 2019 taxes. Get this this , H R then charged service charges as high as $35 to receive our funds when processing using a teller at a bank. Then charging $1.50 to get cash from atm. Crazy!

I just checked the IRS went and found this was posted yesterday.
“If Get My Payment or your Notice 1444 or 1444-B shows your payment was issued as a direct deposit more than 5 days after the payment date, your first step is to check with your bank and make sure they didn’t receive a deposit. Do not check with your bank prior to 5 days because they may not have any information.
You should only request a payment trace to track your payment if you received Notice 1444 or Notice 1444-B or if Get My Payment shows your payment was issued and you have not received it within the timeframes below. IRS assistors cannot initiate a payment trace unless it has been:
5 days since the deposit date and the bank says it hasn’t received the payment
4 weeks since the payment was mailed by check to a standard address for the first EIP; after February 24, 2021 for the second EIP
6 weeks since the payment was mailed, and you have a forwarding address on file with the local post office for the first EIP; March 10, 2021 for the second EIP
9 weeks since the payment was mailed, .... Do not request a payment trace to determine if you were eligible for a payment or to confirm the amount of payment you should have received.
How we process your claim
We’ll process your claim for a missing payment in one of two ways:
If the check was not cashed, we will reverse your payment and notify you. If you find the original check, you must return it as soon as possible. You will need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 return to receive credit, if eligible.
If the check was cashed, the Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service will send you a claim package that includes a copy of the cashed check. Follow the instructions. The Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service will review your claim and the signature on the canceled check before determining whether the payment can be reversed. If reversed, you will need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 return, if eligible.
Note: If you are filing your 2020 tax return before your trace is complete, do not include the payment amount on line 16 or 19 of the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet. You may receive a notice saying your Recovery Rebate Credit was changed, but an adjustment will be made after the trace is complete and it is determined your payment has not been cashed. You will not need to take any additional action to receive the credit.
To start a payment trace:
Call us at 800-919-9835
Mail or fax a completed Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund PDF.
Reminder: DO NOT request a trace prior to the timeframes above. IRS assistors cannot start a trace prior to those timeframes.
To complete the Form 3911:
Write “EIP1” or “EIP2” on the top of the form to identify which payment you want to trace.
Complete the form answering all refund questions as they relate to your EIP
When completing item 7 under Section 1:
Check the box for “Individual” as the Type of return
Enter “2020” as the Tax Period
Do not write anything for the Date Filed
Sign the form. If you file married filing joint, both spouses must sign the form.
You will generally receive a response 6 weeks after we receive your request for a payment trace, but there may be delays due to limited staffing. Get up-to-date status on affected IRS operations and services. Do not mail Form 3911 if you have already requested a trace by phone.
If you mail or fax the form prior to the timeframes above, your request will not be processed until those timeframes are met.”

I received the last one via direct deposit. This time I checked online and it said the check was mailed January 5th. I have not received it and I doubt the mail is running behind that much. No idea why they would switch to paper checks. Direct deposit would seem much safer.

I believe the first stimulus check was based on 2018 returns and the second was based on 2019.
So if you received a first stimulus check based on your 2018 return and your income went up in 2019, you could see a reduced or no stimulus payment.
I believe that's correct?

We have our mail forwarded. The government won't allow stimulus checks to be forwarded (as do some banks), therefore we have to ask for the deduction on our taxes.

You are not in this boat alone. We were in Illinois for the holidays and mailed Christmas cards first class to friends in The Villages on December 10. They got them on different dates after January 7, 2021. We recently received an email from Bank of America that due to slow USPS mail we could receive our “hard copy” statement late. Although I get a paper monthly statement I also get an on-line statement and pay electronically. Bottom line the USPS has become the pony express again. According to some reports, it’s a matter of significant funding cuts to USPS and also the coronavirus.

Under that it states - They don't have enough information OR I'm not eligible. That's Crazy since nothing has changed.

This may be controversial, but I assume most of us here in TV don't need handouts. I'm shocked the checks go to anyone who made less than $75,000 Wow I would think one should apply for stimulus if they REALLY NEED it. But just my take on it.
I agree with you 100 %...... that’s why my wife and I donated our ENTIRE $2400 equally between two local charities...
We plan on doing the same with this round of funds....
So, if you truly believe in what you say then I would encourage you to do what we have done......:)

We have our mail forwarded. The government won't allow stimulus checks to be forwarded (as do some banks), therefore we have to ask for the deduction on our taxes.
Ugh. I think this will happen again with the next payment as it is supposed to be a debit card.
Wait - what????
Is this true?

If you don't have direct deposit, you will be much delayed. Also, has your address (mailing) changed in the last 6-12 months?

Also, if you failed to file 2020 income tax, you may not get it

Has anyone NOT received this $600 stimulus check? I have not and wondered if maybe I'm not going to get one. I did and was eligible for the first $1200 stimulus (although it was later than most) and since it's based on the same year's taxes don't know why I wouldn't be for this one. Just wondering if it's just later than most or not coming at all.
Got ours weeks ago

Wife and I both received the first stimulus checks via direct deposit last year. Tax returns are filed jointly. Wife received 2nd stimulus as a check in the mail on January 6th. No check/deposit for me yet. No information available on the IRS website. Nothing I can do but watch and wait. Cannot come up with a reason why both payments have not been received unless mine was lost in the mail.

Thanks for posting the IRS information about filing for missing checks. Our checks were mailed January 6, but since we are here for only six months and have a temporary forwarding on our mail we were not sure they would forward these checks. When they announced there would be a second stimulus payment, we tried to get on the Get My Payment site to add our bank information and prevent a problem with mailing. The site did not open back up until the same day our checks were mailed and prevented us from making the change. The mail we get that is forwarded has typically taken 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. The Post Office is undermanned due to Covid and budget cuts, as well as moth-balling a great number of sorting machines. It is nice to know that we are not the only ones trying to figure this out.

To you and all that donate it to needy causes :bigbow: :bigbow: I'm Canadian so those checks don't apply to me. In Canada it's very much a needs basis for receiving Covid help.

The multiplier effect "stimulates" the economy, or such is the theory anyway.

It's assume that if you don't "need" the money you'll spend it. Crazy as it may sound, spending money stimulates the economy. Go figure, who knew!
If you "need" the money - well there it is, pretty darned handy.
Either way, the economy gets stimulated, a bill or two that might not have been paid otherwise will get paid, everyone is happy.
Everyone's happy, except for people who just can't stand it when someone else gets to pay a bill or spend some money.

I'm not giving it back donating it charity We don't deserve this stimulus payment...What loss have we endured just freedom to socialize were retired on fixed income for the most part
Due to social and travel restrictions our monthly expenses have dropped by 1/3 . YA i hate what's going on but Others need this stimulus far more than retirees here in the bubble

That's pretty much the point. If you don't NEED it - then SPEND it. That's why you have it. So you can spend it. Spending it means someone is getting paid, by you, for whatever. It's getting people working. It's providing someone with a much-needed paycheck. Spend it on something you have been putting off because of the pandemic. Get your nails done. Pick up some curb-side dinner at a restaurant that you haven't been to in awhile. Hire a guy to pressure-wash your house.
If you do need it - use it!
Just don't bank it. Banking it defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.

That's such a strange thing to say.
I can still get a cheeseburger for a buck at McDonald's. It's worth the exact same cheeseburger now as it was worth last year.
My club dues are the same as they were last year too. The value of the club hasn't changed one bit - and therefore the value of the cost of the dues has also not changed one bit.
My stock dividend has gone up around 20 cents, but that's only because my stock had the last dividend buy more stock, so the whole package is worth a few cents more. I'd call that a wash. The overall value per share is pretty much steady for the past year.
My husband's pension check is exactly what it was a year ago, and we can buy exactly the same groceries with it as we could last year. Our utility bill went up somewhat. But our useage has gone down, netting in an increase that I can pay out of the change stuck under the seat of my car.

Not crazy at all. It’s a geometric progression with the marginal propensity to consume, MPC. Even if you save the stimulus and put it in the bank, the bank will lend it to someone who will spend it based on the banks reserve requirements.
The sum of that geometric series, K is the multiplier K = 1/(1 - MPC) The actual formula is similar but more complicated as the MPC differs between people.
In words if the MPC is .9 then the first person spends .9 x $600=$540 which becomes income to that second person who spends .9 x $540=$486 and so on. Then the extra Gross Domestic Product GDP=$540 + $486+......

I was being facetious. I didn't know the actual formula but yeah I knew that spending = stimulating the economy.

I don't understand why retirees are getting stimulus checks. If you are working and lost a job, fine. If you are retired and getting your benefits, why are you getting checks from the government. You weren't affected by Covid-19. This is why our country will be in the toilet by the end of the year.

When that event occurs it's to stimulate the use of 100's rolls of toilet paper everyone has in the hall closets

Why shouldn't they? They are paying Federal taxes on their social security and pension checks.

I didn’t get mine but that is because I changed banks before knowing we were getting another check. Hopefully like they said we can claim it on our taxes
